    I grew up not just eating tortillas but watching my mother make them from an early age. A tortilla is something I find hard to live without. Your recipe is the closest to the texture and taste that I have tried that are Keto friendly. Some of the other recipes are either too eggy or brittle. I’ve done your recipe twice. In the effort to get closer to my mother’s recipe I added a tablespoon of cream cheese, (that I melted in the microwave) and a quarter teaspoon of baking powder. My seasonings are onion powder and garlic and I use tallow to grill them with. The cream cheese seemed to make the dough a little silkier and easier to keep round when I rolled them out. Thank you for this recipe. Because I would still be searching. These tortillas hit the spot.

      This is probably the simplest roti/tortilla recipe I've found, and looks great! I want to try it, but how much does it taste like coconut? I'm not a fan of that flavor. I mostly use almond flour recipes.

    • @TraveisaBlue
      @TraveisaBlue 5 років тому +8

      C. E. DeAllen , I don’t have an issue with coconut flour, but you can easily switch out the flour for almond. I like Sonal’s recipe because the tortillas stay flexible and don’t taste eggy. I’ve seen other recipes that use flax seed meal, but again when they get wet with sauce they tend to dissolve. Maybe Sonal has a tip on that, cause I don’t know the ratios. I have turned one almond flour tortilla recipe into crackers.

    • @SonalsFood
      @SonalsFood  5 років тому +7

      To me it doesn't taste of coconut. Also it helps that I eat it with curries which mask any flavour. @@Z.DeAllen

    Okay UA-camrs I tried Sonal's recipe. It went really well and the Roti's came out fantastic. I did make slight adjustments to the recipe as follows:
    1 cup coconut flour
    2 tablespoons of psyllium husk
    1/4 teaspoon of salt
    1 tablespoon butter
    1 cup warm water.
    Mix the flour, psyllium husk and salt well. Add butter and mix. Finally, add warm water and knead the dough and then let it sit for 10 minutes. I've also tried scallions and kalonji (onion seeds) and that also turned out fantastic.

      I made this and it came out great except that they turned a blue-grey colour - like a blueberry pancake. Is that normal? In the video Sonal's didn't look blue? I followed the recipe exactly, do you think adding a teaspoon of lemon juice will counter the blue colour?

    So, over the course of 1.5 weeks I have tried 2 other "flat breads" before this one. 1 used eggs, almond flour and xanthan gum. It was more of a tortilla due to the seasoning. It was okay but I did not like the texture or the weird after taste.
    Then I tried 1 that was similiar to this but it called for more husk and they used oil instead of butter. I hated it and hated that I wasted my husk and almond flour and olive oil !! Googy, rubbery and nasty.
    Then there's this.....OMG they are so bombbbb!!!! I love it I love it I love it. 3 simple ingredients and no eggs. Girl you're a life saver. I made some chicken wraps and these taste better than than real torillas. Could be the coconut ? Love it. Thank you.

    I have made this several times now with some slight variations and it is terrific. I like it more than any wheat based plain roti or tortilla I've ever had. It's very soft and pliable and neutral in flavour. I've made it by adding nutritional yeast for b vitamins, onion powder, garlic powder, turmeric and pepper etc. All turned out wonderfully. Thanks for this recipe Sonal!

    Thank you so much Sonal! Your recipe is heaven sent! I have been trying forever to get a keto recipe for flatbread that is easy and one that I dont get tired of, your flatbread hit the mark. This is the first keto bread that I have made with coconut flour that I actually like the taste of, and I do not do well with nut flours, so this recipe is so extra special, I love to make naan / flat bread pizza's, these will be so tasty, I cant wait to make them.

      You don't have to buy coconut flour, because duh.. It's expensive as hell ik. I am on keto too and i make my own coconut flour. Just buy coconuts which shouldn't cost you more than 100rs and you'll get a good amount of flour, at home!!

    Greetings... So grateful for your healthy coconut flat bread. I am in the process of healing my body naturally from Type 2 Diabetes and this recipe is right on time. I prayed 4 a bread recipe that wouldn't spike my blood... I wanted u to know that I added a little turmeric for health benefits and color... a smidgen of garlic powder and a slap of dried parsley flakes... so good... omg good... Lol good : ) Again, I am so grateful to you... Shalom!

    These are actually very hard to make and are very hard to work with since they break easily. I would recommend making them thicker at the beginning and let them cook on medium until it becomes dry enough to roll it over. You can also add fried onions or onion powder and cumin seeds if you do not like the coco-nutty flavour.

    • @SonalsFood
      @SonalsFood  5 років тому +1

      If your rotis are breaking when you roll them, maybe you can reduce the water a bit or increase the psyllium husk, I am guessing.

    Sonal, you solved my family's search for the perfect keto tortillas! I am sending big hugs here! It has been so hard to find a bendable, pliable, yet sturdy low carb option for this - and I am not good at creating recipes. This is so easy, simple, and it doesn't taste like coconut at all! My husband, I, and our young son all were instant fans of our first time to try it last night with dinner. Thank you so, so much!
