Unfortunately, it would only be a temporary solution. It would work for a few years, but the sea will win in the end.

Sea levels are not currently rising as there has been no change in the last 20-30 years

Dam the bay. Protect against flooding and generate enough electricity to power the city.

They looked into that way back in the Early/mid 1900s and it would create a stagnate mess. They built a huge bay model to understand how the all the waters intact. A good read or documentary if you're interested

That was my idea. Build a dam under the golden gate ... Drain the bay ~ then pave the whole thing.... Once U are on it ... drive in any direction you please. this will stop all the traffic problems ...

problem is it 1) the bay area is a coming together of two continental plates, the pacific plate on the SF city and peninsula and the north American plate on the east bay, it also part of the ring of fire, building a dam wouldn't be worth it because of the continental shift, and the fact that its a strike slip fault line moving north/south.. Building a damn is going east/west and eventually the damn would crack. Also the water levels in the bay is kind of rough like a cyclone.. it rushes into the bay, and rushes back out. I suggest watching drain the oceans: alcatraz, they do a great job talking about the geographical make up of the bay and wy its difficult. Ironically alcatraz is considered the safest place to be in a huge earthquake @@michaelwells7348

Meanwhile, no actual significant sea level rise has yet occurred…

A quick Google search... "The sea level around San Francisco, California, has risen by 6 inches since 1950. Its speed of rise has accelerated over the last ten years and it's now rising by about 1 inch every 10 years." Personally I think the whole "Climate Change" hysteria is overblown; but actual data can help us make wise decisions.

its not overblown. you have to realize the planet is billions of years old. so anything to us that takes a long time, for the earth is huge! Something thats suppose to rise 6 inches in 50 years and now 1 inch every ten years is a cause for alarm, especially when you realize how long it takes to combat and figure out an alternative to the solution @@jcarp8471

San francisco renown for its iconic water front and bustling downtown. Give me a break you haven't been there lately. Until they get the crime, drug and homeless situation under control they should not waste any money to this pie in the sky boondoggle.
