  • The 2024 Acura Integra Type S is finally almost here. With the first Acura Integra reveal last year the response was somewhat lackluster - but with the promise of the Integra Type S car enthusiast held their breath. Thankfully they took the Integra and made it a lot more sporty, and threw in the Civic Type R engine to really give it the power it needed. However there is one large looming problem with the Acura Integra Type S - so let's talk about it.

Exactly. The MSRP of a Kia Stinger GT2 comes with around 50 more HP and RWD. Half a second or more quicker to 60, and at that trim level comes much better equipped. Unfortunately, it's automatic, so that may put some off. A new Mustang GT manual is faster and around 40-45k, but only 2 door.
I think cars like this are targeted at people who NEED a manual and want 4 doors, because I can't seem to find very many performance cars in the same range that have both those features. Plenty of better 2 door manuals, and plenty of better 4 door autos.

The L15CA has proven to be a super underwhelming engine especially with mods. Can’t even tune the Si without a clutch and flywheel swap bc it’s got the same weak clutch from last gen (250hp max). If you’re looking for a grocery hauler, the Si is peppy and did had great driving dynamics. But if you plan to tune it up, the Type R or Type S are what you need. Am I happy it’s $52k? When I read the title of this vid, price was the only thing that came to mind. I was never under the illusion that the Integra was going to be a 2 door coupe, (that ship sailed when the 11th gen Civic released as 4 door sedan or hatchback only) and I like the way it looks and performance is as expected for the HP/TQ numbers. To me it's simply a way to get all the things that should have at least been optional on the Si. I mean the Si and Integra are both sold in Canada, yet they can get all the missing things on their Si without hurting Integra sales? But all that aside, getting the Integra we all want (type S) is far too expensive...and I'm right there with you because my mind also goes directly to "what else could I get for this price?" once a car crosses the $40k threshold...and I'm not sure anything based on the Civic would make the cut, even with the Acura badge. I have a similar issue with the GR Corolla, but at least that car doesn't truly share much with it's namesake normal hatchback..and it's mostly hand built in the same factory that did the LFA. That helps the psyche barrier a bit, but the Integra truly is a Civic Si/Type R with different front and rear styling and a few extra luxe features you can't get in the equivalent Honda...that's truly it. I'm pretty sure they even share an assembly line until it reaches a certain stage, but I could be wrong. Add borderline criminal dealership "market adjustments" and I'm adjusted right out of the market for a car I otherwise like a lot. Guess there are enough people out there willing to pay insane prices or Honda wouldn't do it...but I think that ends soon with our wonderful "progressive" government totally trashing our economy beyond any quick fixes.🙄

Also the price was amazing, better than any luxury competitor. I paid MSRP for my integra, no markup. These cars also have some of the best residual values which make them an excellent buy. I am a car enthusiast. I put way too much money into the car I have now (F56 MINI) in modifications plus I have a 2 year old daughter now. I need a 4 door car that’s moderately fast and fun to drive and preferably a manual. This car checks all the boxes as far as I’m concerned. I wanted a 3.0 Supra but this is more practical and less expensive. People can knit pick over small things like it not having a sunroof but I happen to not like sunroofs, so that doesn’t bother me. Also, even though it’s MSRP is more than what most people were thinking it would be, it gives dealers less room for markup. I happen to live near a dealer that does not markup at all. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder but most people would say this car is gorgeous. It will definitely be a head turner. I’m on the list for one when they come out and I cannot wait to get my hands on one! People act like FWD is awful but how many of you actually utilize the advantages that RWD or AWD have while in your 330i on your daily work commute? I will try as hard as I can not to modify this car when I get it… but if I did, the possibilities are endless. Idk why someone would get a 3 cyl GR Corolla over this other than the fact that the Corolla is cheaper. I think this competes very closely with the Alfa Romeo Giulia, which I was interested in. (I bought my wife a Stelvio) But I don’t hear people saying the Giulia is overpriced. The Integra Type S is winning me over because it has a manual. I think the price gap between this car and the Civic Type R is just right. If this was 48K it would only be a few thousand dollars more than a fully optioned Type R. But with all that said, I am not trying to convince anyone that this car is worth it or for them. I think I’m number 8 on the list for one of these at my local dealer, but I won’t complain if I move up the list!

Personally, I'm interested in the ITS, however i think you present a valid point. $50K is a lot to shell out for a compact luxury sporty car. I hope Acura really markets this as more than just a "luxury Civic Type R" and really differentiates it properly. Otherwise, I'll probably wind up with Supra, IS500, used M2 or just go cheaper and buy a 2024 Elantra N now that they've fixed that disgusting face the original one had and tune it.

Honestly it's not even a luxury car. The interior is basically Civic. I really hope people test drive other cars in that price range and see the difference.

FL5 Owner, just got one of the reservations for the Tiger Eye Type S,
I'm actually really excited- I wish the Integra had the manual seats of the Type R,
but basically you're paying for the looks, which MAN does that look like a beautiful car.
There are some cars for sure in the 50k price range, but I still think the Integra competes well here.
Basically you're buying a bullet proof engine, with track ready capabilities. Not just straight line performance
The Acura also sounds way better then the FL5 from factory it seems. Which is really the only department the FL5 lacks.
Drive a FL5 Type R on a bendy road, then it'll all make sense.

100%. At that price range especially the markup at release, just so many more options. M240i, M2, M340i, A91 Supra, the new Z... The list goes on. Now if I were still in my teens or 20's and really wanted it, then maybe. But again, not a lot of people in that age bracket don't have 60k to toss around. We were driving DC2 and DC5 Integras when I was in high school in the mid-2000's and those were actually affordable. Now in my 30's I just bought a X3M to replace my M40i. Can't imagine spending that amount of money for a FWD pseudo-luxury car. The Type-S needs to be 10-15k cheaper to appeal to their target demographic.
Your comment about the Type-S by default, having to be more expensive than the Type-R is 100% accurate as well. It's one of the reasons they killed off the DC5 because it was cannibalizing Civic sales. Probably the same reason Audi will never make a RSQ5(only SQ5) because it would cannibalize Macan GTS sales.

My first choice saw ever will always be a second generation mini clubman. Modify the suspension take it up to 250 and call it a day. I can certainly get two done at 50 but maybe even three for that kind of money because I’m picking them up with 80,000. I bought two last year. I forgot, you should buy a Miata.

The ITS is going to be mass produced in Ohio, unlike the CTR which is produced in Japan. My local Acura dealer said the ITS will not be marked up because there will be a much greater inventory as opposed to the CTR. Makes sense. $52k isn’t cheap, but this is the new reality we live in now. EVERYTHING has become considerably more expensive since Covid hit supply chains and reduced the labor force. The ITS is going to turn a lot more head than a 2 series, G70 , Golf R or Audi S3. Not to mention it’s going to be way more reliable and hold its value better than any of those cars. I bet when you do a cost of ownership analysis, the ITS is going to be less expensive to own than any of those cars.

Man, I'm glad someone else other than just me says this. I've been saying this everywhere else on other UA-cam channels, Instagram, and Facebook.
This is what a post-pandemic high inflation semi-recession economy and society look like right now.
To be fair to Acura, I don't even think they wanted to price the Integra Type S so high, but this is what a workforce labor shortages, supply chain disruptions, and low production of semiconductor chips and overly excessive high demand has strained us with.
There are way worse cars for the price, less reliable, and have lowest years of warranty. I will gladly take the Integra Type S all day every day for what it's worth, whether it'd be a standard model Integra Type S, PMC Edition Integra Type S, some Special Edition Integra Type S, or a Limited Edition Integra Type S. This car will satisfy many people's desires.

I could buy a low milage mint 350Z for just the MSRP of one of these and have another 30k to spend fine tuning the handling and updating the features to be up to snuff with a 2023 model year car.
The auto industry is dying. Its sad to see. I was so excited for the new Z, and it turned out to be a massive letdown. I was similarly excited for the new Integra until it was unveiled.
I should have bought that 33k 400 mile Civic Type R I saw at the Honda dealership during Covid when they were struggling to sell them.
It's fine. I'm happy with my slow little Scion and my 4Runner.

I've always disagreed with everyone saying that the CTR should be AWD, but in this case with that price, I think offering AWD on the intergra would make sense, I mean with Acura offering SH-AWD on almost all their models, Acura buyers have kind of come to expect that as an option at least

Hey David! So, like you I also have a 2013 supercharged mustang 5.0, billet oil pump, pumped up fuel rails, fuel pump, injectors, E85 pushing 727 RWH… then I moved from AZ -> CO. The mustang isn’t a snow car as we well know lol. I had to go with a limited trim 2023 WRX. It’s snow ready AWD and was a no brainer in my particular situation. Thing still cost 42k because I threw the smorgasbord of options at it lol. You know the new 2.4 engine does not put out more HP than the last model, but is more robust and more responsive to tuning… I hope I made the right decision. As for the other 10k (what would I buy for 52k) I’m going to upgrade of course lol.

For $51k, I would get a 2015-2017 Audi S8. Four door limo with the powertrain and drivetrain of the RS6/RS7, aluminium space frame unibody, aluminium pan, doors, hood, trunk, etc.
Adaptive air suspension, adaptive engine mounts, the full nine.
For me, living in an area with winter and salted roads, it's a no brainer. I already own a D3 A8L, my next car would be a D3 S8 with the V10 or a D4 S8 with the 4.0L twin turbo. I know these cars inside out, have the manuals, Ross-Tech diagnostic tools, I'm set.
