I was 19 and ended up singing background on a Roberta Flack session and Luther Vandross was singing with us. I was mentored by Roberta in the control room as she was showing me the recording console and isolated the various instruments on the record "You Are My Heaven" I love her spirit ❤
It’s behind the music stories like this that matter. I have read and heard so many wonderful stories about Ms. Flack. Like this one you’ve shared. The mentoring, and sharing of skill. Her wanting to teach the next ones the art and the craft behind the music. I don’t know her but I just love her because she seems like just a good, kind, and decent human being who loves what she does and wants to share it with the world. You hear it in her music and when she talks about life itself. 🤗💜💫✨
The times I heard her sing in a supper club not know she would become so famous from N.C. to D.C. to N.Y. to Cali and all over the world you go girl I pray for your health.❤❤

An absolutely beautiful woman....not to mention the texture of her extraordinary voice. I'm a 61 year old man who has loved this woman since the very early 70s. Thanks for this, and good health to one and all!!
When "Killing Me Softly" became a song of the year 1973, I was 8. Imagine how deeply Roberta Fleck's voice has grabbed me, that even now, for me, her voice embodies the entire decade of the 1970s! I love you, Roberta!!!

The dynamic duo Roberta Flack & Donny Hathaway sing about love like they know it all to well! Just listen to the first of their labor absolutely EXQUISITE!
My best friend, Peter Lewis , did the live sound engineering for Roberta in Japan during the later 90's. Peter was with Natalie Cole's "Unforgettable Tour" prior to joining Roberta in Japan. When she came to LA to perform & play at The Greek theater, I attended as Peter's guest and met Roberta after the concert back stage. I had played the same clubs in Washington DC in the summer of 1969 as she did...Mr Henry's in Georgetown and on Capitol Hill. She is as sweet as the sound of her delightfully engaging music.
My sincerest compliments to your best friend Peter Lewis. He obviously did an amazing job. It’s always wonderful to hear that the people you admire and love happen to be wonderful human beings as well. Roberta Flack is a once in a lifetime artist and her music has been with me my entire life. Thank you so much for sharing your experience with her to the whole world.
Peter Lewis was my hang buddy on the road when we toured with Roberta❣️ He was a great engineer who mixed his ass off and is responsible for my percussion set up having 10 mics so all my stuff could be heard! I have a picture of him, myself, and Patti Lupone together backstage somewhere which I treasure knowing that Peter is no longer with us! RIP my friend. I really miss our hang time❗️ Much Love Always❣️ 🎶Gary✨🌈🙏🏽😇
Saw her at Avery Fisher Hall in NY when the Oasis album dropped. Roberta Flack has a smooth velvety, sultry voice that is hard to describe. She soars and glides through her vocals and instrumentals never sounding pushed, harsh, or terse. The song she opened this show with is a perfect introduction to her talents. Her voice has a natural echo that is unlike any of her contemporaries and her vocal quality is equal parts songstress and lyrical narrator. I've seen a lot of performances over the years. Roberta is polished, classy, elegant, and timeless. These are priceless and genuine qualities that are almost non-existent in contemporary popular music genres.
She is amazing !!! First Take album with Ron Carter on bass...the best, and incredible live performance with a top band, with a class in extreme dynamics..
She is as pure of a top singer artist that we are so lucky to enjoy and cherish! Her voice makes my heart melt and you can feel her love! So happy I found this concert, thank you so much!!! Amazing!
Awhh, WOW ! This is feels so GOOD ! I grew up on Roberta Flack. My mother sang just like her. This brings back so many beautiful memories. Blue Lights In The Basement, Chapter Two, First Take, Killing Me Softly,Roberta Flack and Peobo Bryson, all the Roberta Flack and Donny Hathaway songs ..Her voice is timeless. Still the same, Rich and Pure.. Thank you for sharing.❤❤🙏😃

Winner of four Grammy Awards, the 85-year-old singer is known for "Killing me softly with his song", "The Closer I Get To You", "Set the Night to Music", "Tonight I celebrate my love" and several other hits. Roberta Flack, legendary American singer, announced a diagnosis of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS). The statement does not specify when they arrived at the diagnosis. Winner of four Grammy Awards in the 1970s, she was known for hit songs such as the one written by Charles Fox and Norman Gimbel and "The first time ever I saw your face". Mr. Fritz, I hope you are doing well. I live in NW Georgia, and I'm really getting into Donny Hathaway now, which, of course has led me to Roberta Flack. Great performance on this concert, by the way. If you feel like answering, I have 3 questions. Did Ms. Flack tell you any good stories about Hathaway? Second, do you know fellow percussionist Earl DeRouen? And one more, have you ever played with Willie Weeks? Those live Donny Hathaway recordings are some of the best I've ever heard. And he and Flack were just the best duo. I just listened to their first duets album today and it is mesmerizing. Anyway, take care and best wishes.
I was at this concert. It was one of a series of concerts held in Japan. The concerts were all beautiful and lavishly appointed. It was great to offer my friends in the backing band, Gary, Buddy, Eugene and others, the hospitality of my host country. Thank you again Ms. Flack for such a wonderful tour. -Marvin J. Miller
I sure love Ms Flack and her music, I was first turned onto her music in the 70s when I was in college right after I got out of the army after serving a tour in Vietnam
