Sidechain compression is such a stylish and fun effect! In today's video I use my modular to send a gate out to the Really Nice Compressor to create some pumping deep house beats.
I've had the RNC (FMR Audio) for a while now after getting a recommendation from Steve Albini (not personally lol). Having a hardware compressor has allowed me to experiment and learn compression hands-on and I can "hear" compression way better now!
Big shout out to the RD-8 as well for sounding so damn good!

Think you are supposed to use a TRS to dual TS breakout cable into the the sidechain input.
i'm using a volca kick to trigger the side chain, but it's not working (no pumping effect). any tips?

cheers man! I've not really looked into ways to clock the OP1... I just make sure to hit play on the OP1 at the same time as my other gear :D
I just looked it up apparently they have a module version of it as well but it’s like double the price. I’m definitely considering getting this!

@@TheUnperson the only thing is I wasn’t sure if it was Eurorack or maybe buchla didn’t have time to research. Plus too expensive for me.
@@planetplex I did a search and I think it's not actually a modular synth format.. it's just a studio rack FX. Looks cool tho!
I have this compressor too and had issues getting the sidechain to work. Do you think a balanced TRS cable would work for the sidechain so it doesn't have to be sticking out?
that's an idea actually... I haven't tried it but maybe! I guess I could try reading the manual too lol

I hve the left and right out of the moduler going to the left and right input of the RNC. To get the sidechain going just insert a signal into the sidechain input :)

Since i heard Albini say that i made up my mind. that man has 10 k compressors and still thinks its worth to have in his studio why shouldnt i ahaha
