Thank you! Bought an ’89 Isuzu pickup with 2.3 engine and AC. Previous owner had jury rigged an electric fuel pump with VERY scary wiring that started engine a couple times then quit. Decided to replace original mechanical for peace of mind, and your video was a nice help in finding the silly thing hidden behind the jumble of wires and hoses under the intake manifold. 🙂 Never had or worked on anything Isuzu before and am quite impressed with how well built it is, for example, 6 lug wheels on a mini pickup-simply WOW‼️😲👍
Thanks Man for saving a lot of time and money by doing it this way ! Followed your instructions and it went fairly smooth . The left hand nut was a bit challenging but nonetheless ……
Glad to here it..the older 1st gen Troopers before 85 i think had the 2.3 engine .they seem to have even more room in engine bay than the trucks..you shou l be fine .let me know if I can help thanks.
Thanks for posting. I have a 1989 2.3L standard transmission. I think I have a vapor lock engine and may need to check all fuel lines. Keep posting tips. Not a lot out there for this great little truck.
@Briz Garcia check the fuel filter and fuel thank inlet screen... I have also found that by-passing the mechanical pump and mounting an electric fuel pump near the fuel tank, really helps to stop vapor- lock issues... Use no more than 4to5 psi fuel pressure on carburators.... A pressure regulator might be necessary, when using an electric pump, for a carbureted engine to keep the pressure no higher than 4 to 5 psi...
@@michaelmartinez1345 , thanks for the timely reply. Just this week my truck is having trouble starting and today the engine stopped mid drive. I think it is likely a fuel pump issue. I have an AC compressor but will try the method you suggested in replacing. Thank again.
@@brizbgarcia1 The AC compressors do an excellent job, at moving A/C refrigerants, but not necessarily very good at moving other fluids or gas's other than what they were designed to handle... Just about a couple weeks ago, I replaced a mechanically driven fuel pump on a '91 Isuzu p/u with a gas 2.3 litre engine... It was ridiculously in-accessable, and the replacement pump was defective.... So I returned the faulty camshaft-driven replacement fuel pump , with an electric fuel pump that put out 2.5 -4.5 psi, to supply the carburetor... The electric pump is mounted close to the fuel tank, and there is an inline fuel filter immediately after the pump... I installed a 10a. Fuse from the ignition circuit, in the factory fuse panel, for the power going to the pump through a 20' long, 16awg power lead wire... The other wire on the pump went to the frame of the truck to supply a ground curcuit... The truck has become easier to start, has excellent throttle response, excellent power, and DOES NOT VAPOR LOCK anymore.... Consider doing this.... You'll probably like it.... The best thing of this repair is, the electric pump , fuse & holder, wire and filter - with new hoses, cost maybe $15 more than the stock p.o.s. , Chinese made aftermarket mechanically driven pump.... I should have done that right from the start.... The owner of this little truck has told me, that this truck has never run this good before, and it is actualally getting BETTER fuel mileage than it did before the fuel pump change. It's the simple things like this, that can make a big difference.... Good luck with Your truck Amigo....
I have a '93 with an air conditioning compressor and let me tell you, it is definitely in the way. The compressor does not allow easy access to the fuel pump. I tried but no luck. Good video though 👍
what does that 90 degree, downward tube coming off the side of the fuel pump go to? it has a hose on it going toward the ground. mine has no hose on it.
where do your hoses go underneath? i have three with hoses that appear to go nowhere and one not attached to anything. i last did my fuel pump nine years ago. my chiltons isn’t much help. thanks
My thoughts exactly! Why aren’t there more videos about going in through the side? I’m currently removing the intake manifold on an 89 Trooper with AC but there isn’t half the room this Isuzu has.
I have a 93 Isuzu pickup (2.3L) and I replaced my fuel pump a while back and ever since then I have been having problems with the pressure going to and from my tank. I think I have some lines going to the wrong places. I have tried to find diagrams and videos to describe where to put the four hoses but I cant find anything and I was wondering if you could help. It would greatly be appreciated.
Hi great vid .can I ask you a question ? I have a 1992 Isuzu pickup 2.3 gas engine 4 cylinder. I'm so losing oil like all of it every 40 miles.it comming out of a small rubber hose in the passenger side motor mount area .IRS coming out of the block .no knows that it is ..does the fuel pump cause oil leak when going bad ?.any help would be great Jim.
Hey buddy is there a reason the little hose that connects to the fuel pump would be leaking oil?? I have a bad oil leak and it seems to be coming from the little hose as soon as I crank it up. Thanks in advance
Your info is insightful ! Thank you! I do have a question tho.. 93 2.3l suzu pup... I have a fuel line that is not connected to anything and it leaks fuel after its shut off... Its a line off the fuel pump but i dont know where its suppose to connect at or to what... Any guess?
Got a question. On the canister with 4 lines I know one line goes to fuel tank, one to purge hose, one to canister purge VSV but what does the other hose go to exactly? It looks like carb but what fitting/connection? Thanks so much. Manual is useless in finding an answer.
There is a gasket that should come with your new fuel pump .This helps keep oil from getting into the pump, or the pump may be bad there is seal inside
Never seen one give problems .ive seen a few with super high milage have a low knock at idol...Check the oil pump pick up for clogs .you can drop the oil pan but cant totally remove with out pull the engine most times..
Great Video IG. I like the approach. Its a great little truck and I'm determined to keep her on the road. My pump is leaking gas from or around it. Is the pump likely not the problem and its a fuel connection? Thanks
I have a 1993 isuzu pickup 2.3l, I was able to get the pump out. But I am having a hard time getting the new pump installed. My first try, I thought I had it, however I was not getting fuel pumped to the carburetor. Any suggestions
How do I find top dead center on the 4th cylinder? I have a 92 pickup and just did my fuel pump and now it won't start it will crank over but wont start feels like no fuel is getting thru and when I push the gas feels like no pressure any help or ideas?
Check the lines feed and return it you mixed these up it won't start .Also the top dead center on #4 is just to insure the point for is not in the way when installing the new fuel pump
I'm so glad you posted this video because I'm about to change my fuel pump on my 92 isuzu pickup 2.3 5speed and to be honest I couldn't even find it. Also has air conditioning. Thanks again! I want to say I dont have a fuel issue other than its weeping oil from the pump and its burning gas like crazy. 45 highway miles ate up a 1/4 tank of gas which for even a v8 that's terrible. Have any ideas?
You also may want to check the float in the carb if the float sticks it will continue to let gas in .this may find its way into the crank case .check your oil level and if its high on the stick and smells like gas ..you need to change tge oil and filter...theres not many mechanics around any more that will tackle a carburetor problem ..
@@jorgeberganza3533 not sure what you mean ..there is a feed line from fuel pump .fuel pressure regulated and one to the carb and a return line to the tank....not sure about oil line...but thanks for the question..
