    I'm almost midway through a two month stay here in Istanbul, and so far I am really enjoying the city (especially the ferries). I am relying on Google Translate heavily - and everyone so far has been very helpful. I'm staying in Kadiköy, close enough to the main area of activities, so it's not quite so quiet here, but I can shut the window when it gets too much :) Thanks for the video!

    You truly describe Türkiye so well. I have been following your channel for a while and I am currently in Ankara visiting. I have been here for 2 months now and I am amazed at how quickly one gets to know the neighborhood shopkeepers. I have 3 supermarkets within a two-minute walking distance. There’s a language barrier but we somehow work it out with hand gestures and Google Translate. I love the people, their culture, and the food!

    I wonder if locals think/ worry about potential future earthquake? 🤔 ...maybe with the consideration of the buildings safety from the last century-ies... Not that I am negative, but Istanbul has clearly very specific location so just wondering HOW locals approache to this type of thinking..🤷🏻‍♀️... I mean, is it the same as living on the west coast of U.S. when the architecture is already suited for this kind of situation? Considering, Istanbul is very ancient megapolis plus the building amnesty from previous years... I don't know, hard to say... Maybe you can shed a little light on this topic 😊 Thank you, love your videos 💯👌

    • @KanalYD
      @KanalYD 6 місяців тому +2

      Hello, I am one of the local people. We all have earthquake awareness. On August 17, 1999, a major earthquake occurred in a region close to Istanbul. Thousands of people died. Since then, the rules for the construction of buildings have changed a lot. Today, with the support of the state and local municipalities, old houses are being demolished and replaced with earthquake-resistant new ones. However, very old houses or structures that are historical monuments are strengthened with steel construction. However, in a city where 16 million registered people, +3 million refugees and illegal immigrants, and 16 - 17 million tourists come annually, the change in construction normally progresses slowly. My advice to future tourists or long-term stays is to stay in newly built buildings.

      Para nada, las rentas en ambas zonas rondan en lo mismo, aquí en el lado asiático cerca de mi casa, especialmente los depas casi en la playa, están en casi 100K liras mensuales, aquí en el lado asiático hay muchas zonas muy lujosas y caras, así que eso de que “es más barato” nada que ver, están igual.

      We stayed at Hotel Celine, which is located in the Old City. If you value location, it is a fantastic hotel. It came with breakfast and the staff was super helpful. They also have a shuttle service to and from the airport. It is a former Ottoman mansion!

      Look for a hotel in Sirkeci or Cankurtaran. Both areas are very convenient to the main sights like the Blue Mosque, Hagia Sophia, Basilica Cistern etc. These 2 neighbourhoods are also convenient to the trams, ferries, and Marmaray.
