"Lot of guys wanna' appear to be cops. Gun, badge, pretend they're on TV...." That line always gets me, seeing as how they're all actors "appearing to be cops" :)
"...put uh niggaz head through a plat glass window." Boston. Non-rhotic accents. Final /r/ deletion, /r/ - > /a/ substitution, just as in African American English dialect.
Think about the CASH, and EXPERIENCE in that room.... Di Caprio, Damon, Wahlberg, and Martin Sheen. .. talk about Talent!!! I absolutely LOVED this movie. I watch it more than once a month. Probably the number one cast ever put into a single movie!!
Love this scene for so many reasons...In a nut shell this is a phycological selection course to find the (right guy) for the job,, not the toughest guy, not the fastest guy, not the even the most experienced guy,,.... This is very similar to what Special Forces Units I,e the 22 SAS, Delta Force operators have to pass in order to be selected for the Unit/Regiment... Some of the most experienced, hardened soldiers try out for these Units and very few pass for no other reason other then they just didn't possess a certain attitude.... They don't want the "Best guy",, they want the "right guy."
I remember this one time I had to get up in the middle of the night to take a dump and after I’d finished I went and made myself banana pancakes and some croissants. I think that’s exactly the message Sergeant Digman is trying to convey in this job interview.
matt damon character = arrogant pretentious overconfident .. dicaprio character= vulnerable , sexy, introverted .. the winner = dicaprio .. even if the secretary didn t pay attention to him .. he got reconization by better than her .. the psychologist woman who told him .. i have to tell u something right now ... your vulnerability is freaking me out ..
THIS WAS THE ROLE Leo shoulda got a Gold Statue for! EVERYTHING about his portrayal is FLAWLESS! FROM the purposely faked Boston accent in hope it would make him sound more appealing..the UNconfident way he sits outside the office awaiting his interview..his level of near exploding mix of emotions resulting from Marky Mark's taunting prods which he somehow manages to KEEP WITHIN yet *express via his eyes ALONE! Absolutely Remarkable!! The Revenant was a great film and Leo was great in it.. but his role in The Departed was a true exemplification of his talent! (*Another example of Leo's ability to express emotion via his eyes alone was towards the end of INCEPTION aboard the plane after he wakes up from having gone back to rescue Saito from Limbo ..just as the music begins (TIME by Hanz Zimmer) watch Leo's FACIAL EXPRESSION in particular his EYES as he glances at Ariadne (the young woman) and his friend Arthur who both smile at him... the camera then shifts to Saito wakin up and lookin at Leo who's out-of-shot (not in camera frame) THEN the camera shifts back to Leo looking at Saito.. TELL ME that glared expression ISN'T speaking a 1000 words and I'll call you a LIAR! AMAZING ACTOR!!
Mark walbert “I’m the best friend you have and I’m gonna help you understand something....you’re not a cop....”.....the “best friend” part foreshadows the revenge at the end.
How on earth Mark Wahlberg lost to Alan Arkin for Best Supporting Actor I'll never know, I said the same thing about Eddie Murphy for his role in Dreamgirls !!!
So, basically I’m 5 mins...Dignam and Queenan convince Billy that because of his family history and upbringing, he’s not fit to be a state trooper? I don’t think this is how it goes down in real life. Movie needed vulnerable guy like Costigan to play Undercover but what if he says no? Then he could compromise that unit. Out them. Wahlberg is amazing here. DiCaprio is the best actor in the movie.
It’s their unit. If he says no, he’s sent packing to whatever lowly shit unit they have and he’s in the dog house until he quits. That’s how it works in real life.
They knew Billy had no choice but to join, it was a matter of take it or leave, and they knew he was desperate not to end up a criminal like the rest of his family.
can t understand how people ask which movie instaed of taping just the names of the actors and in 2 sec ! instead of asking and saying "please respond meee !!! " loll
Dignam admitted that they needed Costigan. He just wanted to see if he could break him before offering the job.
Matthew Williams absolutely
I'm not sure about that. He's an asshole throughout the whole film. Just his personality.
They were definitely testing him
They were playing good cop, bad cop lol
"Lot of guys wanna' appear to be cops. Gun, badge, pretend they're on TV...." That line always gets me, seeing as how they're all actors "appearing to be cops" :)

I know this life myself
I think "im the best friend you have in the face of this Earth" is the greatest foreshadowing xD
Best Mark Wahlberg role ever
Walker Anderson The Fighter was good too
Dirk Diggler?
Father Stu.
He is shit in everything else, but they used his asshole personality very good in The Departed
This role was made for him. He’s so good.
Ya no! Fuckin! Cawrp!
You wanna be a cawp or you wanna appear to be a cawp? lol
It’s an honest question.
Oh boy imagine if you're job interviewer was Sergeant Digman.....
Easy....... don't go
i would left crying , cursing or with a murder on my record.
then probably wouldn't get hired. Lol
Running a starbucks.
"Let me tell you something you are and something you're not, you're no fucking barista!!
+nickyboy22071989 can I get a Venti black coffee
Maybe, maybe not, maybe fuck yourself
If Dignam was the only friend i had on any planet i would go to another planet
🤣😂
😄😄😄
That's hilarious 😆
Dignam avenged Billy in the end!
He proved his friendship by avenging him.
Don't you hate it when the "L" button on your keyboard breaks?
Then how did you type "L"?
top notch pal
Yes. That's the reason I'm in prison.
SkyOut read the subtitles. All the "L"s are replaced with capital "i"s
King MultiGenre only lower case L’s
Therapy should go always like this
What a ray of sunshine.
The ENTIRE plot would’ve been probably avoided had Sullivan just looked at the other guys interviewing for the position😂.
Departures from normative behavior is a great line
"Families rising and falling in America." - omg that script is so wonderful.
Wahlberg and Damon in one room. Fuuuck, so strange!
Crixus Did you really, or are you just quoting the meme?
Crixus u mean damon and di caprio
Why is it strange?
XxFierxX It's a long running meme that people think they're the same person, and this movie is their first time being seen together.
I feel like I'm pretty thick skinned, and can handle stress. But holy shit Dignam would put the fear of god into me!
I honestly believe Mark should have won an Oscar for this role.
Well he is a racist dude from Boston, so he really only had to be himself..
He played himself. Not really a stretch. He went to jail for Hate crime bruh. He had 2 differrnt racist charges as well back i the day.
@@lordoffaiyum9727 true
agreed

The rest of the scene would have been nice to see
siberwolf33 ikr
De Caprio and Damon were inches away from each other.
I remember this one time I had to get up in the middle of the night to take a dump and after I’d finished I went and made myself banana pancakes and some croissants. I think that’s exactly the message Sergeant Digman is trying to convey in this job interview.
😆😆😆
What an intense scene. I'm really high.
'' Whoop de fuckin do '' LMAO !

Funny, Wahlberg is related to Hawthorne.

I have an interview in a few months about joining the staties too, hope to not find Dignam there haha
If I had an interviewer talk to me like that, I would kill it
Dignam never trusted Colin from the start!
49 seconds Leo is the man they want like so many women respect mate
This scene reminds me of my first job interview
Toys-R-Us is hard 😢
Mark walbert “I’m the best friend you have and I’m gonna help you understand something....you’re not a cop....”.....the “best friend” part foreshadows the revenge at the end.
"I remember his funeral"
"Closed casket?"
"... Thats right.."
Wahlbergs best roll of all time. Best dickhead in any movie lol
How on earth Mark Wahlberg lost to Alan Arkin for Best Supporting Actor I'll never know, I said the same thing about Eddie Murphy for his role in Dreamgirls !!!
The cop from "The Untouchables" played by Andy Garcia would have beaten the crap out of Mark Wahlberg in an interview like that.
Alex Leong yeah, but he's a Guinea
This is from movie THE DEPARTED !!
aRE YOU sure? nOT Titanic?
Its from American Pie
Well ladi-fucking-da
Greatest scene ever
They are playing a good cop and bad cop game.
Mark is threatening him so that martin can get what they want.
So brutal to Billy
So, basically I’m 5 mins...Dignam and Queenan convince Billy that because of his family history and upbringing, he’s not fit to be a state trooper? “Are you calling us cunts” 😂
4:10 wahlberg saying that?🤔🤔.....it kind of reminds me of something but I don't know what
Let's take the time that walhberg said nigga 😂
He never wanted to be a gangster
I know what to do when my "L" key breaks now! Thanks!
Blue coat tan pants and black shoes?
Orange coat green pants and purple shoes?
Mark Wahlberg is brilliant in this movie. Pity he doesn't show what a good actor he can be in other roles
Just noticed how skinny Leo was compared to Mat
:30 if they just turned and saw each other
cop or not, i would not want to work with that guy on the right.
That scene is great, but those subtitles are awful.
*wildly unprofessional, but it's a movie, so...
Wahlberg in this movie was phenomenal.
Walberg overacts in this scene
3.28 though .. u a psychiatist with that old woman voice lollllllllll he made me laugh how he sent it after the long discourse of mark

Scrub can't tell a capital i from an l
Mark got a pass for that N word
William Phelps yeah. It fits the situation perfectly.
Justin Thomas it didn’t offend me just like Django didn’t offend me
Yeah. Django was okay. That other one with Kurt Russell as the bounty hunter was a little over the top for me.
Lot of F word
