Take a canteen cover and a 1st aid pouch. Glue the 1st aid pouch to the canteen pouch with E6000 or other good glue. Or sew it if youve got skills. I've used E6000 . It works. I've also Rangerized a belt by removing all of the metal. Adjustment is done via 550 cord through the grommets. All clips are replaced with zip ties. One pouch that I've found to begood is the Rothco two pocket pouch. It's canvas with a belt loop, but holds a lot of stuff.
I found your channel by accident. I served in the 90s and unfortunately gave away most of my Alice gear. I'm in the process of putting together a LC-2 harness system for camping & SHTF... I loved it when you said not to buy the Chinese/Rothco "stuff" ! Using Chinese junk for an American rig would be a sin ! The hardest item to find was the genuine issue Butt pack. I found the 3 day Training Pack in "woodland", used but cherry on eBay. Now all I need are two SAW mag pouches. You did it up right with these videos ! One suggestion as alternative to holes in the foam padding, are nylon velcro or snap belt keepers that are made/used for the all nylon police duty belts
One shepard out of Missouri, they are a force on force training college for leadership course and being ready for shtf,( my guess). I'm starting to train up for possibly next year. My surgeon just cleated me for training.
The yoke from a LBV has the same 1 inch hardware as the Y harness so if you strip a LBV yoke, use the webbing from the Y harness, replace the metal clips with 550 cord and add a belt pad it's a very comfortable upgrade.
yeah; seen a couple people on UA-cam or gear forums do the same thing... I'm pretty much a "standard-issue" kinda guy; I don't modify anything too heavily, but to each his own-- if it's good for you, then go ahead! (it wouldn't fly on active duty though lol; they want everyone looking the same).
Yeah I have a friend whos old man was NSW back in the late 80s and 90s and they pretty much did whatever they wanted. Amazing what you can do with a riggers loft and a lot of excess gear to play with. Still see some of those classic chop shop rigs pop up here and there on eBay and such. Cool stuff.
look up M1910 hangers... the M1910 cartridge belt used wire hangers to attach other items by threading them through the eyelets on the belt. They kept the holes on later-issue belts, simply because a lot of M1910 gear was still in the supply system.. so you can use both ALICE and M1910 items
You didn't cover the First Aid kit. The OD Green nylon pouch with the plastic box inside. Where did you carry that? On your Pistol belt or on your buttpack or rucksack?
silentthunder85: Thanks man, I appreciate your service, and these were good videos. Most people regard the ALICE gear as antiquated now, and everyone looks to the cool guy stuff, but imo for "Boonierat" warfare this is the stuff I want.
silenthunder85 how would you access it in an emergency then? Also, you should make more of these. Specifically for modifications of the lbe and Alice pack.
well, depending on how large your waist is you're limited on how much stuff you can carry on your pistol belt beyond the normal ammo pouches, canteens and buttpack, so you have to get creative when it comes to the first aid kit, I'm not sure where the Army "prescribed" to have it at.
i was looking at surplus alice gear and saw both m16 and m14 pouches. the m16 pouch was the 3 30 round pouch like in this video and the m14 pouch is canvas with what looks to be a metal buckle like on the butt pouch. but could i fit 2 m14 mags in the m16 pouch and vice versa?
not entirely sure-- there were several variations of each (singles/doubles/etc; canvas/nylon) and I'd have to see it to know what you mean... here's some pics though. Keep in mind (most) anything canvas is M1956 web gear, and nylon was the later M1967 web gear. There were also pouches in both canvas & nylon that held 4-20rd M16 mags (you see these a lot in "We Were Soldiers"). Google searches and Google Image searches will usually help you find what you're looking for. the m14 i saw was the double mag m1956 pouch in canvas according to the description, and the m16 pouches that i own are the m1967 and id say they feel like nylon. and is the pouch with the m1 garand clips, the m1956 m14 pouch?
I've got a question, I was at training last weekend and I was rolling full-loadout with my alice gear, and all last week my back was killing me and my alice gear was properly adjusted, do you know what could have caused that?
I watched your video on the Alice packs and I noticed that when using this old LBE the buttpack interferes with the Alice pack, especially when you ride it up that high. Was the LBE worn without the buttpack when a ruck was in use, or was there a way to interface the two sets of kit? Thanks for the video!
I usually wore my LBE above the hips like in the vid, but would lower it to my waist when wearing the ruck.. just adjust the suspender straps. Throw the ruck on over the buttpack-- a lot of people complained about it but I found it kinda comfy; see the beginning of my PASGT vid for demonstration. Thanks!
i just bought a field training pack not like either of the 2 you talk about. it has the same metal clips and looks like the 2nd one you show with no grommets on the flap and no draw string inner thing its just like the m1976's inner cover but this is a 1994 pack.
I know you want to be the "bad ass" but if this video is intended to instruct it doesn't work. Bottom line .... do want to show off or help people ? Slow down and explain yourself more fully.

love this guy with his cig.
🙂
Typical U.S. Army vet from ten years ago. Love it.
holy crap I had no idea they made PB extenders. thanks
Me either, need a couple. I use one plastic ,one stainless canteen on my setup.
Great video, great information, low drama and minimal swagger. Thanks for posting and thank you for your service!

Awesome video. There is alot of people including myself who are interested in seeing more extensive footage on this topic.
Wow man ! I love the vids, probably the best I've ever seen. I love my ALICE gear and have had it for a long time. Awesome, please more vids!
H style suspenders are the way to go

i remove the alice clips and use 550 cord to hold my pouches very much quieter and more comfortable
Never knew the alice belt had a pad. But your idea on the sleep pad was brilliant.
Very nice, staring one belt today, will update you once complete.
Thanks for the help on setting it up and thank you for your service.
Wasn't the old saying "nose to the toes, brass to the grass" for placing loaded magazines in the small arms pouches?
Depending on where you get it but this stuff ain't cheap I can tell you that but it is very dependable and it's worth having

Good stuff here, thanks bud.
My man, where are you ? Haven't uploaded in 8 years? You good?
what is the point of the holes on the belt. i have always put the clips around the entire belt
look up M1910 hangers... the M1910 cartridge belt used wire hangers to attach other items by threading them through the eyelets on the belt. They kept the holes on later-issue belts, simply because a lot of M1910 gear was still in the supply system.. so you can use both ALICE and M1910 items
The M-7 bayonet scabbard still retained the belt hooks. Pretty damn hard sometimes putting it onto an LC-2 belt. Fits the M-1956 belt better.
You didn't cover the First Aid kit. The OD Green nylon pouch with the plastic box inside. Where did you carry that? On your Pistol belt or on your buttpack or rucksack?
Didn't have one at the time, but it's attached to the buttpack.. no room on the belt lol

SneakyShika I believe it is-- just showing what other items will fit besides M14 mags. Glad I could help!
thank you. now when i actually get to buying one (who knows when that will be) i have to decide if i want an m1a or an m1 garand.
if you cut the webbing inside the m16 pouches you can get 2 m14 mags in them
I've got a question, I was at training last weekend and I was rolling full-loadout with my alice gear, and all last week my back was killing me and my alice gear was properly adjusted, do you know what could have caused that?
I’m about 7 years too late, but you probably had too much weight on the shoulders, too much weight in the back, or just too much weight in general
you could also replace the D rings with grimlocks
grimlocks are polymer.. which to me means "plastic" lol I guess I just prefer metal
Awesome!
What size is your pistol belt pad, medium or large? How many inches long is it?
I think it's a medium; 35" and made by Blackhawk
I watched your video on the Alice packs and I noticed that when using this old LBE the buttpack interferes with the Alice pack, especially when you ride it up that high. Also thanks. Your videos are the best ones out there on Alice.
where can you find the belt pad at?
scare items these days, since ALICE gear is no longer standard issue.. Blackhawk makes one; idk.. Google searches lol
