ROBERTA FLACK is a force of nature beyond description!!!! WE LOVE YOU ROBERTA FLACK!!!! LUTHER VANDROSS is missed, and will never be replaced!!! I love LUTHER'S work with the group CHANGE! BOTH LUTHER and ROBERTA are timeless icons! THANK YOU REELBLACK for sharing this archive.
This was before that never to much Luther amazing to see him before his debut album and the amazingly talented Peabo sounding like his records this was a great find.🙂
1st Time watching i was a kid when this was out I Miss Donny hathaway But Peabo Bryson did Great I LOve You Roberta Flack Awesome concert God bless Y'all i'm a watch it Again Again Again & Again
I wish you guys had Peabo Bryson solo performance from this concert,They release their live album from the same year-Roberta Flack and Peabo Bryson Live and More
So refreshing to see a legendary artist like Roberta Flack focus on musicality during a live performance. And Luther gave us a lil something-something on Feel Like Makin’ Love ❤️
My Gram was a huge fan of Ms. Flack, as well as Peabo Bryson. I remember her going to see this tour when they came here to Cleveland at the Front Row. After the concert she bought the live album. It is still one of my absolute favorite live albums and that was the album that made me a fan of Roberta Flack back in 1980 when I was 7. Now, having seen this live performance here on video (and having seen her in concert myself before), I have much respect for and the way she puts together a show. Love to see her direct the band. I also love to hear the care she puts into her vocals and just the lyrics of her music in general. Ms. Flack really doesn’t get enough flowers and deserves them all.
Thank u...I too have the double live LP from this tour. Ms Flack is an exceptional singer/musician & has had some of the baddest musicians & singers working with her...not only Luther but Marcus, Mtume, Deniece etc. A true Legend ♥️🙏🏿
I remember when I couldn't wait to go get her album, First Take. I would lay in my bed at night and just listen to her voice and the words amazing. It was a different time in America I loved every minute.
@@detroitbuffalo lol this is a younger Marcus still trying to find his style he was trying to emulate Jaco too...if u listen to his work with Lenny White in the late 70s and with Miles Davis early 80s this is exactly how he sounded ..he said he was in Roberta Flacks band around 1979-1980 thats how he met Luthor and they both got fired around the same time Roberta said Marcus and Luthor both were too good to be in her band and a year later Marcus was playing with Miles Davis in, 1981
@@Jason5818UI You've got to listen to that double album that Peabo and Roberta did at that time, which is basically this same concert. Marcus was in the band and he sounded nothing like this. He sounded exactly how he sounded on the early GRP records (Tom Browne, Bobby Broom, etc ).
This takes me back to a period where ... I know they are smiling at me wherever they are, rest in peace Montseng, I love you sis, rest in peace grandma, forever in my heart 🇿🇦
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame should be ashamed of themselves for not inducting Ms. Roberta flack for her 50 + years and the music industry but they're quick to put Eminem in the Hall of Fame and not her.
Crazy how many artists are not in there. Ms. Flack is definitely deserving not only for her singing, but her musicianship, songwriting, mentorship, and producing.
Ah! To be 10 years old again. Mommy had this on Cassette and vinyl. This was the first time I heard of Donny Hathaway. And I could not wrap my head around the fact he was gone when they pumped You Are My Heaven on the radio. I was sad and just loved his voice with Roberta. They seemed meant to be. Did y'all see LUTHER?😭❤️❤️❤️❤️
Wow!!Brings back so many memories.I was 9 years old when I heard the death of Mr.Donny Hathaway.I grew up in Washington dc and attened church were our Youth Pastor was a student at Howard University. He had known Mr.Donny Hathaway during this time.I recall the day he announced his passing on the microphone. As a kid my comprehension at that time was Mr.Donny Hathaway had fallen.I didnt realize it was in deed suicide(deliberate). So very tragic and sad.
She said she didn’t “fire” him, but rather advised and encouraged him that it was time for him to go solo after hearing his demos of “Never Too Much” and “A House is Not a Home”. She was the one who helped him get a record deal.
My NUMBER ONE FAVORITE…I could tell y’all some stories about wishing to go to one of concerts…I was like 10!!! When I went to college and found out she pledged Delta at Howard, I was determined to pledge…I love me some Roberta Flack!!!
Wonderful!!! I have the live album performed by Peabo and Roberta in Gary, Indiana. I wish that was on video! Dig in the vault for that concert. You won't be sorry! The duo of Roberta and Peabo could not be matched. Peabo knocked every song he did out of the park. You had to listen to his singing style. Mesmerizing! Luther's voice as background singer on "Creep in My Dreams and Only Heaven Can Wait" on that particular mentioned album could not be missed. Roberta was one of the best composers, musicians, and vocalists. That's real talent. Thanks for the 'load'.
There is an audio version of that concert on UA-cam but no video. Wish there were. Don’t know if there is a televised version. I keep saying THAT was the show they should have televised.
And this is where Roberta would let Luther go after this performance. He was getting too comfortable as a backup singer, and BOOM! Six months later _Never Too Much_ dropped and the rest is history. #RIPLutherVandross
Somebody screwed up with the title graphics on the first song. The title of the song is: "God Don't Like Ugly" - NOT angry! And the closing credits listed everyone EXCEPT the band members and backup vocalists!
Yes. And she wears her natural hair in many styles. Love it. 🤗 Don’t forget Patrice Rushen and Valerie Simpson. And Aretha wore natural hairstyles sometimes also. She didn’t always wear wigs. Sometimes she wore her natural Afro or a press and curl.
With the release of her documentary, they REALLY should consider: Releasing ALL of her concerts on DVD /Streaming. Making sure all of her music is available on DVD/Vinyl/streaming
Wish I was back in the 80's with the maturity of today. I would have make different choices. Great times and might be even the best times ever....

Also, Brenda White singing backgrounds with Luther. She features as a background singer on Luther's solo albums.
Another home run! Thank you!

Wow ! Excellent Video. of this concert !❤💛💙
Bass player killing it❤️Luther Vandross 🎸as a back up singer!!!!!! 😳😳😳😳
im about 90% sure thats a young marcus miller ..bass legend

Roberta Flack, she is amazingly beautiful 🥰🔥🔝👑✔️. Powerful Songs & you deliver well ❤️🔥✨
Wow LOVE This.
Back together again expresses exactly how some relationships ride.
Yep. And also “Only Heaven Can Wait”
I love this video
Thanks see much for this. Used to listen to my aunt’s Roberta Flack albums on the weekends when I was a kid. Such a smooth, sultry voice!

Agreed!
Peabo bryson such perfect placed voice!!! But I think here luther was just one of her background vocals at the moment.

Outstanding performance!!❤
Donny Hathaway would have died the year before (1979). Wouldn't it have been cool to have seen him singing in 1980 with Flack?
Oh yes, they made a classic album together!
Thank you, Reelblack for this sweet memories. Continue doing what you do!
Thank you so much,I LOVE LOVE LOVE Roberta Flack,Peabo,And Luther in the background.NO ONE COMPARES,THIS IS AWESOME!!!!!!!!
I really enjoyed this concert! My favorite song, "I Feel Like Making Love"
I love Roberta Flack voice, when I have anxiety, I play her on repeat.
Roberta is dynamic..
Y e s!!!👏👏👏
I heard Roberta Flack “fired” Luther because she knew he he should he was ready, even tho he wasn’t confident to go solo
She said she didn’t “fire” him, but rather advised and encouraged him that it was time for him to go solo after hearing his demos of “Never Too Much” and “A House is Not a Home”. She was the one who helped him get a record deal.
Praying for total healing to a great performer and a great woman and the mighty name of Jesus Christ Roberta Flack better than the best poetry woman😊

And she is such the definition of a DELTA Woman. 🤗❤️💫✨
Omg I was 4 years old when they performed this😱 this is so amazing to see now💕

And this is where Roberta would let Luther go after this performance. He was getting too comfortable as a backup singer, and BOOM! Six months later _Never Too Much_ dropped and the rest is history. #RIPLutherVandross
It was really Dionbe Warwick who pushed him into going as a solo artist
