Alex, I want to thank you for everything that you are teaching us. It has been a wonderful thing to stumble upon your channel and I have learned alot in recent months.
After watching your videos for a few months I have successfully replaced an M.2 slot for a WiFi card in a laptop with a slot from a donor board using everything that I have seen you do.
The slot is made of plastic and it has a row of through hole pins and one of surface mount pins. I first applied leaded solder to the pins, along with Amtech 559 flux (from eBay in the UK but seems to be the good one), then I applied heat from the back of the board and the slot came out without any damage to the pads or the slot. I did this twice, once for the damaged slot and once for the good slot from the donor board. After this I cleaned the board with IPA, added fresh flux and used solder wick to clean the holes and pads and they came out perfect. I've then put the good slot in, added fresh flux and using leaded solder I soldered every pin without any bridges. After cleaning the board with IPA again, it came out better than factory with nice shiny joints and it works perfectly. So thank you again for sharing your knowledge and experience freely with us!
PS. I did all of this withought a microscope, I was using a magnifying glass from time to time.

Your flux does a really clean job on the board. Others who use cheap flux have motherboadrs that are very ugly after repair. Nice.

microscope light is vertical with 90 degree angle. just use an external light with some angle(not vertical). change the angle of the light until you satisfied with the result. I think this is what he is doing.
to remove glare i find turning down the ring light works, having another light also on the work space for lighting. great vids. i do lots of these repairs too :-)
Did you check pin number 4 after the job was done to confirm the no number reading?

This is one of the biggest mistery for me still, how to get rid of the reflection. I have them even with spot lights. So I ordered polarizer with integrated ring light on aliexpress. Please make a special video how to use microscope that you are selling and how to improve picture quality by playing with light🙏

How do you properly maintain your soldering tips? I for the life of me can't make mine last very long, I clean them frequently, reapply fresh solder, yet they always become oxidized after a 2-3 times of turning it on.
Do you store them with solder on the tip even when cool?

Did you charge the customer for tristar chip or not?
Hello Alex! Why do you (and other technicians) always touch the chip after is has clearly seated in place? Are you trying to detect solder bridges or something like that? Thanks! :)
I'm not Alex, but it is because looks can be deceiving. Just because it looks like it is in place doesn't mean it is in place. Reflowing and slightly touching the chip verifies that each solder ball is in connection with its own pad on the array. The melted solder balls under the chip has its own tension or pull towards its own pad (when melted), so when he touches the chip, the melted solder balls pull to their designated pads on the board seating the chip perfectly.
This may be nothing, could be the camera moving around or something(hard to tell), but at about @10:17, the chip labeled XW CD in the frame to the right of the tristar chip appears to be knocked *veeeeery* slightly askew, maybe by a half a degree counterclockwise. Not sure if this would unseat the chip or cause any problems at all, it was just something I happened to notice. 🤷♂
Looking at it again, I'm relatively certain it's the chip itself moving and not the camera or a shadow and it's the only thing on the board that appears to move in this shot.

What is 'low melt solder'? is that just normal leaded resin core solder?
Low melt solder, also sometimes called "Chip Quick" is a type of solder that melts at around 138°C.

I have a new I pad here it's my friends dads he broke the touchscreen and attempted to replace it. Now the I pad turns on but no picture we have backlight but just a black image. Anybody know what this could be filter etc ? Thanks in advance for any replies

I have a similar condition after update, first it showed different charge after every lock , then it started restarting every 2.45 seconds , then after I forced the ipad to go down to 1 percent , the ipad won’t charge and would only boot with power.
I have a type c charger and can’t plug into my windows pc for a iTunes repair or update.
I am not in a situation to buy a usb to lightning wire and I need the data in the ipad 🤦🏻♂️

Battery connector srew loose
Nothing was wrong with the tri-star chip to begin with as long as all the battery pins not making a good connection it's going to randomly restarts or not charge pass certain %
No user-serviceable parts inside. I've been doing electronics for 50 years and dread touching those things, what makes a do-it-yourselfer think he can do it?
