REFERENCES:
We cover the basics in biology concepts at the secondary level. If you are looking to discover more about biology and go into depth beyond these basics, our recommended reference is the FREE, peer reviewed, open source OpenStax biology textbook: openstax.org/details/books/bi...
Further Reading
As our pinned comment mentions, we cover basics with the goal of inspiring curiosity for more! There are so many important details to explore. For example, the conversion of lactose to allolactose, the cAMP-CAP conversion that stimulates the RNA polymerase, or the names of the different genes and their individual functions. We also don't mention that there are other factors that can affect the activation of this operon (such as glucose levels). UPDATE: 1. Isn't it fascinating that, as mentioned, ALL of your DNA is found in your body cells, but genes can be turned "on" or "off?" We just want to to note: there are a few body cells that do not have *any* DNA though. Mature red blood cells or cornified epidermal cells for example. Always some fascinating exceptions in biology. 2. If you're studying the lac operon, we want to remind you that our video looks at basic concepts with the goal of inspiring to explore more. For example, we don't talk about the conversion of lactose to allolactose, the cAMP-CAP conversion that stimulates the RNA polymerase, or the names of the different genes and their individual functions. We also don't mention that there are other factors that can affect the activation of this operon (such as glucose levels). Check out the further reading details to explore more! your videos are so helpful that I am 7th grade, and I always watch this before my test and I would get an A on my test! Thank you so much for uploading such helpful videos! You saved my grade...
thank you ,it's really helpful and fun too ..❤❤❤
Please do a tryptophan operon soon 🙏🙏🙏
Great that you pinned this message! As this is not sufficient for biochemistry at the university I was going to comment on what you mentioned here. But otherwise, great video! It's great as an introduction to the topic.
There is definitely demand for more in-depth topics for more advanced students, please make a separate playlist for advanced topics since you are so gifted with the ability to explain complex topics with simplicity 🙏
I learned more from this than my actual college lecture.
These videos are super helpful and very engaging!
An Asian Gamer hard when they are super boring and confusing, also a huge information dump with droning monotone teacher
same here😂

Yes! Lol
This is so far the best channel for molecular biology. Now I just think of my whole body made up of cute things like this moving around and doing their job.
If u think like that u need to grow up

can I just say that I'm 26 and your little characters made me laugh out loud. I had to re watch 3 times because I was reading what the little guys were saying. "I want to make the things!" 😂
You mean made you LOL xD
Lol I had to watch it twice cause of that!
Lol... I had to rewind several times coz I kept being distracted to read what they're saying instead of paying attention to the real material 😂😆😆
Hhhhhh me too !!!
it's really funny 😂😂
Lol
These are the best videos to help understand really complicated concepts. I am a college student and these videos are a still a huge help, especially since it takes hard to understand concepts and breaks them down without sacrificing the small important details.
+Aubry Thank you so much! :D
Aubry haha! I'm in seventh grade and this is still helping. You are amazing!!
Amoeba Sisters can you guys make a video on muscle contraction, amino acids, insulin?
100% agreed :)
same lol. im in 2nd year of uni taking advanced biochemistry but here i am hahah
There's a certain point in bio lectures where you know the definitions but just want a nice visual and put all of it together. This is the video to watch, thank you.
“NOOOOO! I should have let you block the thing!” - I lol’ed so hard at this
Hahahaha right me too 😂
Couldn't understand my 2-hour lecture on microbiology and you guys explained it so easy in 7 minutes! thank you so much!!
Tell me about it, they’re amazing
Oh my gosh, these videos are so cute!! THIS makes science even more entertaining. :3
Holy FRICK. I'm just looking for review and I find this gem. I bet you dont even remember writing this haha
another comment gem
LOVE THIS CHANNEL lol
I don't think I'd pass very many science courses without youtube :o

GOOD CATCH THERE M8.
my bio teacher sends me to really boring videos to study and I just come to these videos b/c it helps it make sense and they're so cute
These videos are great :)
The drawing made it so much more easier to understand! Guess I'm more of a visual learner
This video is cute and interactive but informative at the same time, definitely helped to keep me involved. Please make more!!
Top-quality content right here, even 6 years later
Through your animations, I've gained more clarity in so many topics... the way you've portrayed things is printed in my brain. Thank you for making such tricky topics so simple and understandable.
for sure this is soooo helpful
Nice to see I'm not the only one watching these videos during the summer. And thanks to this channel, I'll be dominating every Science course for the next 3 years!
84updown We love to hear this---we wish you great success! :D
Eiahfou
How did you science courses go over the past 5 years?
"Why do we even need to learn this strand if we're never going to use it!" This has to be the greatest biology/teacher joke of all time. Also, "You are here. You must be here to synthesize HCL" is a hilarious, immediately familiar way to describe the concept. As a 26 year old "adult" college student, I mostly watch these for super dorky biology humor that motivates me to get back into the dry stuff. Thank you!!
I watched one hour lecture and I didn't understand many concepts but this 6 min video clears every doubt... Thanks for the video
I was having a hard time understanding the lac operon from either my cell bio or genetics classes. You simplified it so well that I can understand the material with confidence! Thank you Amoeba Sisters!!!
Thank God, thank UA-cam. We would have been nothing without you.
I've read this (lac operon) in my textbook at least 5 times and never understood it until just now in a short 6 minute video. Thank you so much for existing.
You're awesome. I'm in a molecular genetics class now (as an engineering student, so very little biology background) and this honestly cleared up quite a few things for me!
Any NCERT guys watching this???
Yes
I just graduated college and am preparing for my MCAT and this explained operons better than anything I have studied in the past 4 years. You're a godsend.
These videos are amazing! I enjoy the animations and the outstanding instruction for sure, but I especially appreciate you guys encouraging careers in science. Keep up the teaching, Amoeba Sisters, and I'll keep up the learning!
wow you guys are awesome I'm studying for my masters in diagnostics and watching your videos have really given me a very good understanding of the topics.Thank you amoeba sisters ,long life, health and more video!!!lol.
That last minute study before the exam hustle. Thank you
I have been using these videos for my special education students and they love the colors and little characters. Thank you for being so creative introducing a tough concepts to students who don't always understand. I alos like how there is a worksheet to go with the videos. They work!!
I am 20 Years old And this is The First Video i've watched from this Channel And i have to say it was absolutely lovely! I genuinely laughed about the lactose regretting thing!
And it's even very good to learn with!
Keep the good work up!
you are litlerally the sweetest things on earth and honestly your way of explaining is far easier to understand than the way we learn about this in class. that being said, i am completly lost
loved every part of this! It was so hard for me to get what was going on and how the lac operon works, the drawings help as you explain whats going on. I like that each key character had their own personality to help remember what does what. Thank you! Studying for physiology final for this week. :D You guys rock!
literally i paused my professor's lecture and just come to this channel for whatever topic we are on! so so grateful for this channel bc sis would be lost
You make things so much easier to understand! You are definitely a great teacher and a great person because you upload these videos for free just to help other people. Amazing. Thank you very much. Keep on sharing the knowledge you have. Best wishes xx
I never comment on videos but this was a lifesaver. In six minutes I have learned what an hour long lecture confused me on. This channel can make anything learnable.
This was the most funny and easiest way to learn about lac operons. I tried to watch my professors video about it, but nothing was making sense and it was hard to focus. But this? This was absolutely chefs kiss. Thank you Amoeba Sisters, you now have a new fan and subscriber. I knew science could be fun and easy to learn.
Thank you for making these types of videos!!!!! Your video makes gene regulation sooo much easier to understand...I am also a college student who needed help understanding this material for my biology final, and now because of this video I understand! Keep on making these videos, great job!!!:)
I love this so much! This is such a great and fun way to learn. The cartoons are funny, but at the same time they explain the functions of each part of the process and make it so easy to remember! Thank you!
Wow, keep doing what you do. Every other youtube video I searched on this was so difficult to understand because it was so technical. This animation, though, was extremely helpful and made it so simple to understand. THANK YOU!
Thanks so much! The level of detail is perfect tbh. Most of the channels I find go into very shallow depth about different topics. This was just enough depth, talking about the way the repressor actually works and can get configured when a lactose molecule binds to it, without simply glossing over it !
Wow! Thanks a lot! I really needed that! I wish they would make an updated version of this though. I LOVE AMOEBA SISTERS! A Fan of their Creative, Educational and Fun Work.
I subscribed to you guys when I was in high school and you were a huge help. Now I’m in college and you’re still a huge help!!!! Thank youuu😭😭😭❤️
These videos are seriously the best. I watch these before I read my biology chapters and it makes the reading a breeze! Thank you so much
I am a senior in college and have watched many and many biology videos. your videos are exceptional and definitely the best. thank you so much
This is the best video I have ever seen. Period. Thankyou so much for introducing me to the basics of gene regulation, was just about to start the topic when I found your amazing video. Keep up the amazing work!
Thanks so much! :D

THIS CHANNEL REALLY IS SAVING MY LIFE IN COLLEGE RN THANK YOU!
I love your videos ! They always help me understand stuff like this better in biology! Plus, you make it interesting and funny to watch. :P Can you do a video on trp operon and the 4 controls of gene control in eukaryotes? Thank you :)
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! It’s the night before a big biology test and I just couldn’t wrap my head around the lac operon process. This video helped me so much!!!
Do not skip the add guys! Amoeba sisters is awesome!❤️
Thank you
Thank you very much! I used this to help me study for a science test. I enjoy your type of humor and the animation is also helpful.
I can't believe how easy to learn, detailed and fun this was! Thank you!
5:26 “NOOOO! I should have let you block the thing!” I’m wheezing😂😂😂😂😂😂
Can’t thank you enough for helping me understand all the material. Very easy and fun explanations. Love it.
bless up this video. this video, in less than ten minutes, taught me what my teacher could not teach the class in an hour and a half. THANK YOU
I’m in microbiology 120 and these videos have helped me get an A on all my exams! Thanks a bunch 💞
I've been struggling with this concept for a couple days. I've got a big test coming up soon. Thank you so much for helping me!
God bless this channel for saving my hide before every final exam I've given so far.
I was struggling to understand the lac operation from my textbook and this 6 min video was so easy to follow. Thank you!
This video explained a very confusing concept in a simple way . I really appreciate the efforts that were put in to carefully build up the concept .
this is probably the best explanation of gene regulation ive come across so far! Ive got exams tomorrow and found this really really awesome!
I'm a dental student and want to tell you that Your videos are amazing! I'm amazed at how you are able to make complex and difficult concepts so straight-forward. Thank you you for repeating the definition of terms during your videos. It really helps when you're learning the material.
Promoter: "You are so talented! You can do anything if you bind here!" Lost it 😂
Love your content. I'm in a master's program with heavy bio without previous experience, these videos are really getting me through! And the added humor is so uplifting. Thank you!
its so amazing..... the way you breakdown each concept and tell it as a bed time story....it was very helpful...keep making videos like this...lots of love
I found your videos when I was searching for an video about genetics, and it's easy to understand, thank you for creating awesome videos!😊
I FINALLY UNDERSTAND THE BASICS OF THIS MODEL ...well...now i have to learn the details but I finally understand it at all 😭😭✌ thank youuu~
(kinda funny that I understand an english video but i don't understand this model by videos in german/my native languages)
I am currently a junior in college getting my degree in Biomedical Sciences, planning on going to medical school. If I graduate from medical school I am going to have to thank you in my speech because your channel has helped me so much in my degree. I honestly feel so dumb in my classes and feel like I struggle comprehending that material compared to my classmates, but your channel has really helped encourage me to keep going and keep pursuing my love for science and medicine.
I'm in 8th grade and this video is really helping me a lot! All the analogies keep the imformation stuck in my brain. Thank you so much Amoeba Sisters!
“My eyes are burning like a thousand suns” 😂
Have I watched this video 4 times to understand? Yes. Am I learning more from the Amoeba Sisters than from my Psychobiology class? Also, yes.
You are life saviors!!!
This is what reminds me that learning is supposed to be fun and interesting, thank you so much!!!
Im taking my DAT in a month and honestly these videos have helped me SO MUCH.
I really dont know how many videos and how oft I have watched your videos! I will start teaching and Im planning to exhibit it or recommend it (and of course to check on the next class if the kids really have watched - doing a seriuos "supressor protein face")... because the didatics is so perfect! well done Amy Sisters!!!
YOOOOOOO, Ameoba Sisters out here getting me an "A" in Microbiology! Keep On Keepin On!
man as a microbiology student and the bad education system That I have in my country this channel has helped me so much and was an important key to joining the microbiology department in the first place thank you so much
OH MY GOD YAAASSS YOU GUYS ARE LIFE SAVERS. I absolutely loved this, so simply but covers the important stuff. A+!
Hello, Amoeba Sisters. I just want to thank you for this great educational content. I am a graduated theoretical physics student from Germany and I was told to perform a so called genetic toggle switch experiment in the lab. Since my biology wisdom was very poor I could perform the experiment and take conclusions about the physical quantities in the experiment BUT I was not able to understand *why* this phenomena was happening! (I had 2 populations of E.Coli which are red light or green light fluorescent). Thanks to your videos I started to find out about the "different players" acting in the bacteria!!! This was the first video I watched and now its also the last because after watching it for the first time I started to get so interested in all this topics that I ended watching them all. Thank you very much! In Germany we have a saying which fits wonderfully to my situation that says "You saved my butt."... because next week I have an oral exam with a biology professor at my university and he might ask me about this... also now I am so curious about all this stuff that I cant understand why nobody told me about all this before!!! Who hided all this information from me!?!?! hahahaha THANKS
after my biology lecture, i go to my room and watch this to reteach myself what we discussed in class lol i learn so much mire from you guys
That's my first time watching a video of this channel and I loved the entertaining way it helpes me lot , thank you
Thx for every single video. This is 6 years old and is still amazing. Please continue to make such awesome videos 😊
Thank you Amoeba Sisters!!! You're really saving my life in high school and making me love biology 🥰
I am so grateful for your videos! I am in university studying Cell and Molecular Biology, and it has been hard for me to understand all of this information with all of the big words and specific details. Your videos helo me understand the big picture and make it easier to piece together the smaller details. Thank you SO much!
Hello , I’m studying CMB too , did u graduate?
Yep! I’m working on my PhD in Neuroscience now :)
