using world of warships to illustrate a naval battle is the stuff I need in my life
Check out our other ones! Hunt for Bismarck and Taffy 3!
@sealordmountbatten I have subscribed.
shame there are so many anomalies in the German ships with their WW2 Kriegsmarine flags, SL8 domed rangefinders and funnel caps - also a U boat shown is WW2 era. Still a very impressive way of visualising the battle so bravo overall
@@simonstock4448 yeah most of the ships are in some type of early WWII configuration in the game, so that’s what we had to use. Same with the sub.
The urge to overlay Dreadnought from Sabaton on top of this is real
Nah. Just had it queued up to play as soon as the video was over.
Do it

You can tell that a lot of effort went on the production of this video, my respects to you and all that took part in its creation.
Excellent production ! Shame that the game is shite.
It was a ton of fun to film!!! Took a couple tries for a few things but was pretty cool.
The musical score when you introduced HMS dreadnought, it was just phenomenal. I’m sure this project was absolutely mammoth in proportions, so you have a most sincere bravo. I thoroughly enjoyed these 14 minutes. A good blend of historical knowledge, and very well executed footage from World of Warships. If you were to make another one of these, I would most certainly dance at your wedding.
Awesome historical re-enactment. Well done to all. History is our best teacher and those that fail to learn from her are doomed to repeat it.
Both my grandfathers served as POs at Jutland (one in ‘Iron Duke’, Jellicoe’s flagship, the other, I was told, in the destroyer ‘Hardy.’ I never met him as he died during WW2.) My surviving grandfather, who died in 1965, could never understand why the battle was not a resounding victory and, like many of his contemporaries, had little to say concerning Adm. Beattie.
Good luck, fair seas, and God bless!
Jackie Fisher was a brilliant dude, he is basically the reason wows is a game
Yeah, but he was an utter loon...
@vonbek7138 its the loons that normally come up with this sh*t though to be fair
@@vonbek7138 yeah, but without Fisher, how tf would we get the Courageous (pronounced "Outrageous") class of cruisers armed with 15" and 18" guns?
Will look forward to watching this. My favourite work of naval / military history is about Jutland: Andrew Gordon's wonderful Rules of the Game (1996). I would recommend it to anyone interested in the organisational / command culture of the Royal Navy during this period.
Agreed - a truly insightful book.
Very nicely done, SLM and team! Thank you and give us more!
More might be coming in the future!
Very well done! Great editing, concise narration, and excellent cinematography. I can only imagine what an effort it took to coordinate the action. Kudo SLM!
Fantastic production!
Just to see the sheer madness of these
Days...
Thanks
Andii
Absolutely loved this guys. Hope to see even more
You know something....I'm really glad that first ship you put on screen was the SMS Scharnhorst really gives that detail for the point you were talking about. Very well done on the video as a whole though.
This is so excellent. The Jutland naval battle doesn't receive as much treatment with modern animation. Have always tried to imagine what those series of encounters looked like. Thanks so much.
That was a great summary of Jutland. Nice work!
Big thanks to you Sea Lord and to ALL who made this possible! Excellent video and excellent work!!!!!
Massive congratulations! As someone who wrote a dissertation on Jutland, I always dreamed of someone using wows to portray the engagement, especially now with the inclusion of Battlecruisers. It would be fun to replay the run the to south and north (battlecruiser action) with real players, same with other naval engagements.
again, great work. your historic recreations are always above and beyond well put together
I learned a lot. I like battle documentaries like this give you what really went on. Just like The Greatest tank battles.
Awesome video!! Hard to find a concise Jutland video without putting me to sleep or too lacking of detail. o7 Sealord
Great video (as always) , I found it very informative !
Love the video, a nice and concise imaging of the battle...I've read around the subject for a few years now and this is one of the best short histories I've seen...chapeau to all involved...
Excellent video. It really just shows how much shells are flying everywhere and I wouldn't imagine being on one of the German Ships executing the perfect 180 turn while shells and seawater are raining on your ship with concentrated fire
Good job on the re-production of another major naval battle. I've enjoyed these re-productions very much . Some WW1 cruiser & destroyer actions should also be given consideration.
Awesome presentation. There are many documentaries but none with this type of animation bringing Jutland to life.
Excellent history lesson,thx Mate 👍
I was really looking forward to it all the week
OUTSTANDING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks!
Thx for all the hard work on this...
Great Vid thanks Sea Lord
This is fantastic - nice work SLM and team!!
Fab video. Congrats. Going over the specs of the battleships/cruisers and their respective histories would have been fine. I understand whilst the tonnage figures give a clear winner, the damage to the german ships was significant. Also it might be worth exploring why the british ships exploded. I saw a documentary investigating the British order to fire as quickly as possible by ignoring anti-spark precautions - so it was self inflicted rather than the myth of superior steel / weaponry.
absolutely fantastic video! more of this every time
Fantastic, really well done 👍
Well done! And thanks for the code!
Excellent job. Only an issue of small detail for future projects is to ensure ensigns and symbology match the historical era. Saw numerous red WW2 era Kriegsmarine ensigns and Reichsadlers on some German ships instead of the white Kaiserliche Marine ensign and Imperial Reichsadler.
Sadly, we cannot change these in game
Great effort and amazing job everyone. thank you.
This is a great documentary and the inclusion of WOWS footage really gives you a sense of scale and just how many ships were deployed to this pivotal battle.
One small nitpick of mine is that the 5th Battle Squadron consisted of four Queen Elizabeth class super dreadnoughts during the battle of Jutland. HMS Barham, HMS Warspite, HMS Valiant and HMS Malaya.
Sadly, all of the Queen Elizabeth classes in game are in their WWII refit and not their WWI state, so we had to go with Iron Dukes instead
@@sealordmountbatten yeah thats true. I wish WG had hulls like the older patches where the stock hull was the WW1 form and the upgraded was the refit WW2 version for ships like the QE or the Nagato, Fuso, Kongo etc etc
Amazingly well-done Sea Lord.
Thank uou for the video it was a great watch
That turned out really good glad I could be a part of it
Very, very well done. Thank you.
Brilliant!
AMAZING!!!
This is amazing! Great job!
nicely done captains!
It’s taken a few days to get to this video, I’ve been in the middle of my work stretch, but great content as always!
Well done!
Excellent production. ❤
Great job!
Very cool vid! Thanks for the effort, it was really worthwhile..
Great video...
Those two synchronized turnouts and turnins must have been 'fun' 🙂
Well done gents.
Wonderful, great job.
JUTLAND 1916 - Our Historical Miniatures Group did Jutland 1916 on tabletop (10' X 9') at the K.C. Mo. HAHMGS Con a while back with painted/mounted miniature ships with ALL Capital ships from BBs down to ACs with smaller ships (CLs & DDs) on stands of multiple ships for both sides ! We did the battle over a 6 hour period with both sides moving their fleets into contact and engaging in gunnery exchanges starting to cause sinkings of 6-8 ships per side when we had to quit for the next battle in the evening session ? There are few Historical battles that interest history buffs like JUTLAND and very few chances to be involved in such a battle (to make choices make results) ! Of course this was before digital 3D computer battles were available (awsome video here) !! I still have the ship models stored away to look at and think WHAT IF ??? :-)
Its really funny how much a "faces to names" this is, I know the names but didn't know whom they were named after.
Nice shot of muiltiple ships sinking together that was great.
I would like a little more editing to point out which side is which on the aerial shots, but that was really cool.
No one ever gets the second part of Sir David’s remark to his flag captain.
“There seems to be something wrong with our bloody ships today. And something wrong with our system.”
This was really good Sealord, bravo.
I don't know if you've seen it, but there's a simulator like single player game called Jutland. Very realistic.
Awesome video! Thanks for the lesson!
One does not simply cruise within 4km of the British Grand Fleet & slip away...
Well, except for the one time🧐
Very well done! I really enjoyed it. I've done a little video editing myself, pathetic compared to this, but it DOES give me an idea of the time an effort involved. Kudos!
THIS WAS AWESOME!
Great video, thanks for the lesson
Well done!
Thank you for this - great video well done - you should be a History Teacher!!!
Well, I am lol
Good job. Only mistake is speaking about the outcome of Tsushima as the first motivation behind the dreadnought concept. No ship in the Japanese fleet had uniform calibre main guns. But that’s minor. Thanks for the video.
Great Video!
Thanks for the Containers!
Great Job!!!
Awesome video!
🙀🙀🙀🙀 Amazing!
Felt like I was watching a Battle 360 episode like I did when I was a kid.
Loved the video
very well done.
For the algorithm Gods!
jellicoe and beatty werent expecting the battle. they sailed after the plan was revealed but an arrogant british captain or commander rank officer dealing with the civilian codebreakers asked a specific question which would not elicit the information he wanted. while in port scheer used the callsign 'Jade' and the officer went to the code room and asked 'Where is Jade' and was told 'Jade' was in the Jade river i.e. in port. the captain turned round and left, having had no respect for the codebreakers maybe because they were civilians. he had the admiralty signal jellicoe and beatty that the german high seas fleet had not left port as planned, leading to both officers mistrusting admiralty intel once the battle began. the issue had been that Scheer habitually used a different callsign for the fleet when at sea. it was a case of having a little knowledge being a dangerous thing.
additionally, after the main fleet engagement ended with the second turn away, night was falling so jellicoe had beatty and a cruiser screen off in the believed direction of the high seas fleet and attempted to stay between scheer and the most likely shortest route to port. beatty was sure he knew where the high seas fleet was. jellicoe after the long day, had the destroyer screen follow the fleet. the intention was to avoid friendly fire incidents by dreadnoughts or cruiser at night, which the grand fleet had never trained to fight during and had very poor equipment for (such as searchlights without shutters which had to warm up without producing much light at first, just enough for an enemy in the dark to shoot at.) it was also to detect any attempt by scheer (whose ships had iris shutters on searchlights and could warm them up before blinding an enemy with the full glare) to go behind the grand fleet and escape. this failed and the high seas fleet battered its way through the destroyers, most of whom either didnt fire or use torps out of fear they'd overtaken their own fleet and it was a huge mistake, or seemed far too concerned with maintaining station so they could deploy for the next day's fighting. it probably didnt help that jellicoe had sort of preached about using initiative when taking over the fleet but the existing culture in the RN was 'the admiral is essentially god and you dont question god', plus he had intricate detailed plans which pretty much precluded initiative for the battleship admirals and captains. so the high seas fleet went through the destroyers dealing death and carnage, and exhausted officers in the grand fleet just watched the light and sound show move across their rear without figuring out what it must be.
Honestly the night action of Jutland is one of the most insane things.
Good Job.
Wish you could have these old school line battles in game. No planes, no subs, just broadsides on broadsides.
Well done sir.
well done
Well done SLM!
viewing the Kriegsmarine Flag waving was big fun. since Jutland happened the brits are in bitter need to be pampered once a year(:-)
The Royal Navy won at Jutland
There is some context to be noted for the quote by Foch at the end of the video... Many assume that Foch made the quote for thinking that the treaty was too harsh on Germany as this was the popular myth that historians have raised and repeated the arguments made by the economist Keynes and others... However, while Foch did equate the treaty to a 20-year armistice, he actually said it would be such because it was too SOFT on Germany.
That was pretty light
Great content. I’m listening at 0.75x for better comprehension.
i really did not expect steam turbines in 1906. but then again she was the first...and Titanic had one turbine to help the triple expansion engines which pushed her speed.
This is awesome!
P.S. The code seems to have a problem.
Nevermind it worked!
Well Done!
My great grandfather served on the seydlitz
I cant imagine being a british ship at night and consistently being point blanked by german battleships
It's really hard to make these videos entertaining while giving as much information as possible. These videos will always leave parts up, but for the sake of run time. Balance well struck
Nice video with great ship graphics. Only thing is you completely left out the night action. This action is interesting in itself, but it also explains how the High Seas fleet evaded the Grand Fleet and managed to get back to port. Maybe a part 2 is in order?
The night action was left out because we’re using a game called “World of Warships” to make these types of videos. The game unfortunately does not have enough ships that either took part in the Night Action, or ones that are similar enough to stand in for those that did.
@@sealordmountbatten Thank you for explaining that. You did a great job covering the day action.
The reason for the decline in the relationship between England and Germany was the economic decline (self inflicted) and the economic rise of Germany! The term:"Made in Germany" was imposed by Britain on Germany, using Britain's influence with the US
He spelled my name wrong. No biggie Mount, excellent work!
Did I spell it wrong by spelling it right? Lol
IT FINALLY HAPPENED!
Well done!!! Your next challenge is to do a video on War Plan Orange.
Pyrrhic British Tactical Victory.
Decisive British Strategic Victory.
Beatty should have paced himself with the 5th squadron!
That was really great! With respect and in no way a criticism, as I am not even close to being well informed about this battle, but did the ships depicted that close to each other? Both the formations and how far apart from the opposing fleets? It almost was like point blank ranges here.
No they were much further away, 14Km for the Battlecruiser Action. We opted to have them closer as to ensure the audience could see what was going on. Now the Death Ride of the German Battlecruisers is roughly about the correct distance between the two fleets
@@sealordmountbatten Thanks for the reply!
