The year is 1951. I am a senior in high school and in love all the time! Oft times Saturday night would find me a the top of Mulholland Drive overlooking the twinkling lights of the San Fernando Valley canoodling with my current love affair listening to Music Until Dawn, "Brought to you by American Airlines." I knew it was time to go home when they played the last song of the night at midnight, "Dream," by the Pied Pipers, still a song I love to listen to. I actually had a lot of favorites from the 40's era that was not my era like Doris Day,Sinatra, Dean Martin,Perry Como,Nat King Cole,Ella Fitzgerald. and Jo Stafford.
Nothing like close harmony. Even better when it is a capella, and preferably a Barbershop arrangement. Then the angels sing. It is amazing when 4 people sing 6 notes simultaneously.

Memories of driving through Malibu Canyon on a summers twilight, feeling the soft scent of the ocean breeze and seeing your smile that “lights up the night”, gives a gentle nudge to the clouds as they chase the setting sun in the distant horizon, pulling up the covers on another day…

I was stationed at Travis AFB, CA and almost every night I would listen to The Lucky Lager Dance Time and the announcer always played this at the close. The older I grow, with everyone dead in the family, the more sweet relevance I attach to this magical song by the Pied Pipers…I wonder if any of the original group are still alive…how wonderfully soothing are their voices, and instantly can carry us back to a less threatening time in our lives…
Great song, Such class personified by musicians & vocalists don't think they even come close. Very glad to have opportunity to see & hear it at the same time. Thanks for placing it here
I am 69 years old and while it was clearly not my era I love the Pied Pipers. This song and many others are great songs like Mam'selle and It started all over again. Then You have I'll never smile again where the Pied Pipers are with Sinatra. Any era with Sinatra,Dean Martin,Perry Como,Marion Hutton,Genn Miller,Doris and Judy Garland is an era filled with great talent. Sinatra is the only person from this era I saw live. Jo Stafford was great. I feel pushed back in history when I hear Stafford sing Long ago and far away.
Johnny Mercer was a God kiss to the likes of us. Songs written for you and I. This song was the closing song for Stan's Drive-Inn in Fresno when I was a teenage dragging the main. I send this song when there is a passing of a friend or classmate to the family. It always bring a tear to my eyes.
Johnny originally wrote "Dream" as the closing song for the NBC early evening radio show "Johnny Mercer's Music Shop" , a daily M-F 15 minute radio show that aired live during the summer months into early fall of 1944. Johnny was encouraged by musical director, Paul Weston to write lyrics to Mercer's original tune . The lyrics were written with the program's sponsor, Chesterfield Cigarettes in mind!

I can’t explain it, but the lyric beauty of their soft voices and musicians, echoes feelings of summer dances with Jeannie Cox in my arms gliding across the floor….
Back when music was really music. I play big band music around my house especially when my grand kids are here. I want them to hear GOOD music. They seem to enjoy it (age 18 months to 15 years)
That's great to hear. My dad exposed me and my brothers to this music, and I'm grateful him for it.
That's awesome! Good for you!!
To a heart so kind, this song enchants and leaves me in a bliss of a better yesterday.
Wonderful talent. Pure and simple. I love that wonderful style of harmonizing during the 1930s thru the 1950s. Takes me instantly back to a better/nicer time and place.
a time when popular music was good and good music was popular.written by jazzz writer gene lees.
This music is timeless!
I was stationed at Travis AFB, CA and almost every night I would listen to The Lucky Lager Dance Time and the announcer always played this at the close. I didn't know about happy smoke, drive-by shootings and you could walk down Market St without fear. Those kind of times have gone forever. When Jo Stafford was with the P/P they recorded it and I think that was it. No one called me DUDE. hambone

Beautiful, speechless and honored to hear this song👨💼
I had to pause it to get over how good this is. MAN do I wish I had people I could sing this with
The older I grow, with everyone dead in the family, the more sweet relevance I attach to this magical song by the Pied Pipers…I wonder if any of the original group are still alive…how wonderfully soothing are their voices, and instantly can carry us back to a less threatening time in our lives…
I think the only surviving member of the Big Band era as of 2024 is Ray Anthony from Glenn Miller Orchestra.....102 years old!
Great song, Such class personified by musicians & vocalists
don't think they even come close. Very glad to have opportunity to see & hear it at the same time. Thanks for placing it here
Brings to mind the poetic phrase, “ a thing of beauty is a joy forever.”
this definitely gives me dream vibes, I love it
I am 69 years old and while it was clearly not my era I love the Pied Pipers.
NHKで放送している中井貴一のサラメシで見つけました。かなり泣けます。
故人を偲びたい時に聴いて下さい。
abnormally beatiful
I can't believe I have a feeling that I miss those days 😂
I was not even born at that time
But still, feels nostelgia
ive been looking for a live performance of this song to learn from. most tabs are incorrect or allmost close to the mark. but this has the original guitar cords being played, to a 30yr guitar player this is gold.
Love this version of Dream.
Beautiful 💞 Feels like I miss things I haven't even experienced yet! ❤ Lovely!
I see swaying palm trees, tropical breezes ... my hair filled with the soft sent of the ocean as I walk along a deserted beach.. That's what music of today is missing.nostagia..
You portray such a beautiful ocean picture, I can feel the sweet scent of the palms and ocean, all that is missing-is YOU….
And having you in my arms as walk and feel the sand under our feet, and see the last pastel colors of pink and lavender, as the sun settles into a distant ocean….❤️🩹
The favourite piece of music of legendary Hollywood actor, James Stewart,
