3:10 Tip: If you get a pipe wrench and weld a piece of rebar to the top of it, it will give you two handles for much better control and a lot easier to twist cable.
The pattern looks nice and paired up with that bone handle, I must say that it is something special, my friend. I have never seen anything like that before. stay safe and enjoy your weekend!
@@FireCreekForge your very welcome, I was wondering if you received it yet or not. hope you enjoy it. that is some of our favorite coffee we drink it every day. Thanks for all you do! hope you could read the letter, I have wrist issues and can't hold a pen very well. I prefer to type a lot less painful for me. Take care!
Thanks for this very instructive video! Some of the questions you answered hadn't even occurred to me yet, but I do believe the way you handled the untwisting prior to forge welding is the way to go. I think the etch came out beautifully, and I wonder what a coffee etch would have looked like after the ferric.
Awesome video man! Blade looks nice! I’m a huge fan of antler handles I use a lot of moose antler and I just acquired some cable from a drill rig on the north slope. I’ll be welding it up for my first time.
If you want the look but need a better edge once you have hammered out the cable flat fold it length ways in to a long U and insert a 1/16" bar of your favorite edge steel in the U and fordge flat . This works particularly nice with s.s.cable and a carbon edge .
Well explained cause I don’t counter twist or even twist the cable at all and while it may forge weld nicely it does in fact lack the luster of say this pattern Nice work again 👊
Bruh that is an ILL pattern! It’s like the Godzilla of Damascus. I really love your videos every week. Keep up the good work! Also I suspect you were in that mid-week Texas snowstorm based on wearing the coat in the shop....
Their abrasives are pretty great. I hadn't heard of them either until I got a belt grinder that came with an assortment of their belts. Ive been using the same belt for what seems like forever. Maybe a year or more now. However I dont make knives but I use it to sharpen different blades and general uses.
You can also just weld both ends, heat it up and then pounded on the floor endfirst and it'll open itself up and all the crap will come flying out. Then flux and retwist.🔥🛠🔪👍✌
Cool knife. I definitely enjoyed the video and appreciate your detailed instructional commentary. Just one concern though. Bone dust is seriously bad for your lungs. You might consider a mask. Keep on inspiring those of us who are just starting, or planning on doing so in the near future.

That pattern really turned out amazing!
I recently found your channel. I really like the narration. I learn so much more than watching the many channels that show a knife build set to music.
Thanks for watching!

An oversized die handle
Nice knife with a sick pattern! And I dig the antler handle. Good work on it.
Loved the testing part!
Man, that came out looking cool as heck.
Thanks!
That's an apocalyptic look, and it's awesome looking!
Thanks!
Congratulations on the sponsorship! The blade looks awesome.
Thanks!
Beautiful work dude. 👊😀

The pattern looks kinda like a butterfly wing, pretty cool
Ever try 2 cable slabs forged around a O1 center? That or fold/forge your cable around a Nicholson file so you have a crazy sharp blade?
I haven't (yet), but a san mai like that is probably the best application for cable in a blade.
Super nice and crisp pattern 😊
Very cool!
Brass rod test is cruel but blade survived that. Knife look beautiful awesome pattern👍👍👍👍
That's a gorgeous knife!

Nice job!
Thanks!
Yea looks very kewl done that way, great build.
I can dig it.
Very nice!
Cool knife. Must have been cold down there - hat and coat and all
Thanks, yes it was!

Thanks! Yes, it got a bit chilly for a couple days!
Forge weld a piece of that cable to either side of a bar of 1084 and make a san mai be blade!
The knife looks like dragon scales.
I think so too

Ah, cool idea! Thanks for watching
Could you mix like powder steel in the cable to make the cable strands stand out more
I suppose you could in some kind of canister set up..
@@FireCreekForge I have weird ideas lol
@@kubby5189 hey might be worth a try
@@FireCreekForge let me know how it works, i not have the equipment to try and do it
What is this solution, what do you divide the bol knife into? can you explain me
What would you think about nickel plating a cable when it's flayed open, after degreasing, then twisting it back together for forging?
I suppose that could work
Where do you source cable of that size?
Hightemptools dot-com
Where can someone buy a large piece of cable?
I got this from hightemptools dot com
buen dia compadre disculpa la sugerencia seria mejor si usas una sthilson para girar el cable es mas seguro y mejor agarre. Saludos
Just wondering if you normalized the blade after you forged the blade because that would make the blade less likely to warp
Yep I did
How many times I normally do about 3 times
Of course I have been doing this for about 30 years
By the way great work
@@anthonyfletcher7574 yes, although technically just the first one is normalizing; the following two at graduated lower temps for grain refinement
Can you tell us where you got the cable from? Please!!!!!! lol
Why didn't you muriatic acid to do it for cable Damascus that what my dad used when he worked with it. Worked well when he did knife's and axs
I haven't used muriatic before but that would be one way I guess
