AmazonBasics Dynamic Vocal Microphone Review / Test

  • Today I review the "AmazonBasics Dynamic Vocal Microphone, Super Cardioid”. This microphone has a very top heavy sound to it which leads to some sibilance and harshness issues. It also did an awful job at plosive rejection. On the other hand it has a nice output at -52dB, it did a fine job at background noise rejection, and a decent job at handling noise rejection.

Lol... Who would pay $70 for an AmazonBasics dynamic when the SM48 is only $40 and Behringer XM8500 is only $20??? Both sound wayyyy better.

@@TykoBrian7 Matter of fact Amazon no longer allows adding any of their products to my cart and they are all being sold by 3rd party sellers and their 20 dollar mic (23 at B&H) is now 45-70. I think Amazon didn't like how inexpensive Behringer products were and they have ceased to order new so as all the stock is depleted the add to cart is removed and only 3rd party sellers are allowed (which jacks the prices up beyond belief).

Good video as always! Could you also use a set of brown keys to test background rejection? Since the blues are pretty loud I'm curious to hear the quieter keys as well. As for review suggestions could you revisit the Behringer 302 mixer with some of the mic options or alternatively do a vs type review between a 302 and maybe a UM2 or other similarly priced option in audio interface? For mics how about some of Monoprice stuff?

I am new to the streaming scene and trying to find a decent microphone for my games and streams. I am limited on space, so trying to keep it simple now with a USB mic and boom arm, and with 3 children background noise is an issue from time to time. With this being said, what would you recommend be the best fit for me? Thanks for all your reviews and videos, you are awesome!

Now that you mention the Q2Us again.. I've bought two for around 50 bucks each back in 2014, but they now cost 90 bucks here. Not really worth it for me, for that price I'd go for a SM58 directly. I thought about getting two Samsom Q7s (or Q7x's) to record 4 mics at a time. I saw your review and you weren't too fond of it; but do you think the Q7 and the Q2U would do well next to each other? For podcasting purposes. Cheers, and thanks a lot for that video! What a high price, lol

Bandrew take a look at the Sterling Audio line. The st155 uses the same flat-response 3-micron capsule as the more expensive st159 making it a killer deal at $200. The st159 with full patterns is a phenomenal all-purpose mic for studio work. And they can usually be found pretty cheap used.

IDK... Maybe my ears are funny but this mic is cleaner than the shure sm48. However I don't know why but I hear everything with this mic. Every Keyboard click to every hand shuffle.
Either way I love your format for the microphone testings no one does it like this even after you've been doing it for what 3 years now? maybe 4 or 5? Must feel good to know you've tried almost every mic you can easily buy on the market at this point.
At this point I'd start retesting Mics based on setups if the Mic pool is starting to thin. Look into vocal effects and the like.

But yeah, for $70 it's definitely overpriced. The Blue Encore 100 sounds way better, and can easily be found for $70 or less. It's not going to have bits and pieces falling off it either, lol.
