    I watched all of your videos and got your guides before I went to Turkey for the first time at the end of August. I thought I might spend 3 weeks in the country, but I ended up staying for almost 6 weeks (before continuing on to other countries over 4 months of travel). I started in Istanbul, and your info about the bus from the airport, Turkcell, public transportation, etc. was all very helpful. I also visited Ankara, Goreme, Konya, Antalya, Fethiye, Pammukale, Selcuk/Ephesus, and Izmir. Your info about these places and about how to travel by bus and train between the cities was also very useful. (I never needed to take a taxi or uber taxi the whole time.) I was traveling alone and always felt safe. The people were so nice, and I have many examples of how people went out of their way to help me (even when neither of us could speak the other's language at all - I can only speak English). Of the 11 countries I visited, Turkey was my favorite due to the historical sites, natural sites, and the kindness of the people. (I did enjoy a lot about all the places I visited; Turkey was just my favorite overall and I visited the most cities there). The others were Greece, Albania, North Macedonia, Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary, Austria, Slovakia, Czechia, and Germany (the only country I had been to before, this time I went to a completely different area - Berlin). After watching your Iran videos, I now want to go there too!

    Don't care bags and anything important in bags, my phone got stolen from my bag which was inside tightly zipped pocket and bag was under my arm, and it happened in split of the second. Keep your phone in the front pocket zipped and don't show it (don't use in public). Before taking taxi - discuss how much it will cost - otherwise they may give you tour in circles and charge x10. Do not leave anything valuable in the hotel room, take it with you if you go out. even if tis is expensive perfume. I got my cosmetics and perfume disappeared after room cleaning. Or just lave everything locked in hotel locker. BTW issues like that I experienced only in Istanbul, any other city people were more friendly and even if you drop wallet they most likely will return it to you (that also happen to me in another city).

    You should cover how to register the Istanbul card online before using it. It can't be used until you register it online. I remember it being very difficult. You do not need to register your istanbul card anymore. It was a rule for covid times and it’s been moths since that thing was finally lifted. It is not required anymore. En noviembre pasado fui a Grecia y me sorprendió que todo mundo habla buen inglés, sólo algunas pocas personas de más de 55 o 60 años no hablan algo de inglés.
      Saludos😊

    Honestly, Istanbul and Turkey in general completely dissapointed me food-wise. Meats were of very low quality and they are relying on spice mix for flavor, spice mix which has an off-taste, they also use it in Bulgaria. Sweets were kind of OK but nothing "out of this world". For western europe tourists it might be "wow", but i have eaten WAYYY better food in my country, and other places close to Turkey, namely Greece, where the food is easy 3x better than Turkey for me.
    Also turkish coffee, not a big fan, meanwhile espresso's are awfull while capuccino's are ok. Switzerland and Italy are my coffee go to countries.

    @Bery Instanbul hi can you explain to me how Thatch works??

    • @BeryIstanbulTips
      @BeryIstanbulTips  Рік тому

      Sure! Is an app where content creators as myself share our knowledge through our guides and itineraries, you can find a few free ones, many others have a fee, you can find guides/itineraries from many places around the world, and in my case, the ebooks I launched earlier this year, I’m now also offering them there with the platform’s style, Thatch also has interactive maps, etc, is a very nice app and easy to use! You can use the itineraries on the go while exploring the city.
      Here you can find a free guide of mine, but we also have others with a fee:
      share.thatch.co/PihX
      And on this link, you can find the rest of my available guides:

    I acquired an 'istanbul card' from a card machine at "sishane metro station" ( because my hotel was situated close by ) but I was unable to get the card to work on the "tram services" and at the "public toilets" ( I had charged it when I purchased it ). So, I simply walked everywhere.
    Does anyone have an idea as to why it didn't work ??? What might I have done wrong ?? Did it require registration ,??
    Thanks

    • @BeryIstanbulTips
      @BeryIstanbulTips  Рік тому +1

      It doesn’t requiere any registration and it should work there too, the tram is part of public transportation so does the orange toilets, I always pay with my IstanbulKart there without a problem.

    Could anyone suggest a public transport app in Istanbul? Tried Google maps, but it seems only to present buses. The Metro and Trams are excluded from its navigation, unless you specifically type in the station name and click the line. Thanks in advance for any advice.

    Tip One. Istanbul taxi drivers are thieves, avoid taxis at all costs.
    Tip Two. Always have cash with you,Turkish restaurants prefer it.
    Tip Three.
    You’ll get a better currency exchange rate in Istanbul than you will back home. #UK
    Tip Four. Don’t use ATMs, they charge an 8% fee.

    Never ever ride on Public transport. Pick pocketers are in abundance. I was misguided by videos included this video. May be she don't know about this but we have lost our passport, cell phone and cash. A family man with kids ( suspected) stole our belongings from my wife's handbag while we are traveling from Emonono to Sultan Ahm😢

      @BeryIstanbulTips  Рік тому +4

      Sorry that this happened to you but is also important to pay attention everywhere we go to, not just here.
      In my 8 years of living here, I’ve never got pickpocketed or anything like that and is for a simple reason, I never put things easy for them, whenever I go to those areas (touristy ones) I only use a cross bag that I can keep in front of me all the time, never leave my things unattended, and no one can have access to it, never carry my phone on my hand, or other things in my clothes’ pockets. My husband as an Istanbulite does exactly the same and is important that visitors do this as well. I wouldn’t say “never use public transport”, instead, I’d suggest taking more care of our stuff and when using public transportation especially for those having a backpack or purses (women), to always put them in their front body, never on a side or back where everybody can have access to them. Also for women I suggest using a bag that is not half open from top because those are easy targets, instead, use one that fully closes.
      I also apply this rule anywhere I travel to and thankfully nothing has ever happened to me (pickpocketing), even in public transportation when is crowded I get my small bag in my chest and put my arms around.

      It is not about you were misguided by the videos, it is because you weren’t careful enough to take care of your belongings. You should definitely blame it on you.
      You can face pickpocketing everywhere in the world.

    I was in Turkey last week. Here’s an honest take from an American tourist that you will NOT hear from bloggers. It is a very dirty crowded city! smoking is ALLOWED in hotels and restaurants. If you are a non smoker, it’s suffocating! Most of the tourists are from other middle eastern countries and quite disgusting 🤮, the things I saw! I stayed at the Four Seasons and would recommend there if you are looking for a better experience and great dining. They arrange the taxi price for you beforehand.

    • @BeryIstanbulTips
      @BeryIstanbulTips  Рік тому +2

      I have spoken about that issue 😂 so I’m not “all bloggers”.
      I have a video of things I don’t like in Turkiye and that’s one of the things I added.
      As a non smoker myself, I do agree with you that it is suffocating, however, all restaurants and cafes have smoking areas (outdoors) where smoking is allowed, indoors is totally forbidden everywhere and that’s the law, if you saw a place allowing smoking indoors, you should report it.
      I was recently diagnosed with allergic asthma and sometimes I have cough attacks and I have to use inhalator when it gets really bad and being outside with mostly everybody being a smoker here is a huge struggle. That is why that whenever we go to a cafe or restaurant I now choose indoors to avoid sitting among smokers because ate some point I don’t know if I’m tasting my food or the cigarette 🤮

      I'm sorry you had a bad experience, but this is a government issue. Do not forget that there are 10 million refugees in Turkey. All of these refugees are from the Middle East countries and the Turkish people are incredibly uncomfortable with this situation. My sisters, my mother are afraid to walk on the street at night. Don't accuse me of racism, but many people from the Middle East have bad habits. Especially when they harass tourists from Europe and America, they blame the Turks. It's really unbelievably bad.

      The constant smoking everywhere is awful in turkey. Just returned from there and what was so upsetting is wanting to sit outside for the beautiful views but getting constantly bombarded by cigarette smoke. Who wants to be forced to sit inside with views like that? There were definitely nicer areas, Turkey is very diverse in that sense. You can go to areas where it’s less touristy, which I ended up doing a few times, with different crowds of people but that’s usually more expensive areas.
