I fell in love with Dire Straits music when I heard this concert live that very same day, on June 11th, 1988. I find Chris White's solo at 23:47 on Romeo&Juliet outstanding and Sultans of swing was soooo smooth here. Nothing to do with the Alchemy and Live Aid versions. And what can I say about Brothers in arms? Speechless.
Brilliant concert. Just 3 years after Live Aid. Still got some of it on video tape. Dire Straits finishing off a great birthday party for a great man. Whitney Houston did a great set too. RIP.
MK changed my (not only musical) life: I remember it was my football club's birthday party; I had to go, but my fear was that I would miss the radio broadcast of this concert. I slipped away to listen to the concert on the car radio in my father's car. I had discovered Dire Straits two years before and it was really the most important thing in my teenage life. The Dire Straits phenomenon was huge at that time. It was afterwards a long time to wait and hope for a new album that finally came out in 1991. I went to the Paris Bercy concerts in 91 and 92 with my father; he was as stuck as we were by the musical level. More than 30 years later, nothing and nobody has equalled MK.

en el 2019 fui a ver a el Sr Mark Nopfler a El Greek Theatre Los A. el concierto estuvo sensacional...............
Knopfler and EC playing and walking about, casually inspecting cabling or dried chewing gum on the floor or thinking about new wallpaper for the family room...all the while, lightning bolts shoot from their fingers as they make newbies determined to spend more time practicing while oldies break their guitars into firewood.
This song are always good ❤️🎶
Knopfler For ever blue guitar!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !¡!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I like to see the full concert of Mandella's 70th Birthday cause this went on for hours & you don't see shows like that no more.
I remember it being on TV here in the UK. Started at midday i think and went on into the evening. Absolutely epic concert! Nothing like it anymore!
