Great and best vid created on this. One question sir, is there a way to jump from vr mode to screen mode binding one key or is there an option in the ED options? Really useful video - thanks. Just got a Quest 2 headset aI'm looking at getting a gaming PC built. Just one question: can the Oculus hand controllers be used to control the game as opposed to using the PC keyboard/mouse/separate controller? I tried ED on Xbox1 but found I had to send too long finding the right combinations of buttons on the controller to make it the great experience I remember from the days when I played it on a BBC computer.
I tried to find an end to the same question last year and it seems like there is no way to do it, unless something has changed. The only thing I can recommend you is to make use of double keys input which is very useful in ED. For example let’s say you have landing gear assigned to “L” on top of it you can assign the ship lights to let’s say “shift+L” and so on. That way you don’t need as many buttons/keys
Thank you so much for this - I am totally new Elite Dangerous and your tips have really helped! One question I have is about targeting - especially in combat. I am using an Oculus Quest so I don't know if my problem is specifically with that or not? But when I need to target something, it seems like I have to "look" at the object very, very precisely when I press the select target ahead button. This is especially challenging in combat. I can't tell if I'm doing it wrong, or there's some setting I need to change or if it's a bug?? Do you have any tips for targeting in VR? Again, thanks so much for your tips and I look forward to your future videos! *subscribed*
Thank you for watching and for the feedback. When it comes to targeting I pretty much exclusively use “next target” and “previous target” options. You can bind the keys in settings I believe is under targeting submenu
@@explorationofgames Thanks! - actually, it's possible that it might have been related to one of the graphics settings?? After I changed my settings to mostly match yours (turning off bloom, anti-aliasing, ...) The highlights around targets was much clearer but I swear it seems like it fixed more than just visibility. I could easily look at objects all over and target them easily! Strange! I went back to the training combat missions again and was easily able to target ships now?! Thanks! I also learned that when one of my panels is brought up (either the left or right panel) targeting is also non-functional - once I dismiss the panel I'm able to target - maybe that was part of my problem too??
Yes panels might be a problem for sure. Maybe you should try setting them up to come up automatically when you look at them ( i mentioned that setting in the video ) that way when you don’t look at them they close automatically
Awesome video! I’m definitely going to play this game in VR mode once my PC build is finally done. I’m hoping my I9-1090k, MSI Z490 Godlike Motherboard and RTX 2070 Super Ultra can handle it.
It definitely should, especially if you going for one of the newer VR headsets as they are actually less demanding than the older ones. And thank you for the feedback ;)
Hi, I just got an Oculus Rift CV1, and launch Elite from the stand alone launcher, without steam. I can get into 3d vr mode, but i can't seem to get game audio to come through the headset speakers. Any idea what the issue is?
It's a great guide, if you already have everything working. But for me, being a super noob in this, I would have liked a more beginners guide going from installing Elite and starting it in VR mode, or am I missing something super basic here that everybody already knows (It's happened before...)? :p

some usefull information, but im having problem with the control setup. Are you still meant to use your keyboard? Im not a touch typist and I cant see the keyboard with the headset on. how are you meant to control the thing and activate all the settings within the game?
Consider getting VoiceAttack and one of the HCS Voice Packs. These allow voice control. There's a bit of a learning curve to learning what commands will be recognized, but I got the basics pretty quickly. Some things are still faster via keyboard or HOTAS, though.
Hello I contact you because when I play elite dangerous with oculus quest 2 on steam the image and pixelated I do not see how to have a clear image please thank you
You never gonna have a picture quality like you do on monitor. However you can try play around with supersampling option. Either through game settings or oculusdebugtool

Yes galaxy map is pretty complicated in vr. Best way around it I found is to assign Xbox controller or any other controller and then assign all the Galaxy map buttons to it as a secondary key
It sounds to me like your game switches the input to something else when you connect vr. I would check if there is any other accessories connected to your PC that makes the game think you want to use them
can someone help me so when i start the game up in my cockpit seat its like im sat on the floor looking at my controls not actually in the seat will that first solution he said in the vid fix that ?
I tried many times to assign my rift controllers to different games but it seems to me you can only use them in VR only games and as far as I know there is no way to use them in any other games
@@explorationofgames ya it seems like even if I buy it from the oculus store it doesn't support touch controllers. I will just have to use a gamepad till I find a decent priced HOTAS

Hi, i'm having an issue with the VR settings, when i launch the game in VR mode, nothing is showing on my Rift S screen, just de Oculus "charging" logo ... any idea ?
If you’re talking about oculus debug tool, you get it be default after installing your oculus just check the description for the location of that file and if you installed your oculus in default folder it will be there
Im having an issue at least it feels like it... My pov in the cockpit feels too far forward. I've tried doing the reset hmd orientation. As far as I know there is a small amount of people that can never get the new vr headsets right because it consists of one screen unlike the older ones that consists of two separate screens. However I would check one thing. Start “oculus debug tool” I mentioned in the video (default location is in the description) there is a setting called “fov- tangent multiplier” it allows you to override default FOV settings, try to play around with that. Just don’t forget to reset it to default in case in didn’t work
@@explorationofgames will do I was tinkering around there prior to watching your video... changed the 150mb/s to 500... my Ed is through steam.. is the best way to run the game through steam vr ? prolly dumb quesiton I just literally never used vr.
I'm a VR Noob- I found when I move, the tracking isn't great- my head will move the whole cockpit every now an then- is that a frame rate problem? Also can you play the whole game in VR with a Xbox gamepad- or do you need to use a keyboard to get to all the functions?
It depends which headset you’re using but if it’s oculus rift s and you have a tracking problem it might be just the case of having not enough light in the room. Rift S build in camera need more light to ensure proper tracking. To check your frame rates use oculus debug tool that I mentioned in the video it will give you an overlay inside your headset and you will be able to check your frame rates. And yes you can play with Xbox gamepad just make sure to spend time assigning all the buttons and remember that elite allows double keys combination which means for example you can assign RB button with left D-pad to something else than RB button with right D-pad and so on. Hope that helps
I wish they didn’t remove cockpit shaking from vr. It’s so weird when you fly around and your ship doesn’t shake at all. Apparently they removed this because people complained about nausea. Well I at least would have liked the choice. I’ve never had motion sickness in vr, and don’t understand why I must suffer just because other people have upset stomachs. It’s stupid.
Great video. before watching this I spawned into a space station with Oculus Touch controls and immediately got shot for firing my weapons during auto launch.
I started the same way and I can safely say it’s not worth it. The amount of time I spent trying to get it to work is crazy. And when I finally made it work I can honestly say it wasn’t worth it. Just get the proper VR headset they’re getting cheaper and cheaper. Might get a good deal on Black Friday maybe
Sorry but this video not solve main problem, flickering and ladder effects,on station, planets all flickering, even if set supersampling 2.0 , I don't in vr this game look bad, I don't know how you people don't see this problem.

I tried many times to assign my rift controllers to different games but it seems to me you can only use them in VR only games and as far as I know there is no way to use them in any other games
is there a way to get the quest 2 controllers working for ED?
I tried that too and as far as I know it’s not possible unfortunately
@@explorationofgames ya it seems like even if I buy it from the oculus store it doesn't support touch controllers. I will just have to use a gamepad till I find a decent priced HOTAS
Thrustmaster 1600m I think is the model I have and it’s pretty cheap but I’ve heard logitech x52 is considered the best value for money and it’s also quite cheap
all it says for me is loading elite dangerous64 for me when i have the head set on like i cant see the game in vr how i should how do i fix
Hi, i'm having an issue with the VR settings, when i launch the game in VR mode, nothing is showing on my Rift S screen, just de Oculus "charging" logo ... any idea ?
Did you start the oculus app first ?
I have no clue what the tool is and how to get it its hard to get up as u carnt put it up as I have no clue how to search it
If you’re talking about oculus debug tool, you get it be default after installing your oculus just check the description for the location of that file and if you installed your oculus in default folder it will be there
@@explorationofgames I just left it to download and don't know where to search for the location
Does anyone know how to use the Oculus quest two default controllers in elite dangerous
It’s not possible unfortunately. There is many topics like that in many different forums and for now it’s impossible to do
I thought you were going to tell people how to get VR to work from the PC. All I get is a flat screen in my desktop room, and it's not 3D.
Im having an issue at least it feels like it... My pov in the cockpit feels too far forward. I've tried doing the reset hmd orientation. Im using quest 2 and first time using vr but all the panels are like 3 inches from my face and to look at the left or right panels I literally feel like I have to turn around in person... Its so obnoxious that I havnt even been able to play with the vr ... if I cant fix planning on returning headset. This my last shot as no one else has been able to suggest anything that works. Thanks
Is it only in Ellie dangerous or other games or apps too?
@@explorationofgames idk ive only played elite ... its the only game i play none the less... i just got the headset today... been trying to fix it for 5-6 hours.
@@explorationofgames im quite knowledgable with basic ed settings / files etc.. noob with vr .... but it feels like my fov is at like 30 in 2d ... just everything is so close to my face... far closer then what ive seen other players who use vr
edit: i havnt done this im not sure why... but removing all graphical improvments within files .. see if it does anything..
edit2: idk what headset you use but is it just me or the quest 2 sweet spot incredibily small... i have the elite strap and even buckling that thing down to my head it still cant seem to maintain the sweet spot... sure it looks good but its highly dissapointing knowning how good it looks in the sweetspot when you cannot maintain that spot.
edit3: idk if I can record ingame properly with vr but if i can would that be of any use to show you how it looks ?
Hope that helps
the problem with this game is the lack of controls, 20 years later and they haven't implemented touch controls...
:) happened to the best of us at some stage :)
I DOWNLOADED THIS IN EPIC, IT DOESNT' SAY IT SUPPORTS VR. IS THIS GOING TO WORK WITH A VR SET?
It does. It says when you go to launch it
it does! just click on the three dots options beside the game and click "launch in VR." :)
how do u have so many credits?
Been playing this game for years
My gosh there is a lot of buttons in this game
😂😂😂 I think that’s everyone’s first reaction when they start playing ED
i will be trying to do with my old fake VR using Samsung phone...so far, my effort has failed LOL...(should get a proper VR set)...
If you want a cheap way get a Oculus DK2. I use one with the game and it works for alot of sit down only games.
Sorry but this video not solve main problem, flickering and ladder effects,on station, planets all flickering, even if set supersampling 2.0 , I don't in vr this game look bad, I don't know how you people don't see this problem.
not able to enter the game.....any advice
Like at all ? Does it give you any errors ? Is it steam or epic ?
i cant even start in vr it doesnt load in steamvr
Everything works except for my mic for oculus rift s
