    To comment on the cuff it makes sense to me for wind protection and to protect the cable if its direct to battery for power. That seems water and weather proof. Three layers at the wrist is max protection

    many times i have the clutch hand on a higher temp level than the throttle one, since it is less on the grips and more open, heated grip users will know what i am saying. hence, i find very useful to have separated controls for the gloves. the app is most useful for socks, jacket and pants anyway. the gloves, you see what level you are anyways and they are as close as the phone to be controlled.

    Good afternoon gents.
    If I was based in the London area I would definitely recommend that potential purchasers head down to your shop to try on and then hopefully purchase a pair of these gloves from you.
    I purchased a pair from a big online retailer and thought it might be worthwhile adding my thoughts here.
    I've got loads of gloves and usually buy from manufactures such as Rukka, Halvarssons or Held. I normally take a size 12 (I ordered a 3xl from the Macna sizing chart) and the gloves from the other manufactures always seem to fit well and the finger/thumb length is proportional to the size of glove ordered.
    I've been riding for donkeys years and it's generally the case that winter gloves tend to have slightly longer fingers than a summer/spring/autumn glove.
    My gloves arrived today and they fit perfectly across the palm and the general hand area, however the thumb length of the glove is extraordinarily long and the fingers are quite long (longer than any other winter glove I've ever owned)
    I'm a bit undecided whether this is a good / bad thing as the tip of a riders finger tend to be the first part to suffer from wind-chill at speed and the added length of each digit on the glove should help to potentially counteract this?
    The gloves are comfortable and the techy heating app thingy is fabulous. I've tried them out on the number 4 heat setting and I my hands were lovely and warm on a 40 minute test ride in the Northwest of the UK on a chilly November day.
    I bought the Macna Battery & Charger Gloves / Socks 12V / 3A to go with my gloves which each come as three, inline batteries.
    The battery compartment of the glove is divided into three sections and it's a bit of a faff first off trying to fit the battery into each divider. The larger single 12 volt battery looked like a bit of a lump and I thought it might be something of a hindrance when riding.
    The 3 batteries appear perfect to me and they are each slim enough to hardly notice them when on the bike.
    My right hand glove might have a bit of a manufacturing fault as it's a little difficult to slip my (normal sized) little finger in? I'm going to persevere for a couple of days hoping that it might just wear in.
    On the whole I agree with your excellent review and think these gloves are a cracking buy for winter riders or those who suffer with cold hands.
    The price for the battery and gloves is very reasonable and I would recommend viewers/readers to buy a pair.
    Cheers Craig.

    Excellent video on the Macna gloves. I love the app for the Macna gear it looks like you can group gear and set levels in the app. Since the closest competitor would be in my opinion Keis. I would like to see how they stack up and it is surprising no videos on the web give deep details about their app with multiple heated gear. And I have seen conflicting videos about the touchscreen working with the Keis gloves. Looking forward to your review of these. Hard choice between the manufacturers

    I like your reviews lads. I was looking at this glove for myself.
    My wife has the macna heated jacket and she finds it too hot and when you are riding, you can't get to the breast button. We haven't managed to link it to the app yet! I've asked macna for a handlebar mounted switch BTW.
    If you have higher bars rather than a sports bike, you wouldn't be talking about tucking all the glove under your sleeve, you really wouldn't want ice cold water running down to your elbow.

    Gentlemen, what a great video. I watched this over the course of a week due to length (not complaining as it was so in depth).
    Thanks for the great insight and I am away to purchase a pair now thanks to you guys.
    1 question: I too am a large in glove. Should I go medium or rock a large and manage the thumb?

    • @motorcyclegearreviews84
      @motorcyclegearreviews84  2 роки тому +2

      Hi Scare83crow thank you for the support and I’m glad you enjoyed the video. To answer your question if you can get down to you local bike shop that stocks Macna it would be worth it as the ‘ergo thumb’ does change the sizing. Your more than welcome to come down to Urban Nomads to try.
      That said all bike shops will allow you to return kit (excluding helmets) so if you order a large and did quite like the fit you would be able to return it for a medium. Where are you based I can help you with your nearest store.

    Great video! Finally a review about these sweet Macna gloves.
    I've bought the Electron last winter, also because of the direct laminate. I mean, what an obvious solution! Prevent the glove from soaking up rain, so the water doesn't freeze your fingers off.
    However, I do find myself struggling against the gloves when holding my grips and I don't really understand why. I know winter gloves are thicker and therefore bulkier, with more fabric to bend when bending your fingers. But sometimes it just makes it difficult to hold on to the handlebars.
    Do you know what might cause this? Did you experience this too with those Progress gloves?
    The top of the gloves is made out of leather, which appears to be pulled tight when I bend the fingers. Maybe that part still needs to be broken in. =/

    • @motorcyclegearreviews84
      @motorcyclegearreviews84  2 роки тому +1

      Hi Eelco! Thanks for your comments, and thanks for watching. Its a very tough question you pose. Without looking, the first thing, id want to double check is that the glove itself is the correct size. Did you buy the same size glove that you would ordinarily buy? Sounds like a silly question, however, we did notice that Macna's sizing was different to other brands. I think though, that you are not too far off the mark in terms of it being a winter glove and therefore being much thicker and having more fabric, which can cause some bunching. Unfortunately, this is a symptom of being a thick winter glove imo. As I type now, Dan is trying out some other winter gloves and they appear to be doing a very similar thing. It might be one of those compromises you have to get used to in winter im afraid. In other news, we are about to review another Macna heated glove this week. Stay tuned for more!

      Thank you for the reply, and such a thorough reply. I'm positively impressed!
      I never seem to remember my standard sizes, so I just went off the Macna sizing chart. It has a nasty, missing cm between L/9 and XL/9,5 and of course, that's where the size of my hand is located. So I went with the bigger one.
      Yeah, I'm afraid I'm gonna have to live with it. Maybe I should get better in riding with something like a throttle boss, or cramp buster, so I don't have to squeeze my grips so tightly.
      Looking forward to the new review! I wonder which glove this will be.
      Man, if I lived in the neighbourhood, I would definitely shop with you guys. Thanks again for the reply!

    How would you guys compare the Macna progress rtx dl with the macna electron rtx dl and the racer heat 4?
    Pricewise the racer is the most expensive around here(290 eur). Both the macna's go for around the same price (~240 eur) when including the battery on the progress rtx.
    I got the impression from magna's site that the progress rtx is a bit more beefed up and doesn't have the ergo thumb so it might not have the XL-thumb issue right? Or is the electron rtx just an older version?(would explain the discounts I see compared to the retail price on their site and lack of bluetooth connect. I guess)

    • @motorcyclegearreviews84
      @motorcyclegearreviews84  2 роки тому +1

      Hi mate, the Electron is indeed an older model, I've just checked and its not on my list of available to purchase models so I can only assume its discontinued. I havent used one or even seen one so couldnt comment. Likewise with the Racer, I havent seen it, though, racer do make very good gloves so I imagine they will be quite good. Thanks for watching and good luck on the hunt! Ride Safe brother!

    How many hours before the battery goes down?

    • @motorcyclegearreviews84
      @motorcyclegearreviews84  2 роки тому

      This depends on the heat setting used, however, on the box it says up to 6 hours on one charge. I assume that would be on the lowest setting. I estimate approx 2-3 hours on the highest settings.

    So if glove is tucked inside your jacket,rain hitting your hands can get blown by windblast up your sleeve , that glove stops water whether its running down your arm or back off your glove up your sleeve. Listening to you ,your riding sounds mainly in the city ,so water blowing up sleeve at city speeds not an issue.But on long wet motorway rides ,its an issue.

    • @motorcyclegearreviews84
      @motorcyclegearreviews84  2 роки тому

      Hey Mark thank you for the support. I do all sorts of riding in any condition at anytime on any road it is not just city riding even though I live close to London.
      But regarding the glove issue you mentioned:
      I would normally tuck my gloves under my sleeves and I’ve done this for years in fact my motorcycle instructor back in 2009 told me this and it is never been an issue with any jacket over one of water being blasted up the sleeve past the glove even at silly speeds.
      Whereas if you had normal Gore-Tex gloves with your sleeves tucked into the glove and it rained no matter the speed town or highway you would have water running off your jacket into the glove therefore bypassing the Gore-Tex membrane.
      What is so Smart about the Macne progress gloves is they get around this issue by making a double cuff one that goes under the sleeve and one that goes over the sleeve with a exhaust for any water that runs down your jacket into the outer cuff. I think this seems to get around the issue of a bulky battery underneath your sleeve.
      Only time I can see water blowing up your sleeve being an issue is if you’re wearing short cuff gloves and you’re not creating a good seal between the bottom of your sleeve and the top of your glove. This is why you’re fine most winter gloves are normally gauntlet gloves.
      I was been helpful and thank you so much for the support. 😊

      @@markmynott8217 we couldn’t agree more that the industry is heading more and more towards a fashionable disposable trend or a super technical long last highly expensive garment. That is why we really like Macna and Held as brands they offer more of what you are looking for. I would also agree that the demand of modern riders is very different to when we started riding. If you still live around the London area you should pop in sometime. It would be great to swap stories and hear your experience as a dispatched rider.
      We will definitely keep in mind longevity of kit moving forward though.

      No worries bro there are many other channels that do what you have suggested. If you look through the comments and find Craig McKay you will see that he bought the very same gloves and after riding in them came to the same conclusion that we did. No disrespect to you but Nelson has been selling motorcycle clothing for over 8 years having seen all types of customers with all types of clothing issues and successes far more than the average person would ever see. Dan on the other hand has been a motorcycle instructor for just over 5 years sometimes spending 8 to 12 hours a day on a motorcycle. He also has the chance to see kit that students bring to the school and see how it performs in real life as well as his own.
      In short a lot happened before ‘breakfast’.
      But next time we will let you know if it’s an ‘unboxing’ video, which brother many UA-camrs have had great success in.
      Thanks for the feedback though and we will keep it in mind for the future.
