    Hello AMANDA and SUNSHINE 😍😎
    I so love your gardens 🏡 !!
I am growing turnip tops, they were sprouting in fridge. Didn't leave much turnip on it, just an experiment. Well the tops grew flowers in no time, so I know I will have viable seeds soon. In time to grow some this season even.
I also planted the root portions of leeks and green onions, doing beautifully out there. I planted the root portions of onions, they need to be covered in mulch or a growing medium, as not to dry out.
I do all of these in shade or semi shade, because the sun can dry them out in no time.
My carrot tops are out there too, and the squirrels and chipmunks love to turn them upside down, so I sprinkle some pepper over them, then they stay away. Cayenne pepper can be used as well, from a salt shaker. Won't hurt the plants.
Happy gardening to all, everyone and everywhere.

Great ideas! Too many posts to see if this is mentioned, but those of us who have short growing seasons HAVE to sprout sweet potatoes indoors: put the potato in a jar of water until it grows sprouts, then pop off the sprouts & put them in a jar of water until they grow roots. Our stores only have a few starts out so far because it's still freezing at night!

Great video Amanda. You are a good teacher. I did some research and found some vegetables and herbs that I can grow on our little porch, even though it gets very little sun. Lettuce is one of the things on the list. So as soon as I can get someone to get me some pots, I am going to give it a try. Carrots are on the list to. I am so excited. I am a Diabetic and have Stage 3 Chronic Kidney Disease. So I have been staying home. Thank God I live with my Son and Daughter in law. They get everything I need. They both work at a Grocery Store. May you and Little Miss Sunshine stay safe and well. God Bless You Both.

GARLIC CLOVES, plant a thump deep and a handspan apart
Best time is spring and late in fall. Roots development occurs over the winter months just fine, and then it grows more throughout the summer season.
Garlic scapes are a vegetable of their own, and need to be removed, to encourage root portion development.
Best way to propagate garlic is by planting individual cloves. From seed it takes 3 years to develop a head of garlic.

There are many videos about regrowing food plants, and I watch them, just to learn even more. I read the comments too, and add to them.

You can also grow horse radish from root portions, all it takes is a piece, however know that once planted this wonderful useful plant, does not go away, any roots left in the ground will grow more.
The leaves are all edible too. This plant is a wonderful useful gift, and has medicinal properties.
Look up a video regarding MAKING YOUR OWN ANTIBIOTICS WITH PLANTS, at home. Horseradish is one of the ingredients.

You could also leave a few carrots to go to seed and end up with hundreds of seeds.

Good morning to you and sunshine. Loved your video. (-: as kids, we cut potatoes that had eyes turning green, cut the potatoes in half, coated the cut sides with lime to protect against bugs. We planted at least a ten lb bag and we grew lots of potatoes. Ive done celery like you was talking about and other plants. Great idea fore tough times. I think everyone should plant food now. Theres no telling whats going to happen in the coming months. God bless you and your family (-:

Sweet potatoes do work better for me in a jar. I couldn't get good sweet potatoes but I got wonderful slips by suspending the sweet potato half in water and half out. They went into soil and grew great but I didn't get good sweet potatoes. I gave some to a friend and she got good sweet potatoes.

Hi! I was just looking up raised beds and planters this morning trying to decide what to buy, when I happened to stumble on your video. Thank you so much! Will be purchasing. Had no idea that I could utilize the stalks/scraps in this way to grow new plants. This has been a tremendous help.

Loved this video ! I just purchased heirloom seeds from HOSS TOOLS and looking forward to starting them indoors . I have never grown carrots but bought some seeds to try . Not going into stores but if I can get some carrot tops I will try growing them . I have grown onions that way . Now how do you grow roman lettuce from a head . I have one in the fridge now and will look at it and see what I can do . My son just drove up with a truck load ( a yard ) of good soil and he is building for us a couple of raised beds for growing tomatoes . He told me he is making them high so I don't have to bend as I have many issues that cause pain and bad back and knee's and hips . I am so excited . Live in WA. state , shorter growing in the Kitsap but will plant all I can . Enlarging my garden and planing it all in Kentucky pole beans and Contender bush beans . Blessings to you and little Sunshine . We sure miss seeing her but understand .
    Linda

Raised beds are great for growing root crops. Carrots love tomatos, yes they grow very well together. Add in green onions, from the root portions of them, and likewise leeks. A lot of pests don't like the smell of onions. A marigold here or there for color, and attracting bees. Marigolds also are not liked by pests, and the flowers are actually edible.

I've been wondering about the carrots regrowing. Everything I've read says this is not possible so it would be nice to see a video this summer as you are reaping your success.

    • @heidimisfeldt5685

You can find a number of videos regarding regrowing vegetables, including carrots. A really great video is something like
HOW TO REGROW VEGETABLES TO OBTAIN VIABLE SEEDS.
      You will find it easily.

    • @heidimisfeldt5685
      @heidimisfeldt5685 4 роки тому

What carrot tops do not do, is to grow another carrot. They will grow little roots, more edible greens, flowers and in time viable seeds. Those if left to mature, will be great to grow more carrots. Carrots are biannuals, meaning they flower the second year of their existence.
By then the carrot itself is fibrous and hard. I guess you can still place a second year carrot into soup, but it will quite chewy.
