I remember I used my paper route (!) money to buy 15 copies of each cover to #1 and 10 copies of each book after that. Don't ask me why. I still have the full sized 3 piece poster set of the second foldout you showed too. If Omega Red comes to the MCU those 10 copies of his first appearance will be able to buy me a brand new Cadillac! Or a copy of the mythical "this year for sure!" Wrightson Frankenstein AE. Haha. This is a great art book though. Scott's inks are phenomenal. Love it. Thanks for all the content Rich!
The issue hit stands in late August 1991, so my guess is he was working on the art spring of 1991? I REALLY need to get this book. Also I agree I am glad that Jim Lee was the one able to get the payday on that magnificent cover. I don't know if others feel the same, but for me that cover and comic hit at exactlyt he right time when I was exactly the right age for it to be burned forever into my memory the same way certain Kirby, Ditko, Wolverton, etc. covers are. Also no worries on Blaster Kid... Crystal Planet is a super cool project as work for hire projects go!
Oh Man, I remember the craze that happened around those issues. My 8th grade class practically bombarded the LCS. This book is definitely on the list to buy.
About time another open that book vid came along! These X-Men 1,2 and 3 issues are my favorite works by Jim Lee and to me the best superhero comics art ever made, the inks by SW are incredible, nothing else came close since or before.
The second, non-cover, image was the X-Men Triptych released in late 1990 and was the proposed team for returning to the Australian Outback where they would be led by Gateway to take 'Plan Omega' to pursue Shadow King's machinations pan-temporally, the other team intended to remain at the mansion where Mister Sinister would evict them and set up the Summers School of Mutants.
I never laughed so hard as when Dolmayan spilt the dip on the the Magneto cover art! My guess for the sale price is 2.7million total for all the covers...I am interested in hearing what everyone's guess would be.
Oh no. I didn't see that! I saw him eating in a video but didn't watch the full thing. Was it a joke? Or did it reallly happen? Lol. I did find it funny that Jim was talking and John was eating in the background it seemed like a weird setup or start to a video about a pretty serious piece of available art! Haha

The Mignola book actually does prove I don't open my books. LOL. Oh the irony. hahahaha
