Back in 59, the critics pan Dinah Washington for selling out to the pop culture gentry, But for me, I'm so forever grateful, that is especially true with the album, What A Difference A Day Makes... I know this is Dinah! However, since she is singing a tribute to Bessie Smith, it is hard to not think about Bessie Smith's death. Bessie and her common law husband were in a auto accident. Apparently, an ambulance from a white hospital and an ambulance from a black hospital were sent to the scene of the accident. The details are a bit confusing with Wikipedia. However, Bessie's right arm was amputated and she died the following morning without ever gaining consciousness in September of 1937. I believe the article was trying to emphasize that there was a slow rescue response for Bessie and the others involved in two different accidents. I think the slow response brought on Bessie's death. What I found to be the most tragic part of Bessie's death was that she laid in an unmarked grave for 33 years before Janis Joplin--YES, Janis Joplin--and a lady, who worked for Bessie by cleaning her house every now and then when she was a little girl, paid for Bessie's tombstone in August of 1970. I still do not understand why Bessie's family members did not save and buy Bessie a tombstone. I do not understand!!! If you go and listen to Bessie Smith's works, on one of Bessie Smith's songs, a great niece brags about how Bessie was her great aunt and "thanks everyone" for keeping her memory alive. How can that great niece's family leave Bessie in an unmarked grave for so long?!!! An unmarked grave was very common for slaves. However, Bessie was a free woman. I feel the family had an obligation--no matter what the cost--to bury her with a tombstone. I thought blood was thicker than water.

What a nice surprise to see that so many fans want a movie on Dinah. You can help by showing Hollywood there is a fan base for her still. Please follow any of her social media profiles. Instagram: @thedinahwashington, Facebook: Dinah Washington Project and Twitter: @dinahwasbiopic. The producers and Dinah's family thank you!

The band arrangement's on these old records are gold, a lost craft . Where do you get original chord charts for this stuff ?? Nowdays any more than 2 modulations is like learning math or something

it´s "handmade" music, played by very good musicians, representing the style of the beginning fifties (the accordion!), transporting a lot of happy emotions. It surely is popular music of a past time, but in this it´s perfect
