And he did not set a record because as you said, the Beatles (Lennon/McCartney) already had the record. Goodness gracious. I can't believe so many likes for this post. People will believe anything they read.
Richard, nice story, and The Bee Gees DID write 5 songs in the Top 10 all at once on February 25, 1978, when they had #1) "Stayin' Alive" Bee Gees #2) "(Love Is) Thicker Than Water" Andy Gibb #5) "Emotion" Samantha Sang #8) "Night Fever" Bee Gees #10) "How Deep Is Your Love" Bee Gees. It's not coming out for 3 or 4 weeks. We would never normally play this song because it's not our format. I'm playing it because it's going to be a HUGE record". Jay, I love that you love Bee Gees but kind of shake my head a little (with a smile) at how little you know about your favorite band/singer. You gotta keep in mind, this is a big world you're diving into. The Bee Gees put their first album out in 1965. Their 22nd and final album as a band was realeased in 2001. The Bee Gees wrote Tragedy and Too Much Heaven in the same afternoon. It reached #1 in the US and UK in 1979. The explosion sound was made by Barry into a microphone in the studio.(3 takes)
There's a live version of the Bee Gees performing their hit song "You Should Be Dancing" with their brother Andy. That would be a cool version of that song to react to.
I was 14yrs old and got to see the Tragedy Concert. It was totally unforgettable and Andy was with them. It was my favorite concert til I saw them here in Las Vegas for their One Night Only convert. I am very grateful to see them twice. And Barry did the thunder sound in a microphone lol❤

Tragedy was so great in the clubs, pumping out on great club speakers. Even the fellas that always stand along the walls of the clubs came out for this one.
Sir Barry Compton Gibb! lol! He was Knighted by Prince Charles so just call him Sir, lol! There is a video of the Bee Gees in studio working on this song, and figuring out how to make the explosion sound, worth watching.
😂😂 You guys are a riot! Jay, you are too much!😆 I'm with you on this one, Amber! But the truth is, the Bee Gees are special!! Go try some of their older songs, pre disco. Love you guys!!
I’m not sure how hard core BEE GEE fans feel about the song You Win Again, but there is something about it that I love…and highly recommend/request . It’s a bit more mellow, came out in the mid 80’s, didn’t do to well in the U.S., but there’s something that always kept it relevant in my mind and capitulated my heart.
Talking to fellow Bee Gees fans, You Win Again is consistently regarded as an underrated song. I slightly disagree as it was a Number 1 in the UK, but we're on the State/Canadian side of things so we didn't get it played over here. Definitely worth a reaction video, though.
I was born in 1964… And let me tell you your love of the Bee Gees is shared by millions and millions and millions of people… Little me included! @7:19.. that..”k’SHHH!!” sound is what I waited for every time I listened to this song!! This band covers so many spectrums of music genres… That’s why they are so awesome and iconic! Cheers from 🇨🇦🤓🎉🎉🎉🎉❤️
This was one of their hits that ended up labeling their music as “disco”. Incorrectly, I might ad. Thank you for playing it. This takes me back to my youth, and roller skating to disco music. They are still the greatest!
Actually their “Disco image” mainly came from their Saturday Night Fever hits. This song was released a couple of years later. I would agree that this song ‘Tragedy’ isn’t really “Disco”.
@@giovannib.9260 No, it isn’t. I absolutely agree with you. As I said, it was labeled “disco” incorrectly. At least where I come from in rural California. Do you have any idea how many people were “closet fans” of the Bee Gee’s because of the disco label? But, as far as the era it comes from, it does remind me of the roller rink on Saturday disco nights-in which the Bee Gee’s were frequently played. If you’re from that time you’ll understand what I was referring to. Thank you for your response.
It was disco to me and my peers. True you could not dance to it in the same way ... only a few could and do a good job. It was more complicated so the BeeGees grew with this ... but still disco to me.
You guys seem to forget, the Bee Gees have been putting out music since 1965. So a lot of music genres came and went and They adapted and weathered the storm. To Love Somebody, I Started A Joke, Lonely Days/Lonely Nights...ENJOY
Man, I still remember listening to this 45 back in the late 70's as a little kid. Nostalgic!!! "Night Fever" is my favorite disco hit of theirs, and it was their biggest hit. :) I'm glad you reacted to that one, and FINALLY, "Tragedy"!
Haha. I was in high school. Graduated in 1977-Oneonta High. School, Oneonta, New York-which dates me A LOT. I’m 62 years old. Married for FORTY YEARS to the same guy (hubby always tells me to point out that I’m married to my FIRST husband!) Two sons and one son-in-law-no grandkids-and we think we likely won’t have any grandchildren. Oh, well….
This is PURE Disco-era BeeGees, when they were at their peak of popularity. Total 70's. Some more must-listen 70's era BeeGees: You Should Be Dancing (Super disco bassline), Nights on Broadway, Stayin' Alive, and More Than A Woman. Some non-disco hits: I Started A Joke, I've Gotta Get A Message To You, Massachusetts, Alone, How Deep Is Your Love? The only singer I can think of who MAY be able to do a higher falsetto than Barry is Frankie Valli - check out his song with the Four Seasons "Sherry" (also you should ABSOLUTELY put the theme song for the movie "Grease" on your list - written by the BeeGees, sung solo by Frankie.) Tragedy and Nights On Broadway are EASILY my top 2 Bee Gees songs.
They were unfairly labled as "disco" back in the day and later shunned. Saw a documentary on them and what they said was they were huge motown fans and wanted to see if some white siblings from Australia could make an r'n'b record.
This was after the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack so 1979. Their music was influenced by the Delphonics, who was a falsetto band. It wasn’t until the song Nights on Broadway that Barry gave the falsetto a try. Found success with it and was encouraged to keep singing with it. Also, the making of this song in studio is great to watch!
" Tragedy... when the feelings gone and you can't go on, it's tragedy". GREAT Song! Not sure why Amber doesn't really like this one, unless it's just the beginning part before the intensity comes in. But that's really the key to making a good song, it's all about contrast.
Please try one of their best non-disco songs, the the moving, if oddly titled "New York Mining Disaster 1941." No exaggerated falsetto, just solid singing.
The disco era was about 3 years out of 50 or 60 years. They have distinct, very different eras musically. I fell in love with their 60s music (so romantic), then disco, then excellent music for others and themselves. You can’t put them in a box, except the box marked Unique Excellence.
Exactly while I like their disco and remember when they were releasing those songs. I really prefer other eras more unless I am in the mood to dance like when I was in high school which makes my body hurt for days. I have never heard anyone say this so there is a great possibility I am wrong but I do not believe I have ever heard a male singer sing in falsetto for a continuous time as Barry Gibb. Unless maybe it it would be Marcelito Pomoy (not the correct spelling)
As much as Jordan loves The Bee Gees disco sound, I can’t believe you haven’t reacted to “ Staying Alive “ yet. This is pure Bee Gees disco.. Jordan buddy, you need to listen to it!!!
Frankie Valli from the Four Seasons has a good falsetto voice. Sherry would be a good song to start with and it is from the original Four Seasons during the 60s.
My late partner looked just like a young Barry Gibb... Long luscious hair, perfect beard. I felt like I had hit the jackpot. He died at 54 after 20 years together, and he will be forever young, forever handsome. ❤
PLEASE react to “For whom the bell tolls” by The Bee Gees. I know you love Barry but you will love Robins voice as well. Very unique. There is so much more to The Bee Gees than just Barry’s falsetto, which is phenomenal for sure, but please give Robin and FWTBT a chance. You won’t regret it and Barry leads the song, but Robin comes in with killer vocals on the chorus. 🎤❤️👏
Love this song!! I don't think it gets enough love on UA-cam so thank you for reacting to it. I think another underappreciated Bee Gees song is called "Love You Inside and Out." I hope you will react to that one, too. 😁
Love the reaction! The Bee Gees are one of the greatest bands of all time! You should check out a song they released in the early 1990's called For Whom the Bell Tolls. It is such an underrated song because it was a later release
Drawing towards the end of the disco era. The Bee Gees were shunned after this as the disco sound was old hat. They still did a lot of writing for other people as you know.
Watch it live,. & See how the space is meant to be there. Watch making of tragedy, see how Barry invented the blow up sound on a mike.🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕
The BeeGees are so much more than just the short lived Disco. They began as kids in the 60's on TV music shows in Australia. You need to check their early work, like Spicks and Specks eg. The falsetto didn't even start until the 70's disco era. previous to that Barry didn't know he could do it..lol... They put out so much in the 80's and into the 90's.
Now you have to go watch the video called The Making Of Tragedy by The Bee GeeS. You’ll see that explosion sound is made by Barry at the microphone with his hands over it blowing into the mic! Magic!
Love the reactions guys. I find myself reminiscing and singing every word... because I'm 58 years old and know the Bee Gees so well. To see you guys appreciate past music makes me smile..So... mission accomplished Jordan and Amber 🎸🥁🎤😎💯
I was about 13 when my cousin Jimmy turned me on to them. He had as much as a 15 yrs old could. God rest his sole. He like to dance and loved their music. I'm 57 and love the Bee Gees
I’m going on 58 myself and anything by The Bee Gees is gold! It reminds me of my young years! I love hard rock and metal, but I am not a disco hater and listen to disco as well. Have you listened to “If I Cant Have You?”
Frankie can go in and out of falsetto where Barry cannot. Barry sounds like he struggles to get there where Frankie does not. Barry is good but Frankie is the best. Just sayin'.
Tragedy is a masterpiece. And the Bee Gees (not just Barry) are one of the most underrated bands of all time. At the same level of the best of the best. Eternal Bee Gees!
This is by far the best bee gees song. I’m gonna get a lot of disagreement with that but it’s fact If you haven’t reacted to “nights on broadway” that’s a banger too

I was 15 when this song came out. I still remember the first time I heard it. My reaction was the same as yours for the first few seconds. Then WHAM! They sucked me in! This is probably one of my favorite Bee Gees song!
This song is from their 1979 album Spirits Havin' Flown and that video is the album art. Too Much Heaven is also from that album, but you haven't heard the best #1 song from that album yet, Love You Inside Out.
If you really want to go for a different sound to the Bee Gees, you should give their 1987 UK Number 1 single 'You Win Again'. Captured a different feel to their Saturday Night Fever days, and showed a more mature sound to them.
You guy's FINALLY did MY FAVORITE BeeGees song! I love nearly EVERY song they do, but 'Tragedy' flat out ROCKS!! Check out 'The Making of Tragedy' on UA-cam!
Every time my kids complain about something ridiculous, I always bust out into “Tragedy”, in my best Barry voice! Now they love the song! It’s one of my faves.
The thunder sound you notice, Amber, is Barry making explosion sound with his hands formed like a megaphone close to the mike and then they amplified sound to add to recording where he wanted to accentuate the sound. It is shown on video while they are in recording studio. They are musical and production geniuses. Maurice is responsible for a lot of production composing for instrumental background in songs they wrote. He sings the sound to the brass to play on song You Should Be Dancing to name one but they all contribute to production sounds and are perfectionists in their execution of music. I loooove them soooo much. I'm with you Robb. The more you see them on utube interviews, the more you fall in love with each one. You have to react to song called Fanny. Beautiful and musically perfect. So happy to hear of someone in your generation discovering them. Better Midler first gained fame as zinger and recording artist. Did that waaay before movies. Her first sound was from 40's, WWII, music. Her sings were covered some by Pointer Sisters performing on TV shows. Movie called "For the Boys" is my favorite of her acting and singing performances. You should watch it. Funny and historical. IT IS SUPERB. Look it up and watch with your wife.
I’m glad that you are one of those that have been able to see the humble Beegee working in an almost perfect anonymous awesome Job , very few people know that Maurice ( Morris ) was the multi instrumentalist and multi talented genius behind nights on Broadway, Heartbreaker , Woman in love , etc , each one one of them shared their talent and came with that incredible and immense and huge explosion of incredible music , they wrote so much music for so many artists and always kept their low profile, they never acted like divos , I’ve lived in Miami for the last 35 years and I had the privilege of watching these guys at the Supermarket, or on any small shop in Miami Beach shopping without a body guard , they were nice with every body, they never acted like Superstars , they were these humble men , shopping like anybody else, that made them very special, these mega Stars and singers , were so humble and nice to everyone, nothing in comparison with those unbearable ones that act like owners of the world , thank you Beegees because you show your greatness on stage and also stopping to talk with everyone who approached you on the store or the sidewalk, you guys , The Beegees were real Menshe , real humble guys and that made you real Great men , thank you guys for being awesome on stage and every where you go , you were the Real Great Ones, Barry, Robin , Maurice ( Morris ) an Andy , you guys will never be forgotten .

I think they've already reacted to it
@@consciousbeing1188 If they have then it must've gotten blocked because I can't find it.
@@ronnix23 - I watch a few reaction channels so it's more likely I'm mistaking it.
Barry actually made that thunder sound by cupping his hands over the mic and experimenting until he got the desired effect per the documentary ✌🏾
I was 14yrs old and got to see the Tragedy Concert. It was totally unforgettable and Andy was with them. It was my favorite concert til I saw them here in Las Vegas for their One Night Only convert. I am very grateful to see them twice. And Barry did the thunder sound in a microphone lol❤
the what sound now? lol
@@silentassassin47 the explosion
@@KD-cd2ckyou must have been lucky to have a family to be able to afford to go,I couldn't imagine it being a cheap trip, worth it though if you can afford it. I'd go if I had a chance
@@russe19642 huh?
"Nights on Broadway" is a must if you haven't heard it yet.
If you wanna hear a falsetto,,,you need to hear the very high falsetto of Phillip Bailey of Earth Wind & Fire.
This Bee Gees song was a staple in the Disco clubs for getting people out on the dance floor
I don’t consider this a disco song though.
@@paulberthold932 Neither did The Bee Gees, even despite it being released during the Disco era
There's a live version of the Bee Gees performing their hit song "You Should Be Dancing" with their brother Andy. the video!!!!!
That is a GREAT song!
Don't think I've heard that one. I'll have to check it out👍
Another great song is "One". It too came out in the 80's.
Talking to fellow Bee Gees fans, You Win Again is consistently regarded as an underrated song. I slightly disagree as it was a Number 1 in the UK, but we're on the State/Canadian side of things so we didn't get it played over here. Definitely worth a reaction video, though.
I like the song as well.
Cheers from 🇨🇦🤓🎉🎉🎉🎉❤️
The Only Love Bee Gees You have to listen...Barry's voice is phenomenal
One of their many great ones. You should hear "Nights on Broadway".
Yes! The Midnight Special video. Maurice does the falsetto on that one.
Should listen to Poco singing crazy love a beautiful song from the 70s
Also "Heart of the Night" and "It's a Good Feeling (To Know)," both by Poco
This was one of their hits that ended up labeling their music as “disco”. Incorrectly, I might ad. Thank you for playing it. This takes me back to my youth, and roller skating to disco music. They are still the greatest!
Same here! I would roller skate to this with my little kid's badass face and yell out TRAGEDY!
Actually their “Disco image” mainly came from their Saturday Night Fever hits. This song was released a couple of years later. I would agree that this song ‘Tragedy’ isn’t really “Disco”.
This is not disco
My favorite song by them. He really screams high!
Oh, well….
@@drieuxkoeppel8152 I'm 50, never been married, so I'll never have kids. :) Class of 1990!
The only singer I can think of who MAY be able to do a higher falsetto than Barry is Frankie Valli - check out his song with the Four Seasons "Sherry" (also you should ABSOLUTELY put the theme song for the movie "Grease" on your list - written by the BeeGees, sung solo by Frankie.)
Tragedy and Nights On Broadway are EASILY my top 2 Bee Gees songs.
I love "Sherry". The song used to give me goosebumps when I'd hear it on the oldies radio station as a kid.
@@merlball8520 Also "Walk Like A Man", he gets some great falsetto in that one as well.
The Bee Gees were never a disco band. They made songs you could move to but were never disco.
Love You Inside and Out and Spirits Having Flown are masterpieces from The Bee Gees! Also Shine Shine--Barry Gibb goes solo!
There is actually a song in the late
60s called Please Read Me where they did the high harmonies .
" Tragedy... when the feelings gone and you can't go on, it's tragedy".
GREAT Song!
Not sure why Amber doesn't really like this one, unless it's just the beginning part before the intensity comes in. But that's really the key to making a good song, it's all about contrast.
@ 10:04 Yeah - I saw that too. :) Oh well, body language doesn't lie. There's other BeeGee's songs that I like better than this one too.
@@JustMe-vk4fn Yup, behavior and body language say a lot.
She said she had a recent rib injury and can't move.
Ha.......great minds think alike.
Yes! I love their early stuff too; especially "I Started a Joke"!
I agree completely!
@@carlaharrington5120 - "Lonely Days".
It's Amber looking at her sweetie loving his BeeGees 🥰🤗💝💖
As much as Jordan loves The Bee Gees disco sound, I can’t believe you haven’t reacted to “ Staying Alive “ yet. This is pure Bee Gees disco.. Jordan buddy, you need to listen to it!!!
Yes!!! Staying Alive was one of their biggest hits 😍
Yes please do listen to staying alive
Frankie Valli from the Four Seasons has a good falsetto voice. Sherry would be a good song to start with and it is from the original Four Seasons during the 60s.
Absolutely!!!!!!!! Frankie can give Barry a run for his money!!!!!
Or how about Russel Thompkins, Jr. from The Stylistics. Incredible falsetto!
@@donnagonatas3155Frankie can go in and out of falsetto with ease. Barry does not.
The miracle of the Bee Gees ! ❤❤
On that same album is love you inside and out you must react to it!!!
So, so fun watching this!
Fantastic song
Yes! If outdoor version, take note of surroundings...
Love this song!! I don't think it gets enough love on UA-cam so thank you for reacting to it. I think another underappreciated Bee Gees song is called "Love You Inside and Out." I hope you will react to that one, too. 😁
100 percent agree with this recommendation.
Yep. My favorite Bee Gees song. Maybe my favorite song.
Love the reaction! The Bee Gees are one of the greatest bands of all time! You should check out a song they released in the early 1990's called For Whom the Bell Tolls. It is such an underrated song because it was a later release
Yes, please! I promise that both of you won't be disappointed with this amazing song for one of your Bee Gees reactions.
Love You Inside And Out is another 🔥 song.
Barry and Phillip Bailey from Earth Wind and Fire. Best falsettos that ever existed.
Vince Gill
You forgot the stylistics.
I'm still waiting for you to do the Bee Gee's Staying Alive with John Travolta. It's classic. Who don't love Travolta. He was the definition of cool.
Play soldier blue
Drawing towards the end of the disco era. The Bee Gees were shunned after this as the disco sound was old hat. They still did a lot of writing for other people as you know.
"Nights On Broadway" is definitely one you have to react to.
Watch it live,. & See how the space is meant to be there. Watch making of tragedy, see how Barry invented the blow up sound on a mike.🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕
That is why they managed to write and sing for themselves and others for over 50 years without getting stale.
Thanks for getting back to the Bee Gees!Check out their early days in 1967 "To Love Somebody." They were so naturally gifted & so young.
Magic!
One of my favaorite Bee Gees song is Spirits having Flown!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This album is the very first album i ever bought!!!!
No end to the comments. You two are so cute. 74 year old lady.
Love the reactions guys.
I find myself reminiscing and singing every word... because I'm 58 years old and know the Bee Gees so well.
To see you guys appreciate past music makes me smile..So... mission accomplished Jordan and Amber 🎸🥁🎤😎💯
Same for me at 55! Love the reactions and they found out why the Bee Gees were so popular for many years!
One of my absolute favorite Bee Gee's songs!
You guys absolutely need to listen to more franki valli and the four seasons. Definitely a great falsetto like Barry
WORD!!!!!
Who said they were underrated?
Plese define "underrated". How can they be underrated when they earnet half a billion bucks?
They definitely were not underrated.
❤SIMPLY PUT,.I ❤️ LOVE THE BEE GEES
This is by far the best bee gees song. I’m gonna get a lot of disagreement with that but it’s fact
If you haven’t reacted to “nights on broadway” that’s a banger too
My personal favorites by The Bee Gees are Lonely Days from the early era and Nights On Broadway from the SNF era. Would love to see reactions to them!

I was 15 when this song came out. I still remember the first time I heard it. My reaction was the same as yours for the first few seconds. Then WHAM! They sucked me in! This is probably one of my favorite Bee Gees song!
One of my very favorite Bee Gees songs is "Surrender". I enjoy your reactions!!!!
I have suggested this many times. It's their later music I am obsessed with.
Lol. Love it.
