This week we take a look at the Macna Centre heated Jacket and compare it to the ever faithful Keis J501 Heated Jacket. this is just part 1 one looking at the construction and fit and finish of the jackets. Due to delivery delays the cables for the Macna heated jacket didn't come in time so there will be a follow part 2 to this video.

I bought the Macna jacket and very impressed as I don’t want huge levels of heat. My only gripe is that I wish I could connect it to my Optimate battery lead like other brands.

imagine wanting to change the heat setting on the macna - do you need to unzip our bike jacket and possibly take off the glove to press the heat adjustment button on the chest - am I wrong?

You said the Macna is lighter, but how about bulk / thickness, and warmth on their own, ie when they are switched off? Are they about the same? Thanks!

An external controller is needed as you can’t turn the heat up or down when in full safety gear whilst riding if there is a button on the garment- you couldn’t get to it.

Recently purchased both the jacket and the trousers. With heated clothing it should be as close to the body as possible, a snug fit, this means a compression layer or thermal layer should be the only thing between skin and the jacket. To really enhance the performance of this jacket use a full length back protector and chest protector alpinestars offers this as part of the Nucleon KR range, this offers external compression on the jacket which makes heat transfer even more efficient, combined with a good touring jacket/zip in pants, neck gaiter and helmet curtain it will be like riding in summer.

I was going to say the same. Dan, for best results (and for an accurate sizing test), please take off your hoodie when trying heated jackets so that you only have a technical base layer (ideally) plus the heated item, under the main jacket, for a proper test of how well it heats, and fits, in that scenario! :) Good vid as usual chaps, keep up the good work! :) (I myself went for the Warm & Safe heated base layer, which is even more along the close fitting lines (I tried the Keis and Gerbing jackets and none of them fit my chunky/wide shoulders (even the larger sizes), without creating a flappy lower). The W&S is a proper base layer in it's own right, even turned off, and is nice and stretchy (something my fat belly needs... ;) ). I need to come down and have a look at the Macna range some time though, looks like some great kit there...!! :)

@@mattmutane5502 @frederick Oparah First off the hoodie itself was a very thin one, barely thicker than a good quality cotton polo, but noted for when we revisit the jacket with a battery. (Thanks to supply chain issues we're still struggling with some stock). In relation to the sizing itself, the Keiss jacket that Dan wore is a 50 which equates to a small so even in just comparison to the keiss the sizing is most definately unique to Macna, something that we've seen across the whole Macna range. In essence though, we are in agreement. Will definately have to check out some of the heated base layer offerings also. Thanks for watching, and we look forward to you visiting.

@@gbner9991 Yes - which is why I have a heated base layer (Warm & Safe) and it ROCKS!!! :D

Does the Macna have heating elements in the sleeves?

Hi Richard this is a great idea and we will definitely make a comparison video in January. In the meantime we did a video on the Macna heated progress gloves and covered all aspects of the app. Here is a link for that video.
