Get a piece of coated wire, bend it over at the outside end (maybe temporarily tape the J-hook in place) and pull on it while you install the inside rubber sleeve ;)
9:30- You're right. I'm thinking you should have scrubbed the wall clean before you drilled through!!! LOL
Look into 3" ID Black Heat Shrink Tube. You could heat shrink both ends as a final cover over all the caulking

When I saw that red clay come out of the waterline ditch, I knew you were in Virginia. We're in central Virginia and that red clay is everywhere; hiding just under the surface of the topsoil. I've been waiting a year for my well driller to show up; think I'll give you a call and see how far you are willing to travel to drill a well. I like your attention to detail and how clear you keep your commentary. Your step-by-step description of what you are doing and why is concise and to the point. You don't waste any time with unnecessary chatter and I find your presentation to be easy to listen to and filled with lots of information. Great job.
Is there a reason why you don't run the same Black PVC Pipe that you use in the well casing?. Then drill your entrance hole for that, then use Bentenite to get your water tight seal? Also when drilling a hole through concrete. Only drill halfway through the exterior wall. Then finish the hole from the inside. That way you'll prevent that Big Blowout. Just wondering?
My favorite channel of all, your videos are the best. I'm a retired plumber, (38 yrs), down here in Texas, I also ran a water company, and plumbing/well supply store all in one. You're very good at your job, but I can also tell someone with plenty years on their belt taught you all the old tricks, like never laying a fitting down under stress, backfilling pipe in place before finishing the fittings, spitting on that NP1 to smooth it out. You said you would always go with a PVC male into a PEX female for crack resistance, I'm the opposite, I'll go with a sch. 40 female and male PEX fitting, some Rectorseal #5, and just don't torgue it down like a cap bolt.😁 I see it's mostly bladder tanks where you are, down here it's mostly galv. pressure tanks. I've done thousands of service calls on topside well work, , , air volume controls, check valves, Schrader valves, pressure switches, (ants in pressure switches). Here in Texas you're supposed to have a Pump Installers license to pull a pump, (any work in the hole), so we always contracted that. I think your viewers might be interested in learning how a pressure tank set-up is different from bladder tank set-up, anyway, I'll shut up, but again your channel is the best.
Laying a fitting down under stress will get you a service call a few year later, more work.
Pex was not highly used when I was a plumber. We used either PVC, CPVC, copper or galvanized pipe depending on the installation. Schedule 40 was mostly used for residential and schedule 80 for commercial.
You need to add the wall insulation back in the wall cavity

It's nice tho that customers can see the care you put into your work by watching these videos! I like the fact that you explain things, offer tips, hey, stop thinking what you're probably thinking!🤣and you even have some appropriate music playing in the background softly so we can still hear you just fine. I think you should easily have a lot more subscribers, you provide good information, obviously know your craft, just overall good videos!
I just wondered, with that still being an exterior wall, if code requires you to insulate that portion of the water line. I also don't like those plastic PEX fittings. Some locales here will only accept brass.
Great job, I don't know why the contactor wouldn't install the PVC pipe when they poured the concrete? It would have made your job so much easier. They must have known that water needed to enter the the building. Love you're video, thanks for all you do. Would like to see a video on Jet pumps.

Man that looks like a pain in the ass to do all that and messy caulk..we use a bag of bentonite and make a dough ball and throw some more dry on it before backfilling. Never once had a leak. Looks to add about an hour to the job and I've not had any luck in the past with your way. If it works thats awesome man.

Now one thing I would do different is to add in a conduit for teh electrical cables all the way to the well head, that way you can simply pull out a faulty cable and snake in a new one if / when it needs replacing in the future without having to rip it all out of the ground again.
Any reasons not to use conduit for the electric cables in the ground?
Because the wire will basically last forever. No movement. Unless its severed by digging. Running conduit is a waste of $$
You are correct about plastic elbows. They suck.
I can tell you are in a 'warmer' part of the country. Here the min depth is 4 ft for trenches. Then we had a few -20F days / nights this year. (worst was a few years back at -28F with chills of -45F or so) Nice seeing how you put in systems there compared to ours around here. Take care , hope the crew / family and you are doing well.

Nice looking work. In Ohio, we also must have a sample port for raw water. Ours are either on the tank tee or in the piping ahead of any conditioning/treatment equipment, since we have pitless adapters everywhere. Thanks for sharing 👍

I’ve always been very interested in well drilling having had many wells & bores drilled for many of my customers!
But none were drilled& cased with PVC pipe like you do in your country! Here in New Zealand without ground strata being mostly volcanic thick walled steep pipe is used because of likely cave ins! Beneath our ground surfaces are often a grey papa like substance that can be either soft or hard! Very hard like concrete! That can take someone with a heavy sharp spade to dig down 6 inches square hole & can take a human more than one hour to get six inches deep! Almost impossible to dig a-post hole in solid papa!
So imagine trying to bore a well or bore going through this material!
With that being said a bore hole being cased in PVC would collapse over time with current earth quakes that this country often has being on the ring of fire. That’s why most bores are cased with thick walled steel pipe!
But I am truly impressed with your skills & thorough workmanship young man!

I was just about the ask about the lack of pitiless adapters before you briefly talked about it. The test port can be extended up from the pitless adapter via a hydrant type valve that will drain the water into the ground when closed. With the freezing temperature disaster in Texas and crazy weather patterns, it might be time to reconsider.

Same here in the northern US. They have such a mild climate in the south US their codes are much more less restricted.

You do very clean work.
Doing this for a living and seeing how it gets done in other places is mind blowing. I cannot imagine ever using PVC underground. It must work but the idea of joints underground is crazy. We have 4' of frost here though, so the pipes have much more movement. We use 100lb poly with no joints save at the house and well. Also two wire pumps and non union tank, especially when using glued PVC in. Tank swaps must be fun.
How deep do you bury your poly pipe?
Exactly. No PVC, I ran 1500 ' of 1 1/2' HDPE Polyethylene Pipe. Wall thickness was .173. And it was/is Blue (even better). Flexible and rugged.
Almost everyone here in the South used PVC underground. We don't have many more than 3-5 weeks spent below freezing during winter, and the days are spread out and not continuous.
You should see Australian plumbing, a lot of it is left ABOVE grade, that blew my mind even being from the deep south. Lol
@@crabmansteve6844 Australia?? You ever watch them run service to a house in a Third World Country? One wire- they use dirt for the return path.Unbelievable. I live in the Midwest. A plumber (50+) told me never glue a fitting that's underground and if you use o-ring snap joints built concrete supports at each end to keep the pipes from spreading apart over time. Above ground is easier to repair when/not if it breaks.

Would it be a better installation if the pump wiring used a separate waterproof entrance to the house? This would assure a better seal around the pipe?

If you want to be pedantic about holes in walls from out to in the in side should always be above outside helps prevent water running in .
How does that exposed pipe not freeze? Also, 90% of people plant bushes around the house, I need to be deep enough to prevent anyone from hitting it accidentally.

Do you provide a drawing of the layout external pipe and wires? For example in reference to the house corner…
Plumbers use plastic pex fittings on well systems. We see a lot of dezincification in brass pex fittings on well water. It's probably happening to your well brass fittings too, but since they are larger than your average pex fitting it takes longer to show up.
A issue I noticed was where the pipes were notched into the top plates. It appeared as though the notches weren’t deep enough and nail protection plates would not be able to be installed. I’ll assume that the pipes will be insulated. One suggestion I’d make is that you lay some metallic identification tape a foot above your pipe prior to burying it. You never know what future projects might involve excavation.
I couldn't cut the notches any deeper (in the basement I assume you mean) behind the notch/foam was the superior wall (cement) . Unfortunately little planning goes into design when it comes to the incoming water line. Must do the best you can & make the inspector happy.
Great video and I have enjoyed very much the wealth of information. I am confused on something though. If the well is 165 feet deep why was the pump lowered only to 60 feet? I'm sure there is a good reason just seems like a lot of depth not used though.
If the static water level is high end in the well, there's no need to set the pump deep. In this case, it keeps the pump inside the pvc casing and drastically reduces sediment issues
That’s all great but the home owner paid to have the well drilled down 165’? I just got a quote to have a well drilled. Anything over 100’ is $40 a foot’. That’s another $2,600 in Ohio!

They are special order item from my distributor. Not truly necessary, but added protection.
Why didn’t you hold the interior entrance ell closer to the inside so the drywall would fit over the studs, top and bottom. It looks like your pipe is going to interfere with the drywall installation.
It is awesome that you own a excavator but a trencher is ten times faster.

I'm buying property with a well that hasn't been used in 20+ years. I saw the pit, it has a few feet of water and a floating pressure tank in it. I'm guessing the well was drilled 50+ years ago. Do you think the well casing is still good? Do you think there is a rating plate someplace with the well data on it? The property is next to farmers fields. Whats the best tests to do to the water. Oh, it's in Pennsylvania.

I do believe they make special termination fittings for passing through concrete. Much cleaner. But you do what works. That pcv to pex transition scares me. I would of run uponor pex all the way to the well head. It's illegal to use pvc for water distribution in a home in Michigan. If it passes inspection, go for it.
OK bought my pressure tank switch and would love that you would carry the pressure gage .and also a 40 gallon pressure tank .I had to buy one of those terrible square D garbage ones that never last because my pressure switch when taking it off was all clogged up with stuff from my well , cleaned it but it did not work so was forced to buy the square D one that I hate, but bought yours because I know this one will not last a year , they never do NEVER DO They corrode away . I got your 40/60 switch which is what I had

It looks like you put solid PVC directly from the buried lines to the wellhead. No clamps, no flex. So how would you ever pull the pump? (cut the PVC?). I hope I missed something.....

I lived where they said it never freezes here, Then it froze and pipes broke everywhere. Cost people a lot of money and aggravation. Some people didn't get water for 3 days. Medioker work at best.

I used to install and service huge systems in factories, hospitals, institutional installations, and Government facilities like Oak Ridge Tennessee, Rockwell International, General Mills, and University of Tennessee. The biggest water softeners that I maintained were 40' trailers of which there were four running 24/7 at Alcoa Aluminum in Alcoa, Tennessee. I also installed and maintained thousand of residential systems. I was bitten working in a crawl space and spent ten days in ICU and lost my job because the company said they could not hold my job for the two months that I was bed ridden and recuperating. One week before i was bitten I received a employee of the year award! Tennessee is a right to work state and this means that The employer has a right to work you to death. Should have been a professional welfare recipient LOL!

I'm curious about the flexible electrical conduit you used at the pressure tank. It looks like Ultratite Flexible PVC Conduit, but what fittings did you use on the ends? Did you just use cement where the flex conduit enters the solid PVC riser conduit? And what fitting is on the pressure switch end?
I really like the approach you used where the water pipe and pump cable penetrates the foundation! Great waterproofing. Even though it's not that far below ground level, water often flows between the outer foundation wall and the nearby earth and could easily lead to leaks into the basement. Your technique really looks like it would stop that. Very nice!!!
What about frost depth? or is freezing not a problem at that site? one place my landlord had a minimal trench depth and just got some heat tape sort of a lame job.
It's about 8" here. Not bad. Our pipe depth is required 18". We normally put it 24" deep.

Do you guys normally not install a check valve in the incoming line to the pressure tank?
No. Never. It prevents pressure from pushing against the pumps check valve. If it was one near the tank & the pumps check didn't seal 100% then you'd get air in the water line's.
While I follow your logic in the wire placement. right angle bends in wire are discouraged. A gentle curve avoids thermal stressing and fatigue.

I'm surprised that you can use PVC inside the home. PVC is illegal to use around here on the interior of the home since it releases harmful chemicals in a fire. Why do you use PVC at the well? It can't resist freezing and cracks extremely easy. Pex is much more resilient. I'm not saying you're doing anything wrong, just can't believe it's allowed in your area.

Just do the wall punch hole\\
Put in expaning foam on the pipe and the hole
Let the foam expand and cure done
May be just maybe coat the out side with a sealer but that is no nessary due to the un drilled wall is not sealed/
Over kill and way way to many failure points. and Glue failue is the worst point of all that work.

Electric wire goes in its own separate pipe, not straight in the ground. How in hell is anybody going to change it in case of problems. Very poor work.
Umm you don't change the wire by putting it through the same hole.. you just pop another hole if the wire goes bad shallower..
Why the hell are the water lines so damn small in a new construction like that?
