Lmao "if you really want to hurt a comedian don't laugh at his jokes". That's the best argument I've heard for this debacle.
There's one thing even worse for a comedian than a silent audience: a heckling audience. An audience that calls out the bad jokes for being bad jokes.
@@matthewmuir8884 no I think a silent audience is worse than a heckler. With a heckler, a comedian can take what they shouted out and turn it around to revive the rest of the audience. With a silent audience, the comedian got nothing, and as you saw in the difference between's Stephen's at home and studio shows, comedians needs the feedback input of the audience to thrive.
@@gamepapa1211 depends on the comedian and the heckler.
@@gamepapa1211 I see your point. …Perhaps the best answer would be that a silent audience is the worst thing for a good comedian, and a heckler is the worst thing for a bad comedian (i.e. one that can't use what the heckler says and instead lets the heckler's criticisms get under their skin)?
Every comedian heckled or encountered silent audience. Itsnothing new. Bill Burr, Ricky Gervais, all lived it.
the worst part about this stupid slap is that I'll have to hear about it for the next 6 months

Chris Rock made an entire documentary on how African women are dehumanized for not having the right kind of hair. It’s unacceptable for him to then dehumanize her like that. It wasn’t a joke, it was bullying masking as a joke.

I believe there should be no boundaries in comedy but if anyone was going to get slapped I thought maybe Ricky Gervais at the Golden Globes.
The Academy has allowed rude humor for years, Chris Rock's comment wasn't particularly out of bounds.
Ricky Gervais deserves our eternal gratitude for boldly telling Hollywood exactly who they are.
I meant that I expected it more with the Ricky Gervais/ Mel Gibson jokes during the Golden Globes. It wouldn’t seem like a stretch for Mel Gibson to react aggressively, didn’t expect it from Will Smith. I think Ricky Gervais is hilarious btw.

I’ll love to introduce you to a legit company were you can earn huge profit in just few hours
channeling an american john oliver... : ) !
But actually reciting the lyrics of going to miami sent it over the top for me i died...ok im back
@@OneWaY2BHandy I like your resilience.
That Ass Jamboree skit was GOLD!
The max, that made me laugh so hard. Just made my day.
WS should slap himself first for laughing at the joke
The audience giving Will Smith a standing ovation was shocking. They basically approved of what Will did.
No they did so because of his performance not the smacking.
That's right, shows the conformist social psychology of human primates. The evil of masses following a powerful man can be unleashed by exactly such behavior.
They accept violence 🤔next time grab your gun? Smith lucky someone else may not have taken a slap and laid him out. Hands off people great way to teach kids who were watching?
If you're there you'd have to stand and clap too, it's a survival instinct, are you crazy? You've seen what Will Smith can do in "Hancock", he could've murdered everyone in there if they didn't stand and clap!
They were probably afraid not to.
Good job!!! Love
Love the Grassley impression 😂
Chris Rock. Much respect.
Imagine if it was Rikcy Gervais or Jimmy Carr doing the monologue? also, if Will was any other guy, he wouldve been kicked out of the show and charged with assault.
They were thinking about it.
Exactly!!
Ricky eould have doubled down. he does not kiss hollywood ass.
You do get that the person being assaulted is the one "pressing charges". Learn the law America.
Lets take the fame out of the equation, lets say Rock was just some dude passing by Wills house stopped saw Jada yelled that out and then got smacked for it, Rock didn't press charges so he likely would have never called the police, even if the police were called he still didn't press charges meaning Will wouldn't have been charged with assault because no charges were pressed... If will were "any other guy" the same outcome would have happened...
Man Stephen is back baby. The funniest I've seen him in a while. Had me laughing the whole time. 😂
Never disappointing!👍
Imagine if it was someone not so popular as will, did this.... They would be detained right away and prosecuted.
Such kind of two faced treatment hurts the most.
Note to self: Before I get to commit assault and battery on national television, I need to get rich and famous.
Imagine if a female comedienne told that joke. They all (including Jada) would be cheering and take it as something uplifting or empowering females for their 'bravery' - you know being out and about with no hair, no wig. Sheesh!!

@@MTMF.london Imagine if a situation happened that made you angry, and people reacted in a hypocritical way. Wow! Those imaginary people are such hypocrites! Sheesh!!
@@MTMF.london And just imagine if there was a unicorn on stage and a rhinoceros ran up and killed it. Why the f*** would you bring up something that didn't happen.
Chris was definitely a class act. The Academy dropped the ball and should have kicked him out. Instead they only proved that rules don’t apply to the rich and famous.
Why didn’t anyone stop him before he did that
Will's slap was the wrong response... but are the Oscars really the place to be levelling insult "comedy" at folks?
Between Chris making fun of someone with a disease who's struggling to deal with the symptoms in a dignified manner and Amy going out of her way to insult an actress whose career is three times longer than hers (and whose movies will be remembered far longer than anything Amy's ever done,) it seemed like last night's show was a clusterfudge of terrible choices all around.
if any of us did what Will did, slapping a presenter on stage aynwhere in the land even without cameras, we would get arrested.
@@guerillagrueplays6301 They let Ricky Gervais get away with a whole lot and no one hit him. Although some stuff he said was way worse.
Agreed. The academy should have thrown him out. Instead, they decided to reward BAD BEHAVIOR!! 👹👹
this was damn hilarious, nice job Colbert
Appreciate Learn to Fly at the end there RIP Taylor
Somehow, the "is potato" jokes are still making me laugh. Keep them coming.
Same I swear 😂
it has become an inside joke between me and my 11 year old son. This joke is legitimately helping families.
i know right? 😹
That's because Old Russia and now the new return to the old Russia is the plainest, most boring, and repressed society that now has nothing.
It's interesting because Russia reportedly imports close to 90% of seed potato annually, but with all that's going on this joke could age sooner than you think. "WAS potato..."
what needs to be remembered is David Niven's brilliant response to the streaking "Someone just displayed his obvious shortcomings" or something to that effect.
Niven was quicker on his feet than the streaker.
The dobby comparison killed me 🤣
I love it when steve put on those dark glasses, its going be on.
Will Smith was originally laughing at the joke until he saw how his wife was taking it
Yup, that he was 😂
His wife was taking it? Huh... I didn't see August there.
Say's a lot about their situation and how he's handling it! That was a performance of a man on the edge. I found the shouting more disturbing, psychologically.
Funny how his wife can take many things except a joke.
Lol exactly
"It is never okay to punch a comedian". 👏👏👏👏👏👏👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Well said, Mr Colbert!
but to punch a guys face by making joke abt ur wife is okay bro and that is wht real men do
Nah, wait till you grow up and have a kid and wife, and some dude just make a joke about your wife medical condition. Dude was man enough to walk up and slap that comedian.
I'm disappointed Will SLAPPED Chris. Chris handled the situation very well. Women particularly black & hispanic women who have the most risk of getting alopethia ( not sure I spelled it right) have been judged on their looks & particularly their hairstyles for years. So much so a bill
is in congress ( it might have passed & become a law by now) to have no discrimination against hairstyles. I know Chris & Jada are both black but not everyone who laughed at first was. Could people just find something else to laugh about then a women's looks. ALL women have been judged FOR CENTURIES by OUR LOOKS & WE ARE SICK & TIRED of it!!! So yeah, I
think ( know actually) some women may not have appreciated the violent way WILL stood up for Jada ( & in the process ALL women) but they appreciate that a man was willing to in some form say ENOUGH!!! with the cheap jokes at the expense of a women's self esteem. Even Chris had to convince himself that the joke wasn't that bad by commenting before the slap." Oh, that was a nice one" so there must have been some negative vibe from the audience about the joke before Will slapped him or maybe Chris realized that it could be hurtful after he said it. I don't know but could oeople please start being KINDER to each other & try to put ourselves in someone else's shoes more often before we speak or react???
words from a comedian! lmao...
Putin: Its never okay to attack a foreign Russian leader! Priceless
🤣😂🤣😂 dawg I knew Stephen was going to make this Will Chris Slap Hilarious! Lol
Brilliant Stephen!! I loved this!! very funny and delivered perfectly . Thank you
Chris Rock deserves his last name
Agreed
Deserves 'Rock'?... 🤔
Solid
Sorry to disagree. He has always been an asshole. Do you honestly think no one has ever slapped or punched his face before?
Chris Rocked*
Kudos to Chris Rock handling the situation as a grown up man. Very disappointed and disgusted with Will Smith. Will's tearful speech is what he should get an Oscar for best acting while Chris gets my award for Most Restraind Comic in an orchard of low-hanging fruit.
This is why I respect this show, mad real!
The academy should have taken away his Oscar and made him walk away with a golden globe!
