Thanks for this video Chad. Hot lime mortars seems so arcane, especially here in North America. I experimented last year with trying to plaster part of my stone basement wall with 2.5/1 hot lime and sand, it was reasonably successful. It was surprisingly difficult to source the quicklime here in Canada. I'm definitely going to try this method with my remaining quicklime.
Thank you Chad for this great series... but please don't touch it with your bare hands.... if you even had a bit of sweat oh your hands !!!... well... you can see what would happen on your hand.... I have also heard stories about those who have inhaled it and it's deadly.
For Brick I think it is 1 1/8 bbls. of lime and 3/4 yard of sand, for stone 1 1/4 bbls. of lime and 1 yard of sand. That should lay you 1000 common brick and 100 cubit ft. of stone wall.
I have no idea what I’m talking about but I did see a program from England that was about a castle they were re creating in France, they slaked the line without the sand to make lime putty and then used it to make the mortar and I think it took a day or 2 to make a batch. This was it I think ua-cam.com/video/9UNOJh_UEE8/v-deo.htmlsi=umiqTQ_y-a-e5D6r
