A quick tip.....if after taping the side of the expansion tank listening for a change in the tone which defines water at the bottom and air in the top if you cannot make out a difference in tone take a small screwdriver and press the air valve atop the tank for a second and if you get water shoot out it means the diaphragm in the tank has ruptured with NO FIX...it has to be replaced .

I suppose that can be why my pressure valve reads 100 and has rusted on top of it. It could be that my pressure is all the way up for cutoff. Ill verify that as is done in the video then look for this

Very helpful. I added an expansion tank to my RV and neglected the home. This video showed me how to correct my tank bladder pressure and adjust the springs for cut on and off on the well pump. My whole system was way out of balance. Bladder at 24 psi. Cut on at 41 psi. Cut off at 58 psi. It should have been a 30/50 with the bladder at 28. Thanks for showing us how to get this done.
Also, code here is to have a disconnect within a few feet of the well pump pressure switch so instead of going to my breaker panel to turn it on and off I just used that disconnect.

Mark, thanks so much for the video....its been quite a while since I was on a well system (1997), and have been on another one going on two years now. My pressure switch has never worked correctly, cycling on and off every 3 or 4 seconds until pressure was restored; it finally broke the cutoff contacts loose. I did manage to find the tiny spring and the contacts on the floor, after much searching, and put them back in place, placed a drop of solder to act as a holding nut, adjusted the cut on and cut off springs (much thanks to you), and restored the power. The pump came on, just humming a happy tune, and ran for about five minutes before cutting off. I believe it's fixed. Thanks a bunch.

Great video! I just have one thing to add. I was having pressure switch issues so I shut the breaker off and cleaned the contacts using a tiny file and some electrical contact cleaner spray. Well when I turned the breaker back on and the switch cut in the arc started a fire from the residual contact cleaner. It was pretty scary hahaha but I was able to put it out, so make sure any cleaning solvent has evaporated before energizing!

    • @GeorgeRost

Very important to fully dry-off any type of solvent specially in confined space where fumes can accumulate! Put a fan on to provide air circulation so that the fumes can't settle in one spot, not just in this case, but in any situation where a substance that gives off flammable fumes!

Awesome video, great explanation and video clarity. If I may suggest sharing with the viewers ‘why’ the tank pressure is at 28 psi and that if you had a 20-40 or 40-60 you wouldn’t want it to be 28psi. To share that it must be 2psi differential from whatever kick on pressure is. 👍🏼
Really appreciate you sharing with us.

Yes, i had a guy come out, I had asked for a 30/50, he put in the square D, got paid, then I asked for the box and it said 40/60 on it, saw it on the box after he had left. Texted him and said HEY you put in a 40/60,( pressure tank is at 28 ), i had asked for a 30/50 - claimed he adjusted the 40/60 down to a 30/50, but he did NOT, and he refuses to come out and fix things, said he would refund my money and never did. So, NOW, I have to screw around w/ this crap, when I already paid to have the job done right ? I had turned on all the water, gone under there and checked, and the gauge read 60, switch clicked, then down to 40, switch clicked, he did not adjust things, so i have a worthless one year warranty on parts and labor. I'm steaming angry. Bad Ju ju on him. This is a single wide, don't need a 40/60, only one shower works here, all this has done is create pressure problems. Toilet won't stop running, didn't do that on the old 30/50. Had to vent, sorry. Thank you. I'm afraid to put air in my 36 gal. pressure tank to reach 38 psi. Any ideas ? I don't have that kind of tool he used for the screw. Ty !

    • @dantco
      @dantco 3 роки тому +8

@@AndreaWestlake306 as long as you turn off the power first, you can use a deepwell socket, go buy the nut driver he used, or even usr a wrench.
Back out the taller adj screw until your cut in (bottom) pressure is 30 psi and then check/set your cut out pressure (top) with the shorter adj screw to 50 psi. Always recheck your cut in pressure after you make adjustments...that pressure has to be 2 psi OVER the AIR charge in the tank ie 28 psi for a 30-50 setting.
You may not have to adjust for your cut out pressure at all, but check it to make sure it is 50.
Didn't mean to jump in here, but I read the question and nobody answered...

Thanks for the clear explanation. I only have a single spring. But by dialing the screw out I lowered the high-end cutoff and now my pump shuts off each time. Previously, it was running endlessly most of the time. Cutting the power off seemed to re-set it for a little while, then it would run endlessly again. Now it shuts off. One point to make is to mark the starting point when making adjustments and counting the turns. This way you know where to go back to if need be.

Very good video. Thanks. Please take this kindly-------most home wells have a diaphragm tank instead of a bladder tank. Bladders attach to the bottom of the tank and act like a balloon. They do not last as long as a diaphragm tank which has a sheet of rubber across the middle part of the tank. I only say this to keep someone from buying a wrong tank.

Hi! Thank you for this amazing video, but because I am total beginner in this field, I've got few questions. I remember, in my old house, I had much better well water system with top of the line control panel and everything else and pressure was always 60PSI, but in my actual house (small bungallow), I've got just basic system (pump and pressure tank) and I never had over 40PSI even if pressure switch states (I found it by following your instructions) that it should be 30-50PSI... And in the last week, it even dropped to just 30PSI... Water in my house is barely flowing... My question how do I troubleshot where is a problem? Do I have to ajust pressure switch? Is pressure switch defective? Is pressure tank a problem (broken blader)? Also, could I change a pump for better one with higher pressure 40-60PSI? I was thinking to change a pressure tank (20 gallons) for bigger (maybe 30-40 gallons), but how do I match it with a pump (I don't want to buy weak tank)? Thank you in advance for any advice!

Now it does cut out at 60 (switch is 40/60) but when it gets to 40 it cuts out and then drops to zero pressure. The pressure in the tank is set to 38 psi. What am I doing wrong? Could it be the switch is defective? This switch has the reset handle on it and I have to use that to restart the system.

Thank you Mark for this nice video. If I installed 30-50 switch, is is possible to lower the pressure and make it 25-45. Thanks.

Do you adjust the air pressure in the tank with the tank full of water or do you drain it down and then check it ?

Do you then have a pressure regulator set to 30 after this? Otherwise the pressure in the house is going to vary by 20psi all the time no?

I adjusted my pressure up to 40--60 from the standard 30--50.due to low pressure in house.question--will this be too much pressure for plpe connections throut the house and for the water bladder itself(no indicators on the panel)?

My brand new pump 40-60 switch. It keeps going off and on when at the 60lbs. I have not adjusted it. It’s brand new, but not the original. What is making it cut off and on so fast? This burned up my other motor.

Any reason the differential couldn't/shouldn't be set to 10pm I? Eg cut on at 45 and off at 55? I have an RO system and anything below 45 is not good.

Do you think having a 30 lb. differential would harm the bladder?

my switch is a 30/50 setting , everthing works fine , cuts in and out within 2 minutes , but when i regen my water softner it will not cut out at 50 . It will just teeder on 50 but it just cant get there, i have to turn the switch off and back on again to stop the motor, So would i have to turn the small screw out a bit so it can reach the cut out pressure?

So the small screws changes range by increasing or decreasing cut out and the big screws just move the whole range up or down, correct?

Great video. I drained my tank and checked the air pressure and it was way low. My switch is 20/40 for a 1 hp pump. Now when I turn the power back on nothing happens. I figured the pump should kick on now to fill the tank again. Any idea what is wrong? Maybe I need to adjust my switch?

Good explanation.so adjusting the taller nut moves the 20 psi up or down. 20-40/ 25-45/ 30-50 etc.. then the smaller nut only increases the cut out 40-45-50 .

Ok so I got a half horse deep well pump, set around 210ft. My pressure switch is a 40 60, Will a APEC pressure tank of 14gal be sufficient enough?

I was looking forward to the video of you replacing your deep well pump, but it didn't appear at the end of the video, nor can I find it on your page. Did you have to delete it for some reason?
