Hey thanks! I appreciate that! I really do enjoy Elite. I poke fun at the less-than-perfect aspects (see the "Engineering Be Like" videos), but it's still an amazing immersive game that I can't put down.
I couldn't agree more. I *started* playing Elite in VR on my old Oculus Rift. It made for a challenging start, since I was trying to simultaneously learn how to play the game and memorize how to do all of the controls by touch (including controls i didn't yet know the function of). That first entire weekend I barely undocked, flew around the station, and re-docked, but it was absolutely magical seeing this world that is previously only seen in wireframe on a Commodore 64 come to life around me in rich detail! When I looked over and saw the old Space Traders Flight Training Manual ticket into a side compartment in my Sidewinder's cockpit I knew I was home. Nowadays I mostly play in pancake mode just so I'm not completely cut off from anything happening in the house in the real world, but when when I know I have time and don't have on-foot activities planned, I put on the Quest 3 and am still blown away every time. There's nothing like it!
I have also used Oculus Rift for ED. I hate to say it, but you need to change. The HP Regen 2 for instance, ( and I didn't believe this was possible) doesn't have any bespoke software. It uses Windows mixed reality meshed with Steam and ED VR services perfectly. The colours, resolution, depth, FPS everything is better. Settings are in ED Forum. Just put in a search.
LOVE LOVE LOVE....Elite Dangerousl!! Yes your right, VR is the only way to play. New ships are coming out so hopefully they get a bump in players coming back to the game.
You missed one of the best parts of mining, the seismic charges. Instead of just using the lasers the seismic charges blow apart the asteroid with the most amazing sound and feeling in the game, highly recommend you try this method. Been using the Bigscreen Beyond for over a month (cv1 and index before) and loving Elite even more now. This is the game that got me into vr.
VR kept me playing when I was about to quit in the early days. I say a similar thing to people. Playing in VR is the difference between playing a game, and flying a spaceship. Great video cmdr o7
I see alot of "I quit because odyssey didnt have VR" comments. If there was another option for space combat w/ hotas in VR or exploring the vastnes of the final frontier in VR, i could understand. But sadly this is the only option. I take breaks but cant give it up. Nothing compares.
I come back over and over as well. There's just nothing quite like space trucking in this game. It does enough things right to make me feel like I'm out there in space.
I really only use on-foot for exobiology, and VR wouldn't really add that much for that. So yeah, ship and SRV still wows me enough to be totally worth it. And it's not like you have to pay extra for VR.
Been using hp regen 2 with a water cooled nvidia rtx 3080 for about a year now. Using x52 HOTAS and voice attack it's a dream game. Totally marvellous. Detail, colours, immersion, everything. Combat is now better than ever. You can turn your head to find your enemy and steer towards them like a real pilot. SRV adventures around geological and flora sites are marvellous also. But FDEV never quite got around to sorting out VR for on foot gaming. It's cinema mode or 3rd person VR using free cam for on foot. Shoddy. Should be fixed.
Agree on voice attack and hotas, I also have a next level flight stand with a butt kicker, the butt kicker adds an incredible amount of immersion. You can feel the gravity well when you're in close proximity of a body.
lol i just got to bed after a looong session in elite in vr, grinding for a new ship, fitting it, flying it over planets and stunning moons, grinding a bit for powerplay and just chilling in space. so glad this game exists
Totally agreed. I started coming back to Elite Dangerous a few months ago just for testing the VR on my Quest 3. And oh boy is it well implemented and working great (apart from the Odyssey on foot stuff, that is still in 2D with a 2D-canvas within VR). I couldn't stop till today. The immersion is just breathtaking. I played a lot in VR since 2019 (Oculus Rift S) but never had such a blast. Fun fact: while driving the SRV I got motion sick for several hours ;D So, newcomers in VR beware! If you got the money, I would recommend the Quest 3, because the lenses are far superior generation wise. Quest 2 is still ok for testing VR, sure.
How much improvement do you see on the Quest 3? I know the lenses and resolution are way better, so I'm waiting for an excuse to upgrade. I also totally got motion sick from the SRV as well, but after a little bit, I guess I just got used to it. Kind of like VR in general. It actually kind of made my SRV driving better, because I learned better control, LOL. Thanks for watching! I really appreciate it!
@@Mile13Gaming The difference is huge. The biggest selling point for me is the so called edge to edge clarity because of the lens design (pancake lenses). It means you could look with your eye in every direction of the lens (even the edges) and there is no distortion or blurry. Whereas the Quest 2 always has these issues (fresnel lenses). This means the readability of text is only in the center middle view of the lenses possible with Quest 2 - an issue the Quest 3 has not.
@@Mile13Gaming I never had the Quest 2 but I used the original Vive and Rift S for years. They both seemed to have very similar lenses that resulted in blurriness outside of the center and "god rays". The Quest 3 basically eliminates that problem entirely. I honestly can hardly believe it.
I remember rushing out to grab a Q2 to replace my CV1, and the minute i fired up ED i was shocked to see my once vibrant ED with deep blacks and colours, now a grey haze washed out colour, filled mess, it was puke inducing, so my advice is if you have used a oled vr hmd of any kind, you won't be able to deal with the step back in fidelity, but if a lcd based vr hmd is your first, then you will be fine as you have no comparison to compare it with.
I got into Elite with a Quest 1 in 2020. Screen door effect (text looked like seeing through a screen door and was hard to read) but I was hooked and will never play it flat. Quest 2 is a solid experience. I also have Reverb G2 which is better but harder to run and Windows is killing it. Index is too low resolution. My Pimax Crystal (regular) with local dimming is gorgeous if you have the GPU power and a strong neck. Quest 3 is better than 2, but I don’t think that noticeably in Elite given the dark environment.
I have a Rift S. The resolution is fine, but not perfect. The fov is a bit annoying, like looking through a binocular. What should I upgrade to if I want to? Any recommendations? Thanks.
Wow, you've really sold me on VR. But what about flight controls, throttle and stick? I've never used VR before, so I don't know if I'm stuck using the included motion controllers or what?
Been playing Elite in VR since 2015, several headsets now on the Quest 3, my only wish is that meta will release an OLED version. Elite with an OLED headset is beautiful.
@@Mile13Gaming The lenses and fov are definitely better along with a higher resolution. I have both and there is a noticeable difference. Plus the mixed reality is insane
I have a HP reverb and I rather play on my OG HTC Vive. While my led one looks amazingly crisp but space is seems like a screen just out of reach. In contrast to LED, oled is where blackness and darkness is a void that goes on onto infinity. Pair this with ED perfectly crafted sense of scale and you have something that feels more spatial.
ED VR is amazing. Just sad about the lacking support for using the controllers (let alone hand / finger tracking) and no ingame browser to check imhara and other ED supporting sites. Getting into the game, fresh, and needing to figure out the hotas setup, all the commands etc while in VR is just to hard.
The HOTAS set up is SO worth plowing through. I actually got my first HOTAS specifically for Elite, and it took a little while to get used to, but once I did, there's no way I could go back to a controller. Stick with it and be patient with yourself!
You should try No Man’s Sky in VR if you like space sim type games, I hears it’s especially amazing. I don’t have a VR head set but I have used head tracking in ED, and it’s a game changer and I can still see and use my HOTAS and keyboard.
I actually did, and it ran HORRIBLY. It shouldn't, according to the specs, so something else might be wrong, but it was completely unplayable. I should give it another go soon.
I use twin vkb nxt evos .. the mini stick on my right thumb is my head look 66.66% of the time(save for on foot). I get what your'e saying about the suit locking your body in place, but most of the time, I need to see straight ahead, which is where that auto centers to.
@Mile13Gaming - a few questions (I have 1,700 hrs logged in non-VR): 1 - I heard FDEV is not that much into supporting VR anymore? (whatever that means) 2 - Are you using the controllers that come with MetaQuest? If not, what are you using? 3 - If I can affored MetaQuest 3 etc - is it worth paying more for a better 'rig'? Thank you!
Hey, sorry it took so long to get back to you! 1. They don't (currently) support on-foot travel in VR. Which isn't a big deal to me, since I do exobiology on foot, but that's it. The rest of it is a wonderful experience. 2. Nope, I just use my HOTAS and keyboard/mouse like normal. 3. I've heard that it's definitely an upgrade, so if it's in your budget, go for it! Thanks for reaching out!
I love playing ED in VR. I use my Quest 2 for that too. However, It seems that you have a better setup and settings than I have, the graphics looks amazing in your vid. Would you mind sharing it with us?
I got Voice Attack (and even the Brent Spiner HCS pack to go with it), and I used it for a bit, and then just kind of dropped it. What would you recommend to get the most out of it? What are your most common use cases?
I'm a few dozen hours in now. Still learning. What's your solution for entering text? The only way I can find is using my actual keyboard which means taking my Quest off.
Elite Dangerous in VR is an amazing experience. I wish frontier would keep developing it. They are so far ahead of anyone else. I wish they did not cut corners with Odessey and look to make that experience VR as well.
I really enjoy playing in VR, for every reason you've mentioned, but still end up playing with TrackIR most often. I find the extra effort and the added fatigue (like physical pain from having the thing strapped to my cheekbones) makes longer sessions of tedious jumping or grinding bounties or whatever much less appealing. That could just be my setup and not an experience representative of most users, idk. VR in Elite still feels mostly like a novelty to me rather than a viable way to actually play through game loops, but I absolutely don't want to discredit anyone who feels otherwise! I think I'm just playing Elite for different reasons now than before, and I'm sure that'll change again :) I'm just glad the game still has my interest at all after all this time.
I have the same head strap he's using in the video. Bobovr, but mine has the removable battery. It makes all the difference. I hated the stock strap just squeezing it to my face. Now the quest more or less hangs in front of my face, and the strap holds it up. I just did about six hours of project cars 2 (so sitting down, but still in vr) and I could easily keep going all day. The battery can be hot swapped, and they say with two you can just keep swapping and charging all day. I only have the one, so I can't verify this. I can attest to the comfort of the strap. It's night and day.
Honest question: Why would you quit the rest of the game because a new part of it didn't support VR? If you loved it in VR already, the addition of new content wouldn't affect what you were already into.
With the Quest 3 I've run into some UI glitches. It might be because of the GPU scaling that is happening but it doesn't happen in other games. I got it looking pretty good but I had to adjust a lot of the settings.
Well I agree with you on getting into VR is great experience and have done so for many years now. I started with the original Oculus Rift which needed external tracking devices. Now I am using the Quest 3 which has built in inside out tracking and wireless. I went with the Quest 3 for a little more money for it has more power, better lenses, color passthrough, and works very well with my gaming PC with a RTX-3080TI. I connect the headset via a USB Link Cable to the PC for playing PCVR SIM racing games. The Quest 2 is a nice VR headset, but with prices dropping on them, I feel the Quest 2 is slowly being phased out for the new "Quest 3 S" lower cost VR headset - possible replacement headset. Elite Dangerous or any of these type of games I am not really into them anymore. I am saving all my disk space on my computer for any new SIM racing games that are coming out. Most of them are also in VR. Thanks for the video. Take care.
Really appreciate you taking the time to reply! Racing games are definitely on my radar to try out. The reason I think I'm drawn to Elite is that like racing sims, it's as close as you can get to a true space SIM. I don't want arcade action - I want to feel like I'm THERE, and that's what I love about it. I'm sure the Q3 is in my future as well. In my personal situation, I can't quite justify it yet, but that time will come. I've heard nothing but great things. Thanks again!
@@Mile13Gaming Yes, I bet Elite Dangerous is a great game in VR. With VR, it puts us right into the game, not just staring at a flat display screen. I plan to try and use this "UEVR mod tool" to change a couple of my bike racing games that use either "UREAL 4 or 5" and change them into VR - so that I am actually be sitting on the bike in VR and can look around. Right now these bike games do not provide VR at all. Amazing what we can do with games. Take care.
Heya, Im a new Elite player who pretty much got into it just for the VR experience. Im loving it, but configuring the VR has been its only little minigame it itself, and one that Im not sure Im winning! Any config tips?
Nothing to add to this video, ED in VR is amazing, I just do have one annoying issue in VR with the Quest 2 and that is the terrible anti aliasing in ED Odyssey. What are your experiences in this regards?
Sure, the AA isn't the best I've ever seen, but it's also far from the worst. Honestly, it was something I just kind of got used to pretty quick and it wasn't much of a distraction. And knowing that my headset was literally less expensive than my monitor, I cut it some slack, because overall, it's still fantastic.
@@indigotyrian Cool, will try that, just noticed that in the Horizons engine 3.8 the AA seems to work better. But as said, will try your settings. ED VR is absolutely amazing anyways.
Would you still enthusiastically recommend this for Odyssey players? The flight use case is pretty obvious but how jarring is the shift into on-foot stuff? To be honest I swear I'm on foot more than in space.
I can't play in low resolution, so VR glasses are out (till you get to the $2500 ones) but tobii eye tracker gives you 95% of the way to vr using a large monitor.
The Quest 2 doesn't have the highest resolution around, but there are better options if you want to spend a bit more. It was one of those things that I noticed for a few minutes, then just got used to. The immersive experience far outweighs the resolution (which isn't even that bad IMO). Even on a Q2, it's totally worth trying! Thanks for watching!
@@jasonknights9640 very true! But all the under $1500 BT rets I’ve used have too much screen door or not wide enough angle of vie to even get to my 49” monitor.
I'm playing with the Quest 3 and i have a good PC...but, i encounter freezes and stutters... really annoying!! Can you please let me know how you play the game and what your settings please?! You seem to run the game really clean 🤪 Great content and video BTW 😊
Thanks! My specs are Ryzen 3700X, 32GB RAM, GeForce 3060Ti, and I just use the "VR Low/Medium/High" settings, they don't seem to make much of a difference. I use Epic to launch Elite, and there's a "Launch in VR" option, which opens Meta and SteamVR automatically.
Im struggling to keep performance up .. i have q2 also and 5600x and rx 6750 xt - i get a somewhat glitchy flight on planet surfaces where i see this "jump" i frameview.. how about you? E.g what are your settings.
You can actually pin any window using the Oculus software. I haven't tried it, but it's on my to-do list. I wouldn't mind pinning Netflix for those long flights out. :) If/when I try it out and get it working, I'll post up a quick video on it!
Important question: I've been playing ED in VR since WMR headsets came out. I'm still using my Acer headset. BUT, as most know, Microsoft is stupidly killing WMR in Windows, so headset that only work with the WMR portal will cease to work. I play through Steam (I use the Steam for WMR interface). I've stopped all Windows updates because I can't play ED without VR. I do NOT want to play VR games ON the headset in standalone. I DO want to use my PC. So, given the price drop, can I confidently switch to the Quest 2 as a straight replacement for my Acer?
While I do use the standalone features of the Quest quite a bit, I use it with my PC even more. There are two options to use the PC with the Quest: Quest Link (using a USB-C cable - what I do), and Air Link (using WiFi). So yes, you should be able to do the same as you're doing now but with a Quest, and I believe the Quest has a higher resolution image as well. Plus, you would also have the option to play games in the standalone Quest library, should you ever want to.
@@Mile13Gaming Thank you so much for the info! I'm convinced. My biggest fear was losing the capability I already rely on. I spend HOURS in VR in Elite Dangerous (and it's the only way I'll play it), so with Microsoft YET AGAIN being shortsighted and killing off another feature in Windows, I was worried. I'll be placing an order, needless to say.
Does Odyssey support VR yet? Like you said, it's seriously immersive to be in VR in ED...then you suddenly have a flat screen IN VR you're trying to play in, any time you land...Utterly breaks immersion, and them going back on their word is why I quit playing.
So technically Odyssey itself supports VR (as in, when I play, I start ED: Odyssey), but the on-foot portions do not support VR. Honestly, I did a fair amount of the on-foot sections for Exobiology cash (one of my first videos on this channel, actually), but I spend the majority of time in my ships or SRV, so the lack of VR there doesn't really affect my gameplay much. Thanks again for watching!
@@Mile13Gaming that's not completely terrible. I was worried it might lock me out. I assume the galaxy/system menus are like this too? What about things like system scanning or detailed surface scanner? After seeing this video I'm quite interested in picking up a Meta Quest 2 just for Elite Dangerous
My computer can barely run the game in not-VR! What do you mean give it a try?! This looks super fun. I guess I should add it to the list of things I should try when I finally upgrade my aging rig.
Yeah, it takes a decent bit of horsepower, but with the right settings, it's not too bad. I have a Ryzen 3700X and a 3060Ti, and it handles it just fine.
@@Mile13Gaming That's good to know! I have an RX 580, and the system requirements are still wrong on the Steam page, so I thought it would be enough to run the game. It is, barely lol.
@@Mile13Gaming I ended getting a Q3 yesterday! My first VR headset since the GearVR, if you can imagine how blown my mind is going from a phone VR headset haha 😅 so worth it
Hey guys - can any one provide a feedback about health after playing VR? I mean - does it feel dizzy? Hurt eyes? Idk - do you feel good afterwards? Just considering buying a VR googles but this is one of my biggest concerns - how would I feel after that. especially playing just before the bed time? Is all good?
You'll get your "VR legs". If your experience is like mine, it'll be a little disconcerting the first few times, but after that, you'll likely not even notice it anymore.
900?! Jeez Louise! A true veteran. I eagerly want to try it out when my headset arrives. Is the base version of Elite Dangerous sufficient for a decent VR experience? I read that the Odyssey expansion breaks VR and immersion is lost. If you have a list of your recommended mods or recommendations for an extra immersive/fun VR experience that would be greatly appreciated!
It doesn't seem like there's anything in VR that doesn't give me what I already have with TrackIR, aside from the depth of field. I can move my head and look around and keep my eyes on bounty targets, see asteroids above me when I'm mining, and keep my eyes outside when I'm landing.
I am in the same boat. I would LIKE to try VR though, but I am not sure if my stomach - let alone my PC - can handle it. ^^ 200 $ is not pocket change for me, just to try something out that I might end up not using. So yeah, If you are prone to motion sickness or can't afford the hardware, a regular head tracker is a valid option. TrackHat from the UK had a cheap alternative to TrackIR available, but they appear to not offer it anymore; instead, they now offer a camera-only solution for around 100 pound (about 150 $ with shipping, I assume). Speaking of which: Down to Earth Astronomy has made a video about a year ago, talking about using the software "Opentrack" and a regular WebCam. ua-cam.com/video/TqMOkS-7z-s/v-deo.html I have no idea which solution I will pick up, should my TrackIR ever break.^^ But unless I can afford to get a better PC, VR is probably not an option for me. -_- o7
To be honest, I've seen TrackIR, and it really doesn't compare to the same experience. TrackIR isn't as natural, especially if you're using a single monitor. Your head turns, but you still need to keep your eyes trained on the monitor, and the screen doesn't move at the same rate it actually would if you were looking around. I get how it makes looking around more convenient, but I think that's the limit. In my opinion, there's no comparison between the two. I'm not saying it's worthless, and if it works for you, by all means. I'm just saying they're two completely different experiences.
@@Mile13Gaming Yeah, but it does not change my monetary situation. ;) Nevertheless, I hope many can have this experience. Head-tracking is already a step up, and I know I would miss just that little step. ;) o7
@@thespectator1243 Oh totally. It's a luxury to be sure. I'm not going to spring $1000 for a Valve Index, but this is at least a little closer to justifiable 😂

Hmm, sorry to hear that! I always play in Odyssey, and I haven't had it crash once actually. Obviously, the on-foot sequences aren't in full VR of course.
I've been looking at diving in to VR for elite for a while now but only thing putting me off is that i use a controller which i'm perfectly fine using but i thought it might take me out of it rather than using a hotas. I dont have the space for a hotas at the moment so i've helf off but i seriously want to give it a go with a controller. Would anyone reccomend this or wait till i find a place where i can get a hotas set up then get vr?
They're both game changers, and they both add a new dimension to the experience. I would definitely say you don't need a HOTAS with VR. Is it amazing with both? Sure. But each are worth the upgrade in their own right.
Just need a decent graphics card. Any RTX card should be fine, though the better the card, obviously the more you'll be able to crank the settings. I'm running a 3060Ti, and it handles it fine.
@Mile13Gaming thanks sir, I have it, and im using xbox controller. It's amazing, it's like my computer learns with me, if that makes sense. It is easier to play each time I start it up 🤔
No, the time for VR in elite dangerous was back before odyssey dropped. Because they broke VR with odyssey. It's one of the reasons why i stopped playing elite dangerous...
Sorry to hear that. To be fair, nothing that was working in VR before Odyssey "broke" with the Odyssey release. On-foot isn't supported, but the rest of it works as well as it ever did.
I would guess, it depends on the GPU, but I played ED VR with an Intel I7 Gen 6 (or 7?) and GTX1080 in earlier years and it worked. Maybe just give it a try?
There is only one downside to this absolutely fantastic VR experience, and that is no VR for on foot content. But it is not a big problem for me, while I am not very interested in this odyssey part of the game.
Anti Aliasing is SO FUCKING BROKEN in Elite. Looks AWFUL in 2D, looks even worth in VR. Have played this game since launch, they RUINED the AA. Let alone that Odyssey has ZERO VR support. BECAUSE FRONTIER LIED.

Motion sickness was an issue for me, too.
@@Tepnox Sounds awesome. The Q3 is definitely in my future, just have to look at the toy budget... :)
@@Mile13Gaming I never had the Quest 2 but I used the original Vive and Rift S for years. They both seemed to have very similar lenses that resulted in blurriness outside of the center and "god rays". The Quest 3 basically eliminates that problem entirely. I honestly can hardly believe it.
you can use the FXAA aliasing for better edges.
Thanks - Something I keep meaning to do and just forget. I guess I'm just used to how it looks.
Been playing in VR since 2017 Can't play it on flat screen anymore.
It is amazing, i remember my fist vr in ED, i remember the scanner looking like a table with items pocking up and down
Such a great video!!
Thanks so much!
Wow, you're a VR connoisseur! I hadn't heard of the Pimax Crystal, and just looked it up. Wow, that's impressive! One day...
And thanks for watching!
I have a Rift S. The resolution is fine, but not perfect. The fov is a bit annoying, like looking through a binocular.
What should I upgrade to if I want to? Any recommendations? Thanks.
Yes, VR+ED is amazing. Hope it stays this way. +Star Voyager NES 1987
You called it! One of my faves back in the NES days.
Wow, you've really sold me on VR. But what about flight controls, throttle and stick? I've never used VR before, so I don't know if I'm stuck using the included motion controllers or what?
Oh no! I always use a flight control and stick, namely the Logitech x52. Don't use the motion controllers at all.
And about on foot VR in elite dangerous?
Only Play in VR now. Its very immersive. Looks like you are in a Krait
Yup. A Krait Mk2. I had actually never used a Krait before this year (I know, I know), but I'm loving it.
@@Mile13Gaming Fantastic ship. Great for exploring aswell
its superb in vr i use a q pro and two transducer speakers.under the seat and elite works superb with them as it naturally has low tones.
I've heard the visuals in the Quest Pro are spectacular.
Been playing Elite in VR since 2015, several headsets now on the Quest 3, my only wish is that meta will release an OLED version. Elite with an OLED headset is beautiful.
How does it compare from the Quest 2 to Quest 3? Is it noticeable?
@@Mile13Gaming The lenses and fov are definitely better along with a higher resolution. I have both and there is a noticeable difference. Plus the mixed reality is insane
I have a HP reverb and I rather play on my OG HTC Vive.
While my led one looks amazingly crisp but space is seems like a screen just out of reach. In contrast to LED, oled is where blackness and darkness is a void that goes on onto infinity. Pair this with ED perfectly crafted sense of scale and you have something that feels more spatial.
@@martinpickens2534 I have a Vive pro and yes I love the colors and black but the screen door is very noticeable when going back from the Quest 3.
@Mile13Gaming - a few questions (I have 1,700 hrs logged in non-VR):
1 - I heard FDEV is not that much into supporting VR anymore? (whatever that means)
2 - Are you using the controllers that come with MetaQuest?
Sure! AMD Ryzen 3700X, GeForce 3060Ti, 32GB RAM. All settings in Elite seem to work fine. I think this was in "VR High".
VR in Elite is awesome. Add voice attack and it is just that much better! Now fdev needs to get the on foot into vr.
I can still use the mouse and keyboard with the headset on. Judy have to know where it is. 🙂
I loved elite dangerous in VR, but when they released the 2d spacelegs update, I quit. I had over 2000 hours logged. Shame.
Exact same..... not even a 3dof helmet view so i left.
What kind of UI glitches? Shadows looking weird, or more serious that that?
You can turn this off! Set Anti-Aliasing to SMAA, Supersampling to 1.0x, and Upscaling to Normal.
@@indigotyrian Cool, will try that, just noticed that in the Horizons engine 3.8 the AA seems to work better. But as said, will try your settings. ED VR is absolutely amazing anyways.
just bought this game on steam and the HOTAS x56. Wish me luck 😅
Awesome! Let me know how it goes! I have a few other tutorials on my channel, and if you'd like to see me cover something, let me know!
Thanks for watching!
eye tracking does not give u the depth perception in vr you are sat inside the geme the diffrence is night and day
@@jasonknights9640 very true! But all the under $1500 BT rets I’ve used have too much screen door or not wide enough angle of vie to even get to my 49” monitor.

I'm using a 3700X and a RTX 3060Ti. With your setup, you should be fine. I'm using the VR High setting, nothing else customized, and it runs great.
How can you pin a browser and copy/paste from it to the galaxy map? I'm somewhat dependent on my route planner :)
You can actually pin any window using the Oculus software. I haven't tried it, but it's on my to-do list. I wouldn't mind pinning Netflix for those long flights out. :)
If/when I try it out and get it working, I'll post up a quick video on it!

Wait. *I* remind you of Data? At least with the headset on, I'd be hoping for more of a Geordi, geez. LOL

Yoooo, what was that nes game you switched to momentarily? I swear I remember it but cant remember the name.
It was Star Voyager on the NES. Still have the cartridge. :)
I was of the understanding Frontier stopped VR support for ED ?
The on-foot portion isn't in VR, but everything else is still kicking in VR!
I love it on my Quest 3, I just hate the aliasing I see even with the super sampling cranked up to 2.0. This is in Odyssey, Horizons is fine.
Have you noticed a big difference between the Q2 and Q3?
@@Mile13Gaming I did not have the Q2, I upgraded from the Rift.

Oh wow mind has been blown, it’s a completely different game, I must remember to breathe tho 😂😂🤪
I'm scared to get started, like I might loose track of reality
Hey, you know, sometimes that's a good thing. Sometimes, that's exactly the reason I play. :)
@@Mile13Gaming What happens if you're in VR and you get on-foot? Does the game not let you or is it just like, a static view with no headtracking?

This looks super fun. I guess I should add it to the list of things I should try when I finally upgrade my aging rig.

Did they fix the horrible flickering shadows bugs in VR?
I see it every now and then, but it's not very noticeable any more.
It's a shame that Odyssey doesn't support VR, but still worth it for flying and driving!
Totally. Personally, I really only go on-foot for exobiology, and VR for that would be neat, but not amazing.
I have 900 hours of VR in this title.
@@nekron75 I got my Vive almost 8 years ago.
Can I play it without a pc, just on the Quest 3?
It doesn't seem like there's anything in VR that doesn't give me what I already have with TrackIR, aside from the depth of field. I can move my head and look around and keep my eyes on bounty targets, see asteroids above me when I'm mining, and keep my eyes outside when I'm landing.
I am in the same boat.
I would LIKE to try VR though, but I am not sure if my stomach - let alone my PC - can handle it. ^^
200 $ is not pocket change for me, just to try something out that I might end up not using.
Speaking of which:
Down to Earth Astronomy has made a video about a year ago, talking about using the software "Opentrack" and a regular WebCam.
ua-cam.com/video/TqMOkS-7z-s/v-deo.html
I have no idea which solution I will pick up, should my TrackIR ever break.^^
But unless I can afford to get a better PC, VR is probably not an option for me. -_-
o7
You are missing big, buddy.
@@Mile13Gaming Yeah, but it does not change my monetary situation. ;)
Nevertheless, I hope many can have this experience.
Head-tracking is already a step up, and I know I would miss just that little step. ;)

Get out of your seat in an SRV, it's amazing.

onfoot with VR. I am hoping it will be implemented soon.
You and me both. I'm not holding my breath, but there's plenty of VR goodness in Elite even without it.

It's not a native Oculus game. In Steam or on Epic (which I use), there is a "Launch in VR" option to start.
