The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame should be ashamed of themselves for not inducting Ms. Roberta flack for her 50 + years and the music industry but they're quick to put Eminem in the Hall of Fame and not her.
Crazy how many artists are not in there. Ms. Flack is definitely deserving not only for her singing, but her musicianship, songwriting, mentorship, and producing.
ROBERTA FLACK is a force of nature beyond description!!!! WE LOVE YOU ROBERTA FLACK!!!! LUTHER VANDROSS is missed, and will never be replaced!!! I love LUTHER'S work with the group CHANGE! BOTH LUTHER and ROBERTA are timeless icons! THANK YOU REELBLACK for sharing this archive.

This was an Arts & Entertainment special. Filmed at the Ontario Place stage in the round, which I was so happy to be in the audience.

I heard Roberta Flack “fired” Luther because she knew he he should he was ready, even tho he wasn’t confident to go solo
She said she didn’t “fire” him, but rather advised and encouraged him that it was time for him to go solo after hearing his demos of “Never Too Much” and “A House is Not a Home”. She was the one who helped him get a record deal.

My Gram was a huge fan of Ms. Flack, as well as Peabo Bryson. I remember her going to see this tour when they came here to Cleveland at the Front Row. After the concert she bought the live album. It is still one of my absolute favorite live albums and that was the album that made me a fan of Roberta Flack back in 1980 when I was 7.
Now, having seen this live performance here on video (and having seen her in concert myself before), I have much respect for and the way she puts together a show. Love to see her direct the band. I also love to hear the care she puts into her vocals and just the lyrics of her music in general. Ms. Flack really doesn’t get enough flowers and deserves them all.

I remember when I couldn't wait to go get her album, First Take.
I would lay in my bed at night and just listen to her voice and the words amazing. It was a different time in America I loved every minute.
Ah! To be 10 years old again. Mommy had this on Cassette and vinyl. This was the first time I heard of Donny Hathaway. And I could not wrap my head around the fact he was gone when they pumped You Are My Heaven on the radio. I was sad and just loved his voice with Roberta. They seemed meant to be. Wow!!Brings back so many memories.I was 9 years old when I heard the death of Mr.Donny Hathaway.I grew up in Washington dc and attened church were our Youth Pastor was a student at Howard University.He had known Mr.Donny Hathaway during this time.I recall the day he announced his passing on the microphone.As a kid my comprehension at that time was Mr.Donny Hathaway had fallen.I didnt realize it was in deed suicide(deliberate).So very tragic and sad.

@@detroitbuffalo lol this is a younger Marcus still trying to find his style he was trying to emulate Jaco too...if u listen to his work with Lenny White in the late 70s and with Miles Davis early 80s this is exactly how he sounded ..he said he was in Roberta Flacks band around 1979-1980 thats how he met Luthor and they both got fired around the same time Roberta said Marcus and Luthor both were too good to be in her band and a year later Marcus was playing with Miles Davis in, 1981
@@jasonhearn5818 You've got to listen to that double album that Peabo and Roberta did at that time, which is basically this same concert. Marcus was in the band and he sounded nothing like this. He sounded exactly how he sounded on the early GRP records (Tom Browne, Bobby Broom, etc ).

quick story....I'll nutshell it. When I was a junior in HS, my immediate family and me, took a road trip from Columbia, MD where we lived to NYC, to tour the city, so to speak, in celebration of my little sister's birth. We stopped off at Trump Plaza Hotel/Casino, to hang out in Atlantic City for a day, on our way to NY....there we are in the restaurant, when a woman appeared out of nowhere, dressed in white with a silk scarf on her head, and these big Jackie O-type shades. As she was greeting my family, I got up real fast to go pee. So, I come back to the table and my Mom says "Laurence, guess who this is?"...
my whole family knew I was a music buff. So all it took was one glance at this lady smiling at me, and I go "Oh, man!...Roberta Flack?...GET OUT OF FHERE!"...she started laughing. And she said "have a seat, handsome...I just dropped off to see who this beautiful family was". My stepfather was not a social butterfly at all...but my Mom is. So, her and Ms Flack chatted for a few more minutes. Come to find out, Roberta was performing there at the Casino that weekend. It wasn't until the next day, that it hit me...that one of the great vocalists of our times, took some time out of her day to hang out with our family. I was a fan BEFORE she sat down...and Ive been a lifelong fan since then.
