    I stood backstage at the Golden Gate Park polo field when he performed years ago. We were there to honor the late, great Promoter Bill Graham. Great musician and singer! Cheers from Cav *

    Beautiful poetry. Live the dance that is your own, cuz in the end you dance alone.

    "You were always dancing in an out of view..." That line taught me a lot about the preciousness of friendship.

    My mom passed away 2 weeks ago. Deeply grieved I played this song because it calmed me. I had forgotten some of the lyrics after all these years and after listening about 10 times broke down in tears at the lines, ". . I don't know what happens when people die, cant seem to grasp it hard as I try. . "
    Many blessings to ALL and especially those grieving 💜✌

      @@DonMac I am truly sorry for the loss of your wife, Don. Thank you btw, for your kind words.
      No stranger to grieving here, my youngest daughter at 17 was killed suddenly and tragically and though its almost 20 years later, it's still very painful for her sister and myself.
      I think. . and I've been wrong b4, but only time itself dulls the sharp corners of pain like that.
      May you find peace in your heart Don 🙏✌💜

      @@isapeacekeeper8803 Grief I think has different degrees depending on the loved one that has been lost, like you, my mother also passed away but the loss of a child or partner is on a whole different level that you can only understand after having gone through the awful pain of such an experience, I found making this video tribute for my late wife a help. ua-cam.com/video/CZnQ1GfjELY/v-deo.html

    I first heard this today, although I have lived a long life. As I listened, I felt I could have written the end of almost every line. We know everything about the dancer, and we know really nothing, because we only know what the singer tells us. We are all like blind men describing an elephant from touch, each one telling their truth and missing the mark, but each hitting the mark also. Being men, fallible but striving beyond. I am a poor poet next to Jackson, or not a poet at all,, just play the song again.

    Late for the sky is the best all time album for content and lyrics. for a dancer is Jackson’s greatest song. When I experienced death of a lived one I played it over and over. I bawled like a baby. It was very cathartic. But the tears of grief turned to tears of joy and then a feeling of peace as I better understood the words each time it played! Thank you Jackson Browne!

    Played at my little nephew’s funeral, who was murdered. His father chose the song. Cried my eyes out.

    One of the best videos that I have ever seen! Thanks Don! We saw Jackson (& David Lindley R.I.P.) in Austin (in the early '80s?)--what a night.
    I used to start my day-long seminars on Conscious Dying with this song. I handed out the lyrics and played the song. This video would have been so much more engrossing and impactful. Amazing images, Don! The red drops on the black rose--just brilliant!

    This is an even better song than the more touted "Fountain of Sorrow" from the same album.

    "In the end there is one dance you'll do alone." Gut-wrenching. I love the video you've made. I love that live version only with him on piano and David Lindley on violin, but this original studio one is still the best with Jonie Mitchell and David Crosby on backing vocals (& David Lindley on violin!)

    You've compiled some perfectly beautiful images, thank you. (I believe the line, though, is: "crying is the easier down." Shouldn't put it down for that, though: it's the most natural response and the most healing one (dancing maybe being the second...).)

    • @DonMac
      @DonMac  5 років тому +2

      I'm not saying you're wrong on the lyrics but most sites give it as "Crying as they ease you down" played at half speed it sounds like that is correct plus would fit better in the context of the song, like you when I first heard the song I thought it was "crying is the easier down." Your comment is much appreciated all the same 😎

      Bonnie S. D. I don’t know for sure, but since he is writing about one of his best friend’s life and death, crying as they ease you down make sense regarding the funeral.

    • @DonMac
      @DonMac  5 років тому

      @@carolynthomason5755, as I said in my reply to Bonnie S.D. if you play it at half speed it does indeed sound like "Crying as they ease you down" which in the context of the song is a better fit than "Crying is the easier down"

      @@carolynthomason5755 Thanks for more thinking on the subject, although it makes a lot of sense -- non-appreciation of the benefits of crying being what it is -- that JB would say "you'd rather we were dancing." I've continued to listen closely and stand by my sense that, at the word "ease," he's putting two more syllables to it. Best wishes to you.

    This song is so Kahil Gibran, reminds me of "The Profit's" take on marriage and children. If you don't know what I'm talking about, read the book. It was big in the 60's and 70's

    • @DonMac

      Maybe but if you read the video description the song has nothing to do with marriage, it's about the loss of a friend
