I clicked on this to see June but I am totally blown away with the accompaniment, they are so in tune with each other, almost making June's vocal secondary. Singers---including myself---search forever to find great musicians like The Ernie Filice Quartet---but would not it be a Quintet as there are 5 in the group? This qunitet is rocking even before June starts to sing. Thanks a million for posting.
It's the utterly splendid Claude Williamson on piano, who was member of the Ernie Felice (accordion) Quintet; as were Dick Fisher on guitar, Rolly Bundock on bass, and Dick Anderson on clarinet. Mr. Williamson was also the musical director of this show.
it´s "handmade" music, played by very good musicians, representing the style of the beginning fifties (the accordion!), transporting a lot of happy emotions. It surely is popular music of a past time, but in this it´s perfect
Perfectly swinging, fantastic voice, gorgeous woman, the loveliest smile. Simply: I fell in love with this kind of music and this most beautiful lovely woman. So bad, it's already long ago.
Oh what a wonderful husky voice! She's fantastic! Restrained power and clear enunciation. And I love the way she pronounces "go" , "blow" and "aglow". What a girl! What a discovery! Thanks for posting this!
OMG she is so . .so beautiful and such a lovely smile, and of course that voice . . I'm just lost for words - if only you could come back June. God bless and thank you a million times over lovely lady.
JimmyBluff...You got that so right.!! I'm 50 & my mom used to play these records & pick us up & dance with us in the house!! You're right...very distinctive. :-)
I remember hearing her sing I'll Remember April with Kenton at Symphony Hall Boston in the late 40's and have tried to find a recording of it ever since.
It's interesting to note that the arrangement starts out in the Key of A, then after she sings the bridge, they modulate to the Key of Ab, then after the solos' she sings the tune out in Ab, and then after the bridge the band again changes Key , down another half step to the Key of G , where the song ends!! What a cool arrangement! June's singing is stellar along such great females vocalists as Julie London, Diana Shore, and Rosemary Clooney.
@casch0101 Many thanks for your information, I ordered already.I am really knocked out by June Christy, she has a magic combination of qualities. Watching this leaves me smiling broadly with pleasure and a pleasant tingling sensation all over. She just makes me feel really good! How wholesome she is ... and I mean that as a great compliment. I'd like to climb into that clip, give her a hug and kiss and tell her how lovely she is! Sadly, she passed on in 1990 - she's singing for the angels now.
She's heavenly. I prefer her voice in the early years I think. Although it's always marvelous. It's cleaner. I bet she smoked! That destroyed a lot of lives, a lot of great voices too.
Real American jazz, the basic stuff, none of that drug-fueled be-bop of the era. The song was co-written by Cole Porter's first cousin, Ted Fetter. Ted Fetter married a Frenchwoman and adopted her son, Patrick Pleven, who later became a prominent TV director and producer, and finally NYC Film Commission head.
Ernie Felice (acc) Dick Anderson (cl) Glenn Miller's Dick Fisher (g) & Rolly Bundock (b) and the brilliant Claude Williamson on piano. Hope that helps.
Love this performance. Curiously, the Ernie Filice quartet has 5 pieces - a bonus. Love the Bop inspired solo on the piano. Did anyone identify the piano player yet?
for me, it's always been between anita o'day and miss christy. june doesn't flat her notes in the artful way that o'day does but she's still pretty groovy, in the best sense of that word.
I loved that album of yours. Played it on the air at WSIE-FM in St. Louis where I did some volunteer dj work back in about 2003. June was my aunt and Coop a real favorite of mine as a youth. Fabulous guy.

Claude and Ernie were the absolute tops
Who is still listening to this in 2019

@@Lingerick Well said. I enjoy it very much.
A treasure from the past from an unforgettable singer.
Perfectly swinging, fantastic voice, gorgeous woman, the loveliest smile. Simply: I fell in love with this kind of music and this most beautiful lovely woman. So bad, it's already long ago.
Great chart for a great lady! Loved the musicians on this! A sure pick me up song!
wonderful musicians! so happy and carefree.
Gosh, I love Juney so much. She’s a remarkable singer and beautiful.
Her timbre is beautiful!
Thumbs up if you're listening to this and were born after 1990, like me.

June Christy was always my favorite female singer, going back to the 50's. Thanks for this video!
Some one help me. I cannot stop playing this video over and over... June was incredible.
Who would ever get enough of such a tender tune?
Love the Ernie Felice Group. That sound just epitomizes the early 50's. And yes, June is in particularly good form here.
OMG she is so . .so beautiful and such a lovely smile, and of course that voice . . I'm
just lost for words - if only you could come back June. God bless and thank you a million times over lovely lady.
One of the best female jazz vocalists ever - along with the other's who performed with Stan Kenton.
One of my favorite girl singers. I still have 60 year old vinyl LP's of June.
Wow. I always loved her voice, but didn't realize how adorable she was.
Timeless. Wonderful and you can hear the words.
Unforgettable rendition of "Midnight Sun". That's the song I remember her for.
June Christy is one of very few whose voice is a musical instrument. Ella also comes to mind, very, very few others.
So super-soothingly swingin' that sweet melody.
Oh Juney, you’re fabulous. I just love you so!
JimmyBluff...You got that so right.!! I'm 50 & my mom used to play these records & pick us up & dance with us in the house!!
You're right...very distinctive. :-)
June you are gorgeous,
Good times singing this
song in high school choir! :-)
One of the very few whose voice is a musical instrument. Ella immediately comes to mind, and Nat Cole. Only a very few others.
Another great soothing melody!
Excellent songstress, and such a soothing melody - relaxation time ;-)
I love this gem!
fantastic,my favourite as well!!
I'm in love

Such a soothing melody.........Thanks for your efforts ;-)))
Gentle Jazz - Good post Thanks.
A lady of song with healing powers :-)
the way she sings makes it easy to dance to. Lindy hop works great with her version of "Shoo Fly Pie"
Thanks. Claude Williamson.
A small gem !
Awesome!
This comment befor 12 years -_-
Wonderful! Just Wonderful!
I love June Christy and her song, especially in 50's.
Maybe I'm born in wrong generation. Ha Ha!
That's a pretty radical modulation she does after each bridge!
That is healing power 2013: Another great soothing melody.
Rolly Bundock on bass, from the Glenn Miller Band when it was led by Tex Beneke.
ooooooooo!
How I hate to see her getting old!

In my opinion , its the sound of a new brassy horn, and mastery of it. Hip timing. So hip.
This is real American jazz. Jazz as jazz should be.
VERY INTERESTING.......C.A.
What an amazing video! Great post!!

Beaut!

Class
She did several albums in the late 40s with the Johnny Gunaineri Quintet
Thanks for the info!
How many key changes are in this song? She nails every one, pitch perfect.
Und du schaffst es ernsthaft den Konservativusmus der 50er heute noch auf die bedeutendsten Musiker des zwanzigsten Jahrhunderts anzuwenden.
Oh wow!
Isn't she lovely?
Love this performance. Curiously, the Ernie Filice quartet has 5 pieces - a bonus. Love the Bop inspired solo on the piano. Did anyone identify the piano player yet?
The great Claude WIlliamson already cited.
That last chord? Wow
for me, it's always been between anita o'day and miss christy. june doesn't flat her notes in the artful way that o'day does but she's still pretty groovy, in the best sense of that word.
Claude Williams. He was her regular piano player and not a member of the band.
nice :)
Especially not on TV. Yeah! She was a fine swingin' chick. Like-like!
an era where musician could actually play their instrument , not some dj shit scratching the disc , editing everything thru software
love it!
Who is that pianist? He's brilliant!
@gregwaits So would I! Are there any women still this natural and lovely? You're right, June was a real heart-stopper!
Ya know, man, that Mr. Fisher & Mr. Bundock were Miller gates, yeah!
Could someone post june Christys' THE GYPSY IN MY SOUL, THANKS
omg this is soo hacking awsome!!!!!
Plz plz plz plz plz someone send me a link to download it!!!
Is that Bob Cooper on Clarinet ? He played on my album I did with Billy May in 1990 Billy's last.
I loved that album of yours. Played it on the air at WSIE-FM in St. Louis where I did some volunteer dj work back in about 2003. June was my aunt and Coop a real favorite of mine as a youth. Fabulous guy.
An era when there was no lyp synching.
Be still my foolish heart! What a dish!
Never mind.
Does anyone know if that's Bob Cooper in the band? He's our lead singer's 2nd cousin.
No problem. If it helps ;)
No problem, Ahmed.
...and "Apple Pan Dowdy"
I love Ella.....but June was IT.
Can anyone identify the members of the Ernie Felice Quartet?
Befor 12 years -_-
It doesn't get more laidback, does it?
日本人いない?
Lil lame in da brain, isn't he?
Its a man in drag. Look closely.
