Live everyday like it’s the first or last. Both have the same meaning. Each day is a gift so don’t take it for granted. Treasure and make each day the best it can possibly be. The past is already gone, the future unknown, so the most important is the present moment. It doesn’t mean you forget the past or not plan for the future, it means the journey may be more important than the destination.
One time I had a shroom trip and I ad the clearest realization and sensation as if my entire life I was living on auto pilot and following a narrow path created by the walls of social norms. I had felt as if I was just born and it's my first day on Earth. The very next day I started on projects that I had told myself I would get to one day and in 6 months I accomplished more than I thought I could do in years.
"If today were the last day of my life, would I want to do what I'm about to do today?" It's my last day. Whatever work I have to do won't bear fruition today, as it will take more than one day. I might as well be lazy and do nothing. "If today were the first day of my life, would I want to do what I'm about to do today?" Hmm, I was about to procrastinate on all my work and waste my time. Since this is my first day, and I have a lot of time ahead, I might as well take it chill and not do anything today. I can do it tomorrow.
Exactly!! It's hilarious how she invents a new way to think simply because she clearly didn't understand the original proposal. Nothing good ever bears immediate fruit, so either we confront our limited lives, and become happy with the effort itself. The latter, always leads to procrastination. I have unlimited time, no one died shortly after their first day!! I have time to putts around. Leading us towards unfulfilling lives.
This happens when you think for yourself instead of being prepared to swallow all the cliche's everyone else is throwing at you from all directions. Live your life as you see fit not how you're told to.... And never go to work if possible LOL.
Actually she took wrong this statement of Steve job living like last day, this statement actually means stop wasting your time and only do important work, when you realize that any day can be your last day,you becomes so energetic and with full of joy,you feel adventure, you live every moment of live, your focus is only on present
This is the only Ted Talk I’ve really connected with. It was very powerful and beautiful. I’ve been going through a lot of anxiety lately, I’m about to go through a huge change in my life (graduating college :) ) I’ve been freaking out the in the first couple days of my last semester. I was scared and angry that I might never seen my friends again, that the pandemic took away so much time from me, that Im just going to end up working some mundane job while I reminisce about the best years being behind me. But your speech showed me that I have a future, I have a life to live. I’ve had a lot of pain and problems due to my past but after hearing friends story I feel so inspired. If she can overcome the dark coulds so can I. Bless you Leana and thank you for the talk, I’m going to start living each day like it’s my first!
The expression only means "Enjoy each day and don't miss an opportunity to do something great." In other words "Don't be afraid to do something that you would finally do, if you only had a day left to live." Nobody actually lives that way 100%. Planning for short term as well as long term things is part of every persons daily life. The old saying is not meant to take so literally.
After all, it's all about possibilities and hope. Living as if it is the last day can shatter hope and render it meaningless for us to keep going authentically. Really grateful for reminding us of this.
We get so numb in life from “doing the necessary” and “juggling/coping with the stresses”! This presentation is incredible and definitely “food for thought”. Let each of us live it’s message and share it with others!
Thank you so much for your perspective. I have been trying to live my life as if its my last day and it really is very depressing, nothing on the agenda seems meaningful enough. It creates a terrible sense of dis satisfaction......in everything. So thanks so much. You ve helped me.
She doesn’t get it.... this is the type of people who take everything literally. This is a Figure of speech . Live each day like it’s your last means PUT YOUR HEART AT WHATEVER YOU DO.
I know it may sound silly but the game Red Dead Redemption 2 is one of the most incredible games made in that it puts you in the boots of someone going through that very example of existential clarity. You play as a character who hates themself and and goes along with the morally ambiguous tasks they’ve lived their whole life doing. However, when you learn about that expiration date you get a character who sees the world clearly and realizes they can redeem themself and their actions
She doesn’t get it.... this is the type of people who take everything literally. This is a METAPHOR. Live each day like it’s your last means PUT YOUR HEART AT WHATEVER YOU DO.

Live Each Day As If It Were Your Last means that don't waste your time [there is only limited time, you will not waste your time for peoples sh*t ], when you know its your last day, there will be no reason to follow your heart, there is no obstacle to follow your heart. Noise of others' opinions will not change you. you will get the courage to follow your heart.
I think this is a great talk.....this hit home with me, I was going to comment about the fact most people have to work, do humdrum tasks....such is life - this has given me a different perspective on those. I try to live every day happily!
Even in a humdrum job paying a basic wage, there are always opportunities to see the best in people. And a good attitude can help you move on up the ladder maybe.
I completely agree, it's not feasible. You wouldn't want to do work or all the things you need to do. You can't have adventure and do fun things everyday. I think the better version is imagine it's the first day.
Beautiful outstanding idea! Anything that is the beginning, is surely going to be much more exciting than. ...The last! Wonderful lady for giving out a life changing thought! Love it!
@@Leanadelle Yes, thankyou. You voiced my feelings. I felt like everywhere I turned people were cautioning "Live as if it's your last" and it only made me feel anxiety and discontentment. Your positive approach suits me, and thank you for sharing the experience of your dear friend.

Very inspiring video ! Regardless of our circumstances or situation in life, the "attitude of gratitude " enhances optimism ! last or first, neither is to be taken too literally! its about having clarity about the preciousness and purpose of life, or keeping fresh eyes and being curious...good point in both. however, i dont think neither is actually enough for awakening to clarity. sorry to say this, but i think its a bit too dramatic , her “maxing out credit cards , flirting with french guys”. good way to make a speech, but sincerely mean it? of cos last stage cancer patient arent able to accomplish any big things, same as none of the newborn babies have any idea how to take a step! come on now..
I prefer to live my life as if I was alive. Ah yes, get something done. Now, that project I was going to start last week/last year/forty years ago....

very clever
I read the tittle and said next.
Live each day as if it were your last: lie in a hospital bed and call your relatives.
😂😂
Like me 2 year's ago, you seem not to grasp what that phase means. As for me I fully understand it now.
Can you elaborate?
Can't do anything on my last day because I'd be lying in my death bed unconscious. Can't do anything on my first day because I'd be 100% disabled.
“Now how many of you actually do that each day”
*pans to group of old people*
Tried to live each day as if it was my last. Emergency services now want me to pay for calling them every day and telling them I will die today.
Great TedTalk presentation. Can’t help but laugh that there’s a student in the audience at 13:15 who appears to be multitasking, perhaps studying? Lol
so this is the first day of the rest of my life
Make it the first day of a new life.
yo cuando vivo cada dia como si fuera el ultimo tengo unas ganas y motivacion increible, no comparto lo que decis
If I lived every day as if it was my last, I'd be unemployed within a week, and right within a month.
Less "Live each day like it was your last"
More "Today is the first day of the rest of your life"
Life is short, especially at the end.
i'd like that philosophy ;)
