I’m a new gun owner and I think it’s so important to get all the fundamentals down pat. So yes! Please continue to help us become better and safer gun owners. There are so many who’ve just taken the plunge into this and need good instruction. Always appreciate your clear and useful videos. 💞

Again so happy found u. Just bought shield 9m. Praying can handle recoil. 76yrs old 5ft2in, 134#. Lololol yea... was 110 @ur age many moons ago. Anyway have shot colt 38 snub-nose all my life n can’t any more due to arthritis. All the fun things of growing old. But still here kicking 👏👏👏👏👏🥰 U were inspiration for what my hubby n I thought would be right choice. Getting it on 9/16, can’t wait. Will let ya know how I do. Gonna master ur grip. Makes common sense. My goal is to get as good as you👍👍👍👍👍 not sure hav enough time left to master it but will dye trying girl. Lolololololol 🥰🥰🥰😂😂😂hugs sweetie.
I like that you emphasized practicing correctly. People love the adage, "practice makes perfect," but, really "practice, makes permanent," so you need to start out with good form! Thanks for the beginner tips, I love them, and I just noticed you referred to your gun as "her" which made me smile.
Stav, these 'intro' type videos are GREAT. I've been shooting my whole adult life, but my wife is just getting into shooting, so we watch these together. AND... keep making the 'skills' (aim and draw, etc.) videos with Max... My shooting has improved already with the 'one-hole' drill! (Thank Max for me). See.. an old dog can learn new tricks! Thanks tons.
As far as fundamental skills, even experienced shooters can sometimes get a little bit complacent. So actually covering the fundamentals is a great refresher for all shooters of any age or skill level. Great job keep it happening!
Yes, all these basics are great for my wife and daughter who are just getting started. They are great reminders for me, as well. We love your friendliness and personality. You are really encouraging to beginners! Thank!
I went to my first private lesson yesterday and that's exactly how he taught me to grip. I was decently accurate. He said I seem to be a natural, but of course I feel I need tons of range time. I've been watching your vids for awhile and didn't feel as nervous, but had a little trepidation. Goal is to go a few times a month, if not twice a week.
Great videos! As a Firearms Instructor it's nice seeing this intricate detail from a female that's serious about shooting, EDC and safety. Thank you very much!
71 yr old girlie girl just bought my first gun and this video is super informative compared to the vids I’ve watched by men. So thanks for just the basics! I plan on watching all your videos multiple time before I join a gun club and take one on one training classes from a cop-x-marine friend of the family.
New gun user here. I have watched all of your videos. Used my first gun for the first time tonight. I actually shot in or around the same hole several times. Also, I have taught my husband about guns thanks to you!
That straight line tip! I'm a little lost right now. I shoot my Glock 19 awesome, but my Shield accuracy is 😢 currently. I set my car straight and realized i should be pulling the trigger with a different part of my finger. Gonna try that on the range soon! Thanks for making these instructional videos!
First time gun owner at 54yrs young. There are so many gun instructors on UA-cam, but you’re the only one who makes me comfortable learning how to handle my handgun safely! Thanks!
Awesome! Another great video on fundamentals. I see way too many people with poor grip technique, and then they wonder why they aren’t accurate and can’t control recoil. Great demonstration and explanation without getting all “tacticool” about it.
You have such a common sense approach to yr demonstrations. I really learn a lot.... And I don't even own a pistol.... Yet. Keep up the good work. We all really appreciate it.
My wife was interested in getting a gun in light of everything happening around the country. We looked at at S&W EZ but she really liked the Walther CCP M2 in .380. It is an awesome feeling to have a wife just as excited to go to the range as I am! Thanks to your videos for giving her the confidence that she can do this safely and be good at it with practice! Keep upi the content so she will keep talking to me about what she learns from you! Thanks, Happy Hubby!
I think you can't go over the basics enough. Keep the videos coming. There will always be someone who needs the basics and the rest of us need to be reminded of them
Very good description of a basic handgun grip. Clear, concise and simple. Been shooting a long time and enjoy your videos. Thanks for doing this for the shooting world.
The "teacup" is something we used to teach back in the '80s and '90s. I'm not sure when exactly it went away. We also used to teach "silhouette" grip/stance at that time too. For what you are demonstrating here, we used to call that "push-pull" (push with the strong hand, pull with the support hand, keeping elbows slightly bent.) Not sure if they still call it that. I've heard that grip called "thumbs forward" in recent years. At the six minute mark, the issue you mention is something that distinguishes the difference between single stack pistols and double stack pistols, in addition to other dimensions of the particular pistol. Thanks for bringing a fresh perspective! You are helping to keep things relevant to today's shooter.
I think one of the best things you said was that it's always good to learn new things. I'm an oldtimer and I've been shooting for more decades than I would care to admit. One problem with guys like me is we often think we know all there is to know - or all we need to know - about shooting a pistol. Just realize that none of us knows everything and everyone out there (Everyone!) has something they can share to add to your knowledge. Thank you very much for the excellent videos you produce. You are a credit to the shooting community.
I'm a new semi-auto gun owner and I found you and was so thankful. My semi-auto is nothing like my revolver and the learning curve is tremendous to me. I haven't even loaded it yet because I still trying to get comfortable with racking the slide. I'm finding your videos for newbies awesome. Thanks.
This is an extremely helpful video. You did a wonderful job breaking it all down. The instructor who taught the NRA Basic Pistol Shooting course I attended yesterday highly recommended your channel. I would love videos covering more of the basics. Thank you!
Hi, I am pre-beginner, lol. I am in the thinking stages of becoming a gun owner. Thank you SO much for your beginner videos!. I'll be back to watch more. BTW, I am probably a bit old to be starting this. I'll be 65 next month. Owning a gun and going to a shooting range is something I've wanted to do for a long time. Thanks again!!!
Your left hand grip is the key to stabilizing the gun and preventing (limiting) flinching - left-low for righties, right-low for lefties. The left hand should be the one squeezing the grip, not the right hand. A small experiment for righties (lefties inverse): take the gun into your left hand and use your right hand to stabilize it. Try shooting. You may notice you flinch less. It's because your right hand is probably stronger and squeezing the fingers (and grip) harder. Very nice video, Stav! Learning a lot from your videos! Keep up great work!
Thank you for the fundamental instruction, I really enjoy learning the basics that most people assume you should already know. Every little bit helps, wonderful job!
I love your teaching technique. I served 29 yrs in the Army and fired weapons on many ranges to include held many Preventive Maintenance Inspections (PMI) which also includes handling, aiming and firing techniques. You definitely covered the basic fundamentals of proper hand positioning and the correct what not to do around the trigger and the slide. Everyone who ones or is considering owning a firearm needs to watch this video or go receive training prior to sending their first round down range. Thank and and you will always have my support.
I watched this video this morning and went to the gun range this afternoon. I changed the thumb position on my left hand and it was much better as you showed it. I had better accuracy and it was more comfortable. Thanks for another awesome video!
I am a beginner, almost 65 years old! I started this interest because my sons want me to be safe. I have my CCP. I'm super excited about learning to shoot well without fear. I watch your videos and want to encourage you that your basic fundamental videos are so very helpful! The gun terminology and how to hold a gun has been great for me. I'm trying to figure out the best gun for me. I thought I wanted a Sig Sauer 365X and then wanted your video on S & W shield plus. I went to gun range and tried both and think I like the Shield Plus best. I think it is a little overwhelming to actually make a final choice because I keep learning about other choices.
I always learn some really good things from you and Mac. Thanks for taking the time to go back and explain the gun fit and alignment with the arm. Very enlightening from both you and him. Looking forward to more like this.
I feel like a gun snob reading the comments now as just a couple months ago I was still a complete beginner. I guess you have taught me more than I need to know at this point. Plus all the range time I have put in and it never gets boring. You keep learning and keep getting better and you can never shoot or practice enough I would say.. 💕
Stav, another great video. Yes, keep making content about basic skills; you have so many new subs who are searching you out for advice and knowledge, and that leads to CONFIDENCE. I refer to this grip as the "Thumbs Forward" grip and it is excellent for all levels of shooters.
Thank you so much for all your info! it's so easy to understand. I recently got into firearms. I took a concealed carry class and I'm trying to learn all the time
Congratulations on 30K followers! Some fundamentals videos would be great. No matter how long you've been shooting, it never hurts to review your basics.
Good solid instruction. I watched my sister-in-law shave the top off her left thumb knuckle with her back-up .380 before I could stop her and show her proper grip.
Stav, The technique in this video is phenomenal!! You hit gold when you discovered this! I’m 4’8” 90 lbs. and I can attest it is SO helpful! Thank you for sharing!!
I’m blown away! First off after trying this WOW I can’t wait to shoot like this and see the difference it makes 2nd off, my 9 doesn’t fit me right because it doesn’t line up with my wrist elbow and shoulder! I def couldn’t hit a target with one hand it’s too big for my hands. I can’t even hit a target with two 😳 haha. Can’t wait to go to the range and try diff guns!
Thanks for the great, simple video! Congrats on 30,000! I have been renting a M&P Sheild at the range and now purchased one. Thanks to your videos, I got out shooting again!
Fundamentals are an absolutely critical foundation to build shooting ability and skills. They lead to successful hits on target, which makes shooting that much more enjoyable. Kudos to you for keeping things light-hearted, and easy to understand. Well done!
I took someone shooting once who was taught to shoot by some police officers, and she was using the teacup, too. I was pretty shocked, but fixed that grip immediately. Makes a big difference! Happy shooting. :)
I've never had proper training on handguns, I've watched several of your videos and have learned quite a bit about simple procedures. Thank you for making these videos, I am taking a professional course also after several years of shooting.
As a new gun owner I went to the range for the first time today, and you're right, holding your thumb behind the slide does hurt.... but not that bad lol. Bad enough though that it only took two slide bites to learn not to do it again. Seriously though, thanks for your videos. I've been binging shooting videos for the last couple weeks and have found yours to be the most helpful of them all. Sincerely, thank you.
@@SheEquipsHerself My appreciation and respect are genuine, and you earned every bit of praise in my compliment to you. You provide such a wholesome and uplifting perspective on women carrying concealed that it's encouraging to all of my daughters as well as my wife (me too, but I'm a tough guy and have to pretend like I don't get anything from them😎)
Hi, I'm new to gun ownership. Last week I watched one of your videos and went to the range for the first time. I don't think I would have had enough courage to do that without your video. I was afraid of the recoil but I let the gun surprise me as you and your boyfriend suggested and it went great. Thank you.
I carry a 4” compact S&W M&P 2.0 and I just put the rubberized Talon grips on it and it is awesome!!!!! I had just received an order of Sabre (SAABREY) Red OC Spray when I watched your POM video, so I had to repurchase for everyone so I just keep the Sabre in my console. Thanks for the POM tip, I bought the inert model too so my daughter could practice!!
I recently got into conceal carrying and I am so happy I found your channel. Most of the gun videos on UA-cam has male presenter and I just find I can't relate quickly to. I was hooked after seeing how you conceal your gun in different outfits
Wow, what you said about making a straight line with your arm really confirmed why my Glock 26 makes me so uncomfortable when firing. If hold it with a proper grip my finger rests on the side of the trigger. Just as you showed I have to turn the gun outward, and the recoil feels squirrelly and unstable. THANK YOU! Now it's not just an indescribable uneasiness about MY firearm, and I can go find a CC that I'm confident to carry.
This video is super important! Great Job Stav! I watch too many actors in movies that don't have the proper grip (It's embarrassing when they get it wrong 😂) And Congrats on 30k 🥳
Just came across your videos yesterday. Love them. Still catching up. My niece has expressed an interest in learning to how to shoot. I'm ecstatic, because she's a liberal, though not the negative type, if that makes sense. She's good at everything she does sportswise. I'll direct her to your videos, because you AND your boyfriend are doing a great job. I've told her and she agrees, there's no substitute for a gun when things go "bad". And still it's not a guarantee, but an increased chance not to have your body outlined in chalk. Keep up the great work, your new subscriber.
Hi! New gun owner here. Could you consider a video on safely manipulating all the controls on your gun, including the magazine release, slide lock, hammer, etc? I just got a new Beretta 92X RDO, and the magazine release is SO hard for my right thumb that i have to use my left. Also, i have trouble activating the slide lock for most any gun. I know there has to be a simple trick because for each thing i did it once without trouble. (Angle?? Idk!) Thanks for your videos! They’re fun, informative, AND motivating!
Thank you so much for the vid, especially the end on how to keep the gun straight made the whole difference for my grip…after watching this video I was on target right away, thx again…
I am very grateful for your channel. I never wanted to own a gun. Honestly I’m still a little scared. The best way to fight fear is with knowledge. My state is trying to ban certain guns....now we own several. As an inexperienced gun owner I feel it is important to learn everything I can to use these tools safely and not harm myself or others....preferably ever. However, if it comes down to it I want to be able to protect my family. This channel is a great resource. I especially love your book recommendations. I’ll be doing everything I can to learn and train until I find in person training local. I’ve signed up for 2 classes. Please cover as many basics as you can. I currently know very little. I’ve only fired at a range a few times. Also, you are beautiful and I love your pink nails. Thanks for helping me protect my babies and not hurt myself with a gun. May God Bless you and yours.💜
Native Texan here, let me first say love your channel so informative now let me say I heard you talk about if you hold your gun in properly it will hurt your thumb also I wish to inform your listeners on the smaller 9 mm and especially the 380s if you hold your firearm too high up that slide Will cut D webbing between your thumb and pointer finger every time seen it happen multiple times with new gun owners at the gun Range. In short what I’m saying hand placement on your grip is very important as she is saying in this video. Lastly let me say it is called limp resting a firearm when you don’t hold your gun properly giving your automatic weapon the correct amount of opposing force that is when the slide on your automatic pistol goes back it needs proper counter force which is your grip to properly eject the shell and chamber another one if you don’t have a strong grip on your gun causing the counter acting force it will jam something to think about good luck to your new gun owners and remember vote Second Amendment it is the only thing that will keep you free.
Thank you Stav for the information about the correct way of holding my gun , and yes it is more comfortable! You and your husband have a very nice & Blessed Holiday!
Thank you.lots of videos and info out there but you focus on a lot of the simple things we do wrong that others don’t explain in enough detail. Enjoying your videos.
Yay congratulations on the 30 K subscribers. Get it girl. Good video. Yes grip is important. The fit matters like you said have to be able to line up properly.
Please more how to videos. I love these. I just got my ccw and purchased my first gun. There’s so much to learn. (I had to run into the bedroom and check and make sure my gun fits me right in the mirror. Thank goodness it does. That would have been an expensive mistake!)
Yes, please do more of basic/proper way to handle handgun. We just completed pistol training and planning on pistol 2 training. I just subscribed to your channel. Thank you for sharing you knowledge.
That was a good tutorial. I'm glad to see you're developing a substantial following; judging from what I've seen of your videos, it's well deserved. I, for one, would definitely like to see you do a similar video, but for revolvers. Keep up the good work.
Great vid. I just wanted to suggest that if you need to add grip surface to your firearm and dont like the abrasive texture of talon grips/skateboard tape, there is a company called traction grips that makes a rubberized grip tape that is nice feeling and not a cheese grater feeling for your pistols.
Wish I had watched your video prior to shooting. Being a new shooter and not thinking about the slide, I did exactly what you said not to do,..and somehow put my thumb on the back close to the slide and it hit the end of my thumb leaving me with a bloody painful thumb and split my nail. So kudos for mentioning that!!
Hi there. This was very helpful. Thanks for the info. Straight forward, no BS, no political rhetoric. Perfect!

Learn an Israeli defense pistol grip, its waaay better !
A lot of user induced malfunctions are the result of this opinion/option of pistol gripping
Took a break from dry firing practice to watch this! Congrats on 30k! So happy there are women advocates like yourself sharing knowledge. Thank you!
Awesome! Another great video on fundamentals. I see way too many people with poor grip technique, and then they wonder why they aren’t accurate and can’t control recoil. Great demonstration and explanation without getting all “tacticool” about it.

Bought my first pocket gun today. I'm so glad i found your channel.
Thank you for recording! I picked up my first gun last weekend and there are so many little things I never realized before!
Fundamentals are an absolutely critical foundation to build shooting ability and skills. They lead to successful hits on target, which makes shooting that much more enjoyable. Kudos to you for keeping things light-hearted, and easy to understand. Well done!
Oh gosh I was doing the “tea cup” this is why I watch you 🤭🤦🏼♀️❤️
Lauraly Wade me too. I do a carry class next weekend. Glad I watched this
I took someone shooting once who was taught to shoot by some police officers, and she was using the teacup, too. I was pretty shocked, but fixed that grip immediately. Makes a big difference! Happy shooting. :)
I am a new gun owner. Going for my conceal carry soon. You're videos have been huge in helping me gain some basic concepts. Thank you.
I've never had proper training on handguns, I've watched several of your videos and have learned quite a bit about simple procedures. Thank you for making these videos, I am taking a professional course also after several years of shooting.
Yes, please continue with the fundamentals!
Congratulations on 30,000, great information
Congrats on 30k ! Keep doing what you do , you help us alot.🎉🥳
Thank you. I’m enjoying your channel.
You are so confident and easy going in your presentations that it makes them feel familiar and comfortable. Thank you.
Thank you so much for the kind words, Michael!
Thank you.
Congrats on 30k! Thank you for these videos. You've helped me so much!
You are an awesome teacher, thanks for the basics - wish I lived closer to take your classes
Revolver grip video please!
Love these fundamental videos! So helpful! Thank you!
Great review. Please keep them coming.
Great video! Explanations are on point!
Wow, I never thought of pointing with my thumb. I just tried it and it’s right on target. Great tip!
Love the vids! I use the Bob Vogel grip. Best 5 minutes about pistol grip I’ve ever seen.
Thumbs forward.
Definitely like these basic videos. Thanks, Stav.
Great vid. I just wanted to suggest that if you need to add grip surface to your firearm and dont like the abrasive texture of talon grips/skateboard tape, there is a company called traction grips that makes a rubberized grip tape that is nice feeling and not a cheese grater feeling for your pistols.
Super helpful content! Love how you always address it as your preferred method or preference. Nice to be able to get another perspective.
Love your tips..l.Congrats on your 30k followers ! ♥️God bless you.♥️🇺🇸♥️
This is a very informative video for beginners good job
Wish I had watched your video prior to shooting. Being a new shooter and not thinking about the slide, I did exactly what you said not to do,..and somehow put my thumb on the back close to the slide and it hit the end of my thumb leaving me with a bloody painful thumb and split my nail. So kudos for mentioning that!!
Ouch! Sorry that happened to you. But I bet it won't happen again! It's a painful lesson to learn. Sorry my video didn't get to you sooner!!
Thank you! These fundamental tips are very useful. It helps learning from women 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
