I just had this done and it really turned out to be nothing. The needle felt like a mosquito bite and then i could feel pressure on the thyroid. Just don't look at those needles!
I’m in tears because my anxiety is to the roof I can’t believe I need to have this done ✅ they’ll need to put me to sleep I can’t be awake this is not ok 😩😩😩😩
I’ve had this done before and have to have one again. It’s a bit uncomfortable but not unbearable. You can ask for lidocaine or drugs but many doctors, especially male ones, think you don’t need them. I didn’t have the ice or any drugs because the male doctor said no. I regret not insisting. I did feel pressure on my neck which kind of freaked me out but it turned out just fine. My best advice? Don’t look at the needle.
I've had one just yesterday. I was so afraid but I did not feel literally anything during procedure. They did not use ice or anything for the pain and still I did not feel anything! After one hour I started to feel some pressure while I was eating but nothing about pain and today is everything normal. Nothing to worry about! God bless everyone!
I was so scared pending this procedure but this video prepared me for it. Everything happened just like the video said and though the local anaesthetic injection was painful everything else was pain free. So thanks for the video prep.
I just completed my FNA this morning. I had 5 different needles inserted for the biopsy. I am on blood thinners that was not an issue. However, the needles were uncomfortable as we went one after the other. They used a cold fluid to numb the skin make sure they use lots of cooling fluid it really helps. It was not scary and the doctor explained what she was going to do of course I watched a video the night before about the procedure. Looks like my thyroid is coming out for sure at least half a determination will be make on the other half during surgery. Don't be afraid just get it done.
Good Lord this was painful and traumatic! First of all, I had a wonderful, kind and professional team who were very supportive and concerned with my comfort. 3 Nodules to biopsy, it took an hour and 20 minutes, 4 shots of Lidocaine (OUCH) the pressure was intense as the needle went in and out a total of 8 times for each nodule, that's 24 times! I was not prepared for it to be such an emotionally exhausting and painful experience. I'm recovering with an ice pack and an Oxy. Thank God it's over!
Sorry you went through all that. My surgeon would not biopsy four at one time. First two on the right and next two on the left. I had my SIL drive me the first time. One month later…I drove myself. It’s times like these I miss my husband for his support…but I went shopping after the last two!
I had this procure done 3 times by 2 different Doctors. Both Doctors had a different way of doing the biopsy. Today the Doctor used Lidocaine and I had 2 nodules to get checked. This Doctor had me crying he went in with the aspiration needle 7 times each nodules he went in and out up to 60 seconds 😭. The pressure was so bad the nurse gave me 2 tylenols after the procedure was complete. I had surgery before on my abdominal and I swear this has been the worst pain It's now 6 hrs later and my head, neck throat are swollen 😫 and I'm in deep pain. I don't want to scare anyone if is going for this biopsy for thyroid gland. The previous Doctor had a different procedure he used a spray to numb the area and I had 3 glands to test. He went in only 3x for 10 seconds and I felt pressure. I didn't have pain like today. 😕 they are both male Doctors with different procedures🙄. I'm icing up every 2 hours and 4 hrs tylenol. Hope this information helps others this video was helpful for me to better understand thyroids.
I have one scheduled on the 30th. What actually makes them both differ? Because I hear that both went in to numb you, but how one was worse then the other one? My body is really sensitive so I am scared and my anxiety is through the roof
I just had this done on Tuesday. I pray that you never have to go through this. It was very painful. I have two nodules that are suspicious. So, they used two needles to numb me then about three needles in each one to draw the fluid. I cried the whole time. Thank God it's over and pray the results are benign.
I have one nodule that they took 5 samples from. I was so sore that first day especially! I didn't try icing until that night because they gave me no instructions for pain but it really helped. Unfortunately they didn't get a good enough sample so now I have to go back to have it done again and I'm not looking forward to it. Definitely asking for a different doc this time.
I have 2 nodules that are suspicious. Tirads level 4 and 5. Im so scared to have this done. I used to assist with these when i worked in pathology at a hospital and omg we should be sedated. The doc back then stabbed the tryroid 12 times looking for cells 😮 i almost passed out helping the first time! Im so scared
@@skummamuru my biopsies all turned out to be undetermined or something? They didn't know what the tissue was 💀 so I am being followed very closely by my new thyroid doc.
Had this procedure on Friday morning. Two freezings that were indeed like bee stings and nothing more as the doc suggested. 3 samples taken. Live close by the the hospital and simply walked home afterwards, procedure itself took maybe 10 minutes tops.
This FNA biopsy is painful! My doctor refused to numb the area, and inserted the needle, moving it around to collect the sample. It hurt like crazy, yet you can’t talk or move! I felt like he thought I was some kind of a baby. Plus, it left a wicked bruise on my neck that took awhile to fade. Looks like I’m going to have to re-do this soon, and I’m not at all happy about it.
I've had dozens of these biopsies including today and can assure you there are better interventional radiologists than the jerk you unfortunately encountered! No numbing is normal as the guage of the needle for delivering meds is bigger than the one doing the biopsy and there is zero pain in the hands of an expert, but certainly a pinch on entry and a weird pressure sensation during each sample. They should have given you an ice pack immediately which, if you use it 20-30 minutes on, then 20-30 off, cycling for several hours prevents bruising, swelling and feeling battered. There are Plenty of other docs out there, so you def don't need to go back to the same guy and get lousy treatment. Amazing docs are out there. If you live at the Jersey shore, I can give you a name. Best of luck in the future!
Omg I've just had this FNA biopsy done about 2 hours ago and I'm in so much pain I can't move my head to either side,my neck is swollen and I literally want to scream..😭😭😭😭 I've had this exact experience
I was 13 when i first did it, i was definitely nervous during the process (around 30 mins), but it wasn't painful, just uncomfortable. It just uncomfortable when you swallow or when you're tense. Im doing it again tomorrow (in another place and another doctor), so hopefully it goes smoothly like last time!
Well, I need this done but after reading some of these comments, it's hard pass for me! Plus, I don't wanna take the chance of it being cancer and end up spreading from the needle holes....
For anyone to scared to do this, it’s not that bad, they did have to re do mine though they couldn’t get any cells, but this test is a necessity, it is the only way to know if you have cancer forsure! They number my neck for this too
It doesn't hurt. I did mine a week ago. The worst pain felt like a bee sting and a little burning when they put that Lidocaine in then after that I felt nothing. I was even able to watch what was happening on the ultrasound.... For a little bit 😅

I am afraid of mosquito.
I did this with a very experienced ENT specialist.
Barely any pain, and it is done in some seconds.
I don't believe it's anything to worry about.
Thank u
Thank you

I have to have this done also and I feel exactly how you do. Have you had it done yet?
It’s okay, had one today, just relax and dont Swallow, move or talk while the needle is in, it only feels like pressure when you tense up or move !

I'm so sorry it was traumatic for you!!! My daughter has this upcoming so I was looking around on yt
I'm going to be under conscious sedation.
How big was your thyroid

Oh no, I have to go next week to have this done. What do I need to make sure they numb me enough with?

Not helpful. You should keep this kind of negative info to yourself.

One benign and the other one no dx, so I have to repeat in Dec.

If you don’t mind me asking, did it turn out to be benign or was it cancer? I have a Tirads level 5 and also very worried.

How can I obtain written permission to share/use this video at another facility for Veterans?
Thank you for reaching out to Cleveland Clinic. Please email our corporate communication dept. at newsroom@ccf.org. They will be able to assist you.
Be sure to get OTC pain meds after, as your neck will be sore

Were you taking blood thinners when you had the procedure done?
I had it done. Five samples were taken. Barely felt anything during procedure and went home and back to my normal activities.
Outstanding. Thanks a million
I have to go through this all over again because they didn't get enough cells it is traumatizing. Patients should be put to sleep I hated it
It hurts honestly I cried but the nurse hold my hands and even ask the doctor if my neck was numb enough
No pain. Lidocaine stings for a few seconds, and the rest is easy. There is some pressure but no pain.
Am going Wednesday for this test and I want my neck to be munb
I’M SCARED
I won't do it.
