Thank you young man. I am 74 year old woman and I am trying to learn about my well. I was able to change out the carburetor on a generator and am hoping to learn about all the things that can go wrong on a well and we'll pump. Thanks again!
Woke up to no water, checked pump it was running ,black hose from switch to well was off, replaced switch now it wont kick in by itself, will engage with the side bar on the pressure switch, help i am stumped
I’m not sure why I’m drawn to your channel, but this ole engineer finds your content fascinating. God bless you and keep treating people kindly and fairly (as you always seem to do).
Sir. I'm so very glad to have watched all three of your videos. I'm 68 and an 80% disabled vet of 20 and a 1/2 years. I do not have water at the moment. After watching you, I am more than confident that I can resolve my issues. Semper Fi.
It's funny that you post this one, I just had to replace my tank Saturday!! It had gotten water logged!! As a kid, we had a cistern and a steel tank, it would get water logged and I'd have to get down in the pit, and use a hand tire pump to put air in the tank!! Don't miss those days!! At least this tank lasted about 30 years!! Hope this new one will last at least half that!! Thanks for taking the time to record, edit and to post!! Oh yes, a well organized service truck is key to Great service work!! (Did electrical service work for years, liked to have as much on my truck as I could!!)
hand tire pump, so you have arms larger than a body builder! 🤣 I recall trying to pump one full of air using a foot type pump, after both legs turned to jello and nearly fell off, we waited for an air compressor the next day.
I've known these bladders to rupture in less than a year, and been quoted half the tank cost for a replacement. I keep mine going, just outside the back door, in the pumphouse, by pressuring it twice a week. The pump switches used to last the life of the pump, maybe 15 years, but not any more. My original secondhand 60s tank, 60 gallon, was 1/4" plate, no bladder, still going strong in 2012 when I sold up 👋 🏖️ 😎
Thank you my friend! Wow! I can’t tell you how scary this all seemed to me before I saw your videos- now I feel confident and I already diagnosed my first issue with total clarity! Thanks for being such a good instructor! Cheers
I want to thank you for your very informed videos!!! I own a Manufactured Home Installation business licensed in the states of Nevada and California ! And I agree with you 100% that this administration is encouraging people to stay home and not work!! I'm having trouble finding good help!! I also want to thank you for your videos on installing bladder tanks!!! I own a summer cabin in Northern California that is well fed!! I noticed fluctuations in water pressure, so I came upon on one of your videos that problem solved that problem which is a bad bladder tank!! By watching your video on bladder tank installation I was able to take out and reinstall a new bladder tank with brand new parts!!! Thank you very much!!!!
Im really surprised you didnt test those wires to make sure there was no power. I realize the breaker was turned off ,but many a electricion has been killed after the breaker was turned off.
Great to watch a skilled professional work. Many self claimed professionals are not at all skilled. They say ,,I got a pipe wrench so I am a plumber, I got a hammer so I am a carpenter! They don't know , they don't care.
perfect place for sharkbite fittings. I hate using them, but have used them on well tanks and other solid/tightly plumbed items, including 1" pvc to copper/pex sharkbite, talk about hard fittings to find locally! I wanted to touch the old probably brittle pvc as little as possible and not have to worry about cement set times. second option was run 100 feet of new poly or pex pipe across the basement, which was half finished and everything painted, including the pvc pipe. using three shark bite fittings there saved hours to multiple days of labor, the customer liked the cheaper bill, but I still hate them. 🙃
Organization efforts like that pay off in spades!! If you stay organized like that, you know well enough ahead that you are running low on this or that fitting, or clamp. Get it refilled while not out under a sweltering heat with a rain storm blowing in on you. THAT was stressful and you zipped right through it! Loved the pot as a parts kit!! Never would have had that as a thought... complete with handle!!
I would hate to have to service well equipment like you just did in this video! My old legs could not take it. My well pump and tank is located in tbe basement and here in Michigan, thats a huge plus.
I watch alot of your videos very informative On 1 of your other videos you said that you like to clean up the job better than you found it but I noticed on this job you left the extra old tank in the crawl space
That was a job well done. The only thing that I would have done different was to clean up the site more than when I first showed up. Removing that other tank would have been a bonus for the land lord to see that you care about how the job site looks after you leave. Keep up the good work.
I was told that the sewage line broke & dumped toilet water under the home for weeks (6 months prior) everything I thought was mold, was actually lime. I wasn't going to touch anything that was left under there. SERVPRO was called in for the cleanup and repair. They charged 8K, they should have cleaned it up in my opinion.
You r very good ,the electric…,didn’t strip back the ground on the Rx,ground is a life saver, very important!,,and the yellow and red in the Rx connector,NO,the connector cuts into the insulation.the wht in the line side paint it blk w/ a sharpi, for handyman that not know and think is a neutral, apart from that thank you very much for the teaching
Hey, Like your vids a lot as they are informative. But I have question. Why use hard line pvc and not the flexible pex tube? I ask as it would save cost and time.
09:42 My OCD likes your organized parts. 10:52 At least the parts carrier handle won't get in the way when digging out the parts. 13:13 What PVC cement do you use so that you don't have to wait hours before applying water pressure?
My grandaddy would say our tank was water logged . And we would turn on the water hose outlet and put air the tank at the same time. It was ok after that.
Thank u for ur video. Looks like I have to replace pressure switch. Besides switching power off, and taking it off Cooper tube. Will the pressure in the tank come out. Thanks
I can tell you are a good plumber for a young man! I would recommend some good knee pads you like or some kind of kneeling pad, i tore my cartilage in my knee when I was young and had to have 2 surgeries and the Dr. told me to permanently avoid work that entailed squatting, kneeling or deep knee bends. So my life took a very quick down turn for the worse. Also my question for you is i have a main waterline from the pressure tank to the house that is prone to quick freezing. Even when I had the water running a little bit from both sinks, and had 2 heat lamps in a very small well house, what can I do to keep it from refreezing once it thaws? I do have water from the spiccet by the pressure tank, so I think the well and pressure tank are fine. The wire contacts are not locked and I get good pressure with a tire gauge from the top of the pressure tank and no water spraying out of it. I subscribed to your channel and gave you a like. If you would please let me know? Thanks
I live in fort Myers Florida. we just experienced hurricane Milton whle the storm was happening one of our water pipes broke in turn made us not have any water since then we replace the water pipe replaced the switch we have replaced the bladder tank we have replaced the breaker to the well but the switch is staying engaged but pump is still shutting off can you please give me an avenue of why or what to do hopefully hear from you soon and thank you for any information you can help us with greatly appreciated
The home I bought has the well buried under my driveway. The well pump wire (red, black, and yellow) comes into the basement then to a box. In this box the well pump wire connects tow romex 12/2 wire…the black is unconnected, the yellow connects to the 12/2 white, and the red wire connects to the 12/2 black. From there the wires run to the pressure tank then to a fuse box. From the fuse box an old round paper looking wire runs to a breaker on the panel box. 1. Should I remove the fuse box since it’s protected by a breaker? 2. Should I have the 12/2 wire and old wire to the panel box upgraded to 10/2? Thanks for your helpful videos and feedback!
Hey bud I got a problem with a property I have the pump went out. It's not pump in the ground that is working filling the 5500 gallon tank. Anyways so I took the pump off and replace it with a pool pump on it. Cause it's all I had and can afford it the moment , so it's all hooked up and it comes on . My questions is does a pool pump put enough pressure out to give it enough pressure to shut the switch to off cause it stays running and won't shut off unless click the breaker . Pain in the but but I can deal with the wife is not happening . When I click it off with the switch by pushing up on the bottom where the screw adjustment is but when I do it seems as if it is loosing pressure fast . Is it the pressure from the pump or what . Please help thanks Pete
Do you write on a new tank or pressure switch the date of installation, pressure in the tank and/or the kick on/kick off setting for the switch? I am not a plumber, but I have done this for repairs at my property or when helping someone replace a tank or switch. i think it can help in future with diagnosing a problem even though pressure setting is inside cover of the switch.
So I spent all night last night installing a new pressure tank. I moved from the well to under the house. This is the 3rd tank in a few short years. My well goes down 50 feet and water at 25 feet and the pump is at around 30 feet. Then it comes up in to the pit then there were blocks and some bricks that the tank and pressure switch sat on. I replaced all the fittings and cleaned it up when I first bought the house. The bottom busted off the bottom of the tank. I chauked it up as it was old when it was not very old. It had just sat unused for several years. So I replaced it with a 20 gallon pressure tank and installed brand new water line in to the house when I had other work done. I was going out for a walk and passed by the pit to hear water rushing in it. We still had water and it was working just fine and who knows how long it was running. It had busted off the bottom of the tank as well. No rust. Looks like it was metal fatigue. My best guess is when the well kicks on it has such a violet jerk that it caused it to fail. So I moved it to under the house where it is over 100 less feet away and 75 of it is underground. There should not be any more movement from the tank in this new location. Do you think that was the problem or do you think it was just a bad tank?
good morning, it the pressure switch aligned with the pressure pump? I live in the us virgin islands and we get our water supply from the rain. all components are outdoors. what so I do
Pump fires up and replaced the pressure switch but have no pressure on gage. Any thoughts of what’s wrong? Tanks hold’s pressure and put on a new gage. Still doesn’t work
So i have no pressure on my tank. When i flick the pressure switch it sparks. I can push on my tank and it moves no problem. But when i try to add air, nothing happens. The air isn't going into tank at all. Any suggestions? I have a 42 gallon tank with a 20 40 switch
I'd like to ask what does something like this cost? Im having problems with mine right now. My water is cloudy and it has never done this before. Im pretty sure the pressure switch is continuing to click in and out when the water is on. I had to have a used tank put in not long ago because the bottom rusted outta of the old one and it was leaking. Had to get used one because Im on disability so limited income. Just would like a ball park figure. Thank you!
Very well made video, learned about proper cut in and cut out pressure in relation with pressure tank pressure, but i do have a question. Does improper cut in/out pressure cause bladder in pressure tank to fail ? Disclaimer, as much as i would like to hire you, im in asia so its impossible, and here we dont really have a licensed pump mechanic or plumber, most installer just have pressure switches at factory setting, situation is so bad that i just choose to do it myself from learning on youtube where the pros shows how things are supposed to be done. So heres the situation, Over the years ive had multiple bladder failure, before we go further, our utility dont provide pressurized water, so the water supply have to be pumped into a holding tank before then pumped again to be distributed all around the house, a few days ago i found that my pessure switch is by default set to 20/40 while the gas pressure of the membrane tank is 28.5psi, i just set it to 30/50, cant help but wonder if that 20/40 have something to do with the bladder failures or is it just bad quality, thanks in advance
Sewage line broke under the home, Servpro was hired to do the cleanup & repair for 8 Grand. They left everything basically how I found it. I wasn't touching anything that was laying in the "mud". I thought about it til the renter explained what had happened 6 months prior.
My wife and I woke up to no water pressure in our house. We’ve been having what we thought was Hydrostatic Pressure Infiltration Into our basement. But I just discovered that when we lost the pressure in our well tank, we also lost the water flowing into our basement. I will be checking the pressure tank according to your vids. Any Thoughts or Suggestions Or Information Would be Greatly Appreciated!!!! I Need Help!!! ASAP! I have taken a few photos of the Pressure Tank And Tank Switch and Box that has the Reset Button that has all of the Information. Please Help!!! Thank You!!! Awesome Videos By The Way!!!
Whenever I fill the bathtub, my water cuts off and I have to reset the switch. It’s only the bathtub. I can run a shower for 30 minutes no problem, I guess it’s cutting off when it’s a lot of water. Do you think it’s the switch or that the tank needs more air?
Hey I’m having problems with my system I changed the pressure switch because it wasn’t cutting off and it wasn’t that, then I changed the tank because water was coming out of the tank stem and my pressure switch still not stopping😢 I don’t have any leaks anywhere and toilet is fine I ran out of ideas..pls help 😊
I replaced my tank a couple of months ago because it was bad. Since then it had to continuously reset my pressure switch every so often due to no water/pressure at the house. I went ahead and replaced the 40/60 pressure switch thinking it might be the fix because I couldn’t dial my old pressure switch setting in correctly from a 40/70 setting. The issues still persists. My tank is set at 38. Any ideas? Thx
New sub here. I had to subscribe to your channel; you put out great content. Right now, my mother has extremely low water pressure at her property (It's a mobile home on 2.5 acres). Long story short, I'm an HVAC Tech, not a plumber. I watched a few UA-cam videos, and immediately put a tire pressure gauge on her tank. It read 0psi (She doesn't have a gauge anywhere on her system to determine the pressure within.) I connected my air compressor to it and injected up to 25psi of air into the tank. I don't want to put anymore than that though, at least until I can fully understand how the entire system works. I don't want to have to end up replacing shit because I damaged something. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!
I only have 20lb of pressure - I just changed pressure switch- checked the pressure tank and zero air in it - when i added air to the pressure tank I could hear it leaking on the inside of the tank ! Hoping it's just the pressure tank now !

Was curious why you left behind the other pressure tank that was laying there.
Sewage line broke under the home, Servpro was hired to do the cleanup & repair for 8 Grand. They left everything basically how I found it. I wasn't touching anything that was laying in the "mud". I thought about it til the renter explained what had happened 6 months prior.
Is that 434 area code out of Virginia?
Excellent fix 👍
Hey I’m having problems with my system I changed the pressure switch because it wasn’t cutting off and it wasn’t that, then I changed the tank because water was coming out of the tank stem and my pressure switch still not stopping😢 I don’t have any leaks anywhere and toilet is fine I ran out of ideas..pls help 😊
Did you find out? I’m having the same issue
Any ideas? Thx
I've had several bladder tanks fail. In warranty, fortunately.
I cut the top out and turn them into a burn barrel or big trash can or something.
you are a good man. Thank you
So why did you have to drill holes? Why didn’t all the water not drain out the bottom once you cut the valve stem off?
@TotallyWayno the rubber Bladder inside fails & it falls to the bottom. It blocks the hole in the bottom and prevents water from flowing out.
So what about the other tank laying on its side already under the house?
Is this the third tank? Why do the tanks keep failing?!
Why'd you leave the other old tank?
always mark them wires before removing them from the control switch
What kind of pipe were you using the clamps on and what is a good brand pressure tank?
That was PEX-b.
How much does it cost to replace the water tank and pressure tank?
How many of those Square D switches have you had that you could not loosen the screws?
Only 1 I've thrown away so far, but its like Pop-Eye on the assembly line is tightening them with a impact gun 😆
Thanks!
Do you like that pex hose and clinch clamps better than regular PVC,? To me the fittings really restrict the volume of water greatly
GREAT JOB THANKS
Any reason you dont use fiberglass tanks? Alot lighter especially when your under a house.
The steel tanks are super light. I just did one last night.
Please give me a link to that crimp pliers ! 😘
Lowes sells them. Pex crimp ring tool. For Stainless steel rings
Why is the gauge sitting at 10PSI? So it pumped up to 54-10=44, right?
It's those quality products we're getting these days!
I only have 20lb of pressure - I just changed pressure switch- checked the pressure tank and zero air in it - when i added air to the pressure tank I could hear it leaking on the inside of the tank ! Hoping it's just the pressure tank now !
Technically it’s an “open” not a short. But everyone calls it a short. :)
