The standard was set in 1982 as to who was the best and not slipped since. SFSG was predominantly PARA Regt, Marines got hoofed off the range for being a shambles during the setup and now integrated with 1 PARA as their standards were not as high and needed bringing up to speed. Awesome. Its a good idea but a few bb guns in a hanger full of pallets is not a new concept. A few years ago we rented a mechanical surfboard and filled one of the hangers with sand for a beach party and BBQ. We did not claim to invent a new desert training concept.

Bullpups are shorter and better for CQB than an M4. Besides 1Para and the Pathfinder Platoon use the C8 variant (which is very compact) so I suspect although I don’t know that that will trickle down to 2 and 3 Para, 4 might be a bit of a stretch but they’re working alongside 2 and 3 then it’s possible they’ll get the same kit. My understanding is they’re trying to give the bootnecks and paras better kit but with that said our military is about as well funded Sunderland football club so there’s every chance they’ll just have to end up lobbing potato’s at the enemy

why isn't this any good for the real world!
1st target boards don't shoot back
    2nd the rooms are bare
3rd ppl get wounded/killed yet this style of training gives nothing.. ie you walk into a room look around & shoot a target, then onto the next room....
giving a training space to get basic room clearance, yes ok "as a basic stage" however it must then progress to a more realistic environment "& that's doesn't mean shooting blanks in a sound stage"
this is why the military & police are getting so poor, there training is all during a cost cutting exercise & the big wigs get a bonus pay packet for doing so & more ppl die.. training needs to be as realistic as it can get, ppl need to be pushed & put under stressful situations so they can learn

    • @tomstravels520

Did you not hear the bit where he said they can put enemy soldiers in the rooms to shoot back. I’d be stressed if I knew I could get hit with paintballs. Firing real ammo indoors has a lot of potential risks with it. Nobody should be dying in training just for the sake of realism. The whole point you’d do these exact drills in the real world. The difference is the ammo you’re using

1st live ammo gets used sparingly with the british military, other world forces use live ammo regularly not only for muscle memory but for the simply fact everyone needs to handle weapons safely "that includes within conflicts along with other added benefits..
anyway paint ball & laser targeting is one aspect which gives some elements of threat, however this being a single floor modular room layout, it also lacks realism ie not all doors are freely open, they can be damaged/locked/booby trapped you need to use forceful entry etc "the list goes on" then you have the lack of content within the rooms ie furniture innocent ppl hiding & so on
anyway the list of what's really required out do what these rooms can supply, they should keep & use the mock villages/streets & give them flexible internal details along with external features rather then a simple ill-effective cost cutting idea such as this & the other virtual reality simulator/video game...
if you really think this simulates a real situation your so wrong...
also noting the difference between this & a real element entering a building/rooms etc are alot more then simply ammunition

1st training villages/streets are located at training grounds of which troops go to stay for weeks (its not go & train & then return home on the same day/weekend etc)
also some military bases have such or similar on-site(depends which your talking about)
as for future improvements, its spoken about in the feature & yes it all comes down to budget cuts within the military, also not forgetting this site is located at a single location currently other sites would require such to be built "when they've already got better facilities which could be modified to suit for a better training arena..
as for my past, kid.. sorry that's for me, I can certainly state the budget cuts are killing training requirements for real world events.
