A good movie does not necessarily equate a crystal clear ending. Amazing movie. I personally thought the end fit to the film's style. Justice in real life is not always served a la typical Hollywood way....
see this what's always boggled me. Colin will do anything to cover the fact that he's a mole, I'm surprised he didn't go aggressive towards Madolyn considering at this point she's the only one who realized Colin's dual status (other than Dignam at the end).
I was like 19 when I watched this in theaters. When Leo got killed there was a collective gasp in the room. Like 15 seconds later Anthony Anderson gets headshot and another gasp. But when he shot his buddy there was a large vocalization from the crowd.
I think there's a little mistake in the scene; when Edmond shoot de caprio the gun dropped at his left arm... but Edmond when he kneeled to take the gun ....the gun was nearly towards the right arm of de caprio.
When I watched this film the first time I thought to myself... Nope, this shit transpired way too easily, there's a plot twist somewhere. I didn't expect this though!
Damon's character thought he was the main Costello's man. In the elevator scene he realise he was wrong all the time. And of course the man who shots Dicaprios's character thought the same thing, but he was not the one either. So who is the main costello's man? It's brilliant! But for sure Dignam avenges Costello. He was giving a shit the other Costello's man.
No, Sullivan got a bunch of his own people killed trying to nail Costello, whilst being Costello's rat, and then saved himself by taking Costello out himself. He doubled crossed everyone on both sides. Dignam was the only good guy in this movie.
I've seen this theory a few times. And it's the one theory that makes zero sense if you have ever watched the whole film. If Dignam was a mole for Costello then Billy would never have got into Costello inner circle.
Exactly. Dignam was avenging billy in that scene. He respected him the whole movie for risking his life like that. When billy dies and Connor is the only one standing, Dignam had to kill him. Dognam was my favorite character in the movie.

Well at least the rat didn't get away with it.
amazing ending but what took the edge off it a bit was the fact that it's not Matt Damon lying on the floor on the final reverse.........not even a good double. However, great that Dignam shows his true metal, no quarter.
