The image of the 5th Fellowship was what conviced me to buy my first warhammer miniatures. So seeing someone bring this great image to life in ways I never could is awesome. Execellent work on the paint job, they look marvelous!
I was struggling with a color recipe for an unrelated project, but seeing the clear red over the metallic gold base was the catalyst that gave me my eureka moment, thank you!!
@@heresyera rewatching this (and your other videos), was curious if you scratch up, or otherwise do anything on the wrists/hand parts before gluing, or do you superglue painted surface to painted surface? I've gotten in the habit of using masking fluid for joints/neck nubs/etc. before priming and painting, but was wondering if it's worth the extra effort?
YES! i was hoping these guys would show up. after reading the campaign book i loved them, and might paint some myself. there's something about loyalists from traitor legions that's so compelling. and i liked how they were just there to do the job and didn't complain about anything. 'we're just happy to be here man. it's about the only thing we're happy about these days'
Seriously - Such a unique formation. Its cool that they had color plates in Horus Heresy Book 7 Inferno and Liber Hereticus as more traditional Thousand Sons form and then in Cthonia as late heresy loyalists. Their role is so cool in the Siege of Cthonia that I had to do some 'Historically' accurate renditions of them.
Very cool I’m painting a 30k ultramarine army and this has inspired me to finish the age of darkness box set I have 20 marines and a spartan left to paint .dropped you a sub

absolutely - this thousand sons video nearly killed me doing such a big batch on camera. i think i’ll do a few more HQ videos like you suggested. do you have any in mind you would like to see?
Something funny that I read on the Lexicanum: At the end of the battle of Prospero, Magnus had teleported about 1000 of his men into the Warp, and managed to link up with another few thousand or so of his marines; during the Heresy, the legion as a whole stood at 9000 marines. In contrast, when the 5th Fellowship surrendered to the Imperium and rejoined their forces, they had a little over 3000 Astartes. So, about 1/3 of the TS remained loyal! Now, this may not be 100% accurate as it was on Lexicanum, but that is a funny thought. Has any other legion really had that much of an uncooperative element?
There were also plenty of other groups that survived because either they were sent away by Magnus or were away from Prospero during the Burning, one of the most notable being the loyalist forces of the 6th Fellowship (around half of the total Fellowship if i recall correctly) which garrisoned the Forgeworld of Zhao-Arkhad long before the beginning of the Heresy and are pretty much the main reason it never fell to the traitors during it (and why it could rejoin the Imperium almost unscathed during the Scouring).
@@totalNERD-eo7wx no the Fifth/5th Fellowship are those that were on Prospero during the Burning and managed to escape (the guys from the video), meanwhile those i mentioned from Zhao-Arkhad are a garrison force that was put there permanently due the legion's ties with the Forgeworld and were mainly from the Sixth/6th Fellowship (basically Fellowship is what the Thousand Sons used to refer to their Chapters/Companies during the Great Crusade).
Another great paintjob! I'd love to see some Iron Hands (the ones that show up on Cthonia and then vanish without trace) or Nightlords (not on Cthonia). As far as models: A Land Raider! Iv just discovered your channel today. Iv watched 4 of them so far. Iv got to admit I'm impressed. You demonstrate in a very simple and easy way to to follow. I'm looking forward to a Sons of Horus painting tutorial.
seriously thank you. i’m going to absolutely do a few sons of horus painting guides - they are one of my favorite legions and i have a huge army of them. any squads in particular you want to see painted?
@heresyera I'm new to Heresy. So for me personally a standard Tactical Squad would be great. Get the basics. Then I could progress on to the more advanced models.
An infantry and tank video will be the minimum for them. For tac marine video, probably do a mix of mk3 and mk6. SOH are one of my favorite legions and i personally own a huge collection of them. Really want to do them right.
Traitor Legion Loyalists are the best and I can't wait for you to finish the Siege of Cthonia models. Hoping for the next Campaign/Project will be the burning of Prospero for more of the Thousands Sons, Space Wolves, and even a small detachment of Sons of Horus to top it.
So was planning on Beta Garmon but a lot of people have asked for Prospero. I hadn't originally considered it, but it makes sense. There are far fewer armies at Prospero and it wouldnt take too long for me to do a large space wolf and traditional thousand sons army. I would have to make an Epic table though.
Love your videos!! I'm just about to start my Night Lords army but can't work out how I should paint them. Hoping you might have a video on them soon! 🤩
Excellent video as always. I don't collect or play TS but this is making me want to dabble in them at some point, maybe using the 40k rubric marines for vets and command squad....
i got some bits from those kits to use on a few more 5th fellowship models. small stuff like staffs and the spell casting hands - the tartaros terminators have some good bits too.
Great video! And id love to see you paint some night lords, I’m painting the starter set axe praetor as a night lord and I’m not really sure a good way to paint their scheme.
Im going to do NL but they aways out. want to finish Cthonia, Beta Garmon and then move back to Istvaan 5 and will absolutely do NL. Using some of my guides, you can do the similar approach to NL. Just base black, add a darker blue, then add a slightly lighter blue, wash with Blue or black shade and then paint the details the same as any of my guides.
Absolutely stunning!!! Have you done any veteran imperial fists squads? Would love to either see a showcase or how you tackle the inverse color scheme!
i just painted an inverted color scheme imperial fists veteran squad off camera. they are being based now. i can do a youtube short with them. been doing these videos and cranking out imperial fists in the background for the campaign videos
I did them in HH 1.0, and do want to re do them for HH2.0. The basic marines are pretty quick and easy to paint, so you have a bit of time to spend on doing the hazard striping and other details. They have a really cool transfer sheet too.
Excellent work as always!! Still not my legions lol but I do have a place in my heart for the thousand sons, with their book A thousand sons being my first heresy novel. Keep up the amazing work my friend :)
They have never been one of my legions either. First time painting them. Really enjoyed making them. They are a very specific faction of the thousand sons at a very specific point in the heresy - Id love to do a standard legion army of prospero era thousand sons. What legions are you looking to see? More alpha legion and Word Bearers are coming next.
@heresyera I one did a commission job for 40k sons in the scheme of blades of magnus. They were the ones loyal to the black legion, so it was pretty simple yet striking. I'm a patient guy lol I'm enjoying the content you put out, so I'm all for more alpha legion and word bearers. But please, if more alpha no cloaking loyalist! It's been so played out it's almost cliché lol
i’ll do a huge blood angels host after the Siege of Cthonia bat reps drop. i have a big blood angels 4th edition army and they remain one of my favorite legions.
They are actually quite fast to paint. I still have my large HH 1.0 army of them. I want to re-do them with the new plastics. I use Vallejo Metallic Black as the base, Iron Breaker the trim, and then wash the entire model with nuln oil. its a few steps less than most legions.
@heresyera I just picked up a massive collection off of a guy with all of the dreadnoughts, Vehicles, and Ferrus painted but I have a bunch of marines to paint so I'm trying to figure out the best way to do that! Would definitely love to see an updated video/scheme for them from you!
First of all, amazing tutorial,I'm really interested in a loyalist thousand sons force, too bad GW won't release transfers for them. As for painting tutorial suggestions, iron warriors anything. We want attention too.😅
Your work is amazing dude! And how lore driven you are too, my request would be imperial militia / solar auxilia, any regiment would do.. personally I’m trying to go for heresy era Tallarn
Dude yes! i have a pretty big militia army i want to do a showcase for. Was an army I built around Imperial Armour Vol 5, that I adapted for Heresy. Currently have some Solar Aux but want to re-do them. Do you think we are going to get a tallarn companion book to the Legions Imperialis one coming? similar to beta garmon
@@heresyera hell yeah! Book 5 was my first discovery of forge world, I attempted a vraks army but was still on pocket money in those days, got a militia army too so would be good to see your take! Would be pretty sweet if we did, know they’ve switched to mech for the next big heresy book but they’re bound to return for Tallarn with the new iron warriors transfers at some point
IA5 was a good time to get into FW. I was sweating Forge World since its creation but couldn't really start buying select kits until around IA5. I remember the elysians were so out of budget when they came in IA3. I would love to see proper Militia / Imperial Army kits. Be cool to see the old rogue trader models re imagined. Tallarn brings hope but i sort of just expect them to paint some Tallarn Solar Aux
Absolutely want to. Might do a few units before i can commit to painting army on the channel. I need a few units of loyalist solar aux for the campaign
Love them. Still not a fan of helmet spikes. Personally mk4 armor suites the legion the best, and the spiked Mk3 was mostly a death guard attribute. However as a fellow son of the Crimson king I can’t complain too much. Amazing miniatures mate.
Thank you. Im absolutely hurting with the lack of Mk4 and MK2 armor. Armor choices are very important with legion identity as your choice of armor mark and to what proportion you make up your infantry with them, can help your army better represent the books. These guys being the 5th fellowship in late war, as per the fiction, i wanted to largely represent them in their re-outfitted form.
Might I recommend tortuga bay? They’re based in Ukraine and take foreve to arrive but their mk4 armor is awesome. I am making a dornian heresy thousand sons successor. Also thanks for the lore on the loyalist thousand sons. I love them I just hate how the thousand sons are in 40k. 30k was peak drip
Horus heresy marines require more effort on the colour schemes than 40k marines I feel they do just by looking at the colour schemes they use, fantastic models magnus would be proud
been getting a lot of requests for iron warriors. they are a really fun legion to paint. the base armor is very easy which leaves you lots of time to do hazard stripes
First of all i love your thousand sons second of all i have question what are your thoughts on 3d printing some upgrade parts that arent that available?
I generally dont 3D print. I have seen some cool stuff done before. @IN_EXCELSIS_MILIA, who helped me with the transfers, has a ton of cool thousand sons designs. His stuff is cool because he builds off existing design elements and his stuff fits in pretty seamlessly.
My only question and request is where and how you get your decals im desperate to find blood angels or a way to make my own custom ones please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
normally i use the forge world sheets. i don’t a blood angels army before - sheet has tons of legion markings but you run out of squad markings after 40 or so infantry - custom sheets are a possibility but you have to re design the legion icon- probably better use of time to buy 2x FW ones
one of my favorite legions. I do have the shadrak medusan model coming any day. I ordered on the first day of Pre-Orders and its still not here from GW!
i use a lot of secret weapon but they went out of business. switched over to abteilung powders and they are great. i recommend a standard brown and a dark yellow at a minimum. the yellow looksoff in the powder form but it applies really nicely.
I forsure want to rotate back to them. Did an army when the Thramas crusade book came out in the previous edition of the horus heresy. Really want to re imagine them with the new plastics. They are an army that i want to wait until MK2 and MK4 armor drops.
I go black because u can do like 85-90% coverage. Minor black is still in the cracks. I think if you went for 100% coverage with the gold over grey, they would be a much brighter red in the end result. Sure it would work, just be slightly different outcome.
@@heresyera awesome, thanks for the reply and I’ll have to try the black/gold prime on my custodes. Just getting back into the hobby after about 15 years and have found your videos to be very informative.
Thank you. Ive done Custodes before using Chaos Black / Retributor / Airbrush of a lighter gold / Drybrush with Silver / wash with Agrax or Seraphim Sepia.
Yes they did. I absolutely want to do white bolter casings when I get to doing a traditional thousand sons army. These models represent the re-equipped 5th Fellowship. I painted the bolters black like the original artist who rendered them in miniature form. Keeping them black helps reinforce their rearmament visually and will better differentiate them from the traditional thousand sons.
If, like me, you paint like blind person with no fingers, and you slip whilst doing trim and what-not, can you paint the mistake gold and just go over with a brush of the red?
corrected myself * - i went back and watched the video after you called that out and sure enough - i was saying chaos black half the time. Shows my age - back in the day there was only Chaos Black.
The campaign games you play with your mates must be awesome with these models

Horus heresy marines require more effort on the colour schemes than 40k marines I feel they do just by looking at the colour schemes they use, fantastic models magnus would be proud
Thank you. Some schemes require more effort but most are about the same as 40k.
Amazing. Could you do a tutorial for sons of hourus to do battle against the imperial fists
Yes, im going to do SOH forsure. Have a huge army of them and they are one of my favorite legions.
Please do iron warriors or night lords next!
been getting a lot of requests for iron warriors. they are a really fun legion to paint. the base armor is very easy which leaves you lots of time to do hazard stripes
Need some fritty iron warriors from you
First of all i love your thousand sons second of all i have question what are your thoughts on 3d printing some upgrade parts that arent that available?
I generally dont 3D print. I have seen some cool stuff done before. @IN_EXCELSIS_MILIA, who helped me with the transfers, has a ton of cool thousand sons designs. His stuff is cool because he builds off existing design elements and his stuff fits in pretty seamlessly.
Like this comment, so that this amazing video gets recognition from the mighty UA-cam algorithm, and for the Dark Gods ! ❤
Could you show us how to paint emperor’s children? Also how long does each video take to make?
I want to do EC after Cthonia. This video took about 8 days to make and paint. Figure painting usually takes twice as long when filming.
Iron Warriors soon please!!!
Many Unification Wars veterans, I see!
many 🙏
My only question and request is where and how you get your decals im desperate to find blood angels or a way to make my own custom ones please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
normally i use the forge world sheets. i don’t a blood angels army before - sheet has tons of legion markings but you run out of squad markings after 40 or so infantry - custom sheets are a possibility but you have to re design the legion icon- probably better use of time to buy 2x FW ones
Iron Hands pls 🙌🙌
one of my favorite legions. I do have the shadrak medusan model coming any day. I ordered on the first day of Pre-Orders and its still not here from GW!
What weathering powders do you recommend?
i use a lot of secret weapon but they went out of business. switched over to abteilung powders and they are great. i recommend a standard brown and a dark yellow at a minimum. the yellow looksoff in the powder form but it applies really nicely.
I'm Curious on what will you do with Night Lords
I forsure want to rotate back to them. Did an army when the Thramas crusade book came out in the previous edition of the horus heresy. Really want to re imagine them with the new plastics. They are an army that i want to wait until MK2 and MK4 armor drops.
Dark angel painting guides?
by chance dose in excelsis milia have a store to get his decals from?
he has a cults 3d for design work. He gave me the file he used for his 3d designs and i modified it and printed the sheets.
@@heresyera ahh ok maybe i can contact him.
Regarding the priming stage, is there a reason you didn’t go straight retributor armour spray?
❤️🤘🔥
looking for space wolves😢😊
Didn't HH era thousand sons use white gun casings?
Yes they did. I absolutely want to do white bolter casings when I get to doing a traditional thousand sons army. These models represent the re-equipped 5th Fellowship. I painted the bolters black like the original artist who rendered them in miniature form. Keeping them black helps reinforce their rearmament visually and will better differentiate them from the traditional thousand sons.
If I may ask, what's the easiest Horus Heresy Legion to paint?
Iron Warriors!
@@heresyera That's true, besides the hazard stripes
yep. There are alternate schemes on them too, like the solid yellow pads, solid yellow pad with single black stripe etc.
@@heresyera Cool
If, like me, you paint like blind person with no fingers, and you slip whilst doing trim and what-not, can you paint the mistake gold and just go over with a brush of the red?
precisely - or u can simply use a touch of silver and blend it into the sponge weather if it’s minor
@@heresyeracool! Thank you 😊
Abaddon Black huh? 😁
any black really
@@heresyera but you said Abaddon this time, not Chaos Black ;)
corrected myself * - i went back and watched the video after you called that out and sure enough - i was saying chaos black half the time. Shows my age - back in the day there was only Chaos Black.
@@heresyera dw i commented the same thing previously so hearing Abaddon was kind of easter egg 🤣

😵💫
Are you using Citadel paints by the way ?
You say way too much , all paints are Citadel unless stated would be so much easier on the ear
