    Phenomenal video!!! I have been woodworking and selling furniture for about 7 years now as a hobby ( very busy hobby haha) I’ve always used big box stores to get pine since it’s cheaper and a lot of people like cheaper. Found a local lumber yard sells cabinet grade plywood for almost half the price so I started getting my plywood from them. I have been having a big itch to start messing around with hardwoods and this video has helped tremendously. Thank you!!! The first video of yours I saw was the push stick and I think I will be making that soon and using a nice hardwood. Keep up the amazing videos!!! I’ll be joining the FB group as well. Thanks again.

    Great video, James! I buy all my lumber rough 4/4 or 5/4 from one of two local lumber dealers in my area and they carry a very broad selection. I mill it myself using my planer and jointer. Saves me lots of $$. I used to get lumber from the bog box before I bought my jointer and planer and it's been worth the investment based on how much fine furniture I have built in the past 14 years. Thanks.

    Very informative James. Thanks for the great education on hard woods. I’ve been a wood worker for 58 years and I learned some things. One thing not mentioned was how to allow for wood that has a notable narrow section. The folks I buy my hardwoods from only charge me for the narrowest point on the board but I imagine most city wood dealers aren’t that fair with their customers. What is your experience and view on this?

    Thanks for the great video. My local hardwood dealer is very friendly toward new woodworkers and has helpful signs about how to measure and price the wood. Thanks for putting all this knowledge in one place. One question that wasn't included in this video was to talk about the different "sawn" cuts a board can have. Such as quarter, rift, and plain sawn. Which one to choose and the prices that affect them. I know I have a hard time looking at the grain to find the board that will not be a problem later down the road with it's movement or strength. Thank you again!

    • @KingsFineWoodworking
      @KingsFineWoodworking  6 років тому

      Hi! Thanks. I didn’t talk about the various saw cuts & a few other things because I didn’t want there to be too much all at once. But when we get to specific lessons later I will cover it in detail. Especially when we get to a build.

    • @scottiedoo82
      @scottiedoo82 6 років тому

      Fantastic! Since I am new I often overlook or don't think about the cuts when choosing lumber. The first board that I find that is straight and good quality is what I choose. I look forward to seeing more tips like this! Thanks again!

      but really, these videos are gold! im a norwegian arts and crafts teacher, so when i need to have refreshers on some aspects on the craft, i usually come to your channel. only problem im having is not being able to get good materials. norway is really bad with lumber like you describe it in this video. we have a really small selection of wood types and prices that can run you out of house and home if you are not carefull.
