Hi doc. I lost a lot of weight with keto and IF in 7 months, but then (still half way) I plateaued fir a couple months, and since a couple months ago weight is creeping back.
I think it's because my metabolism slowed down, among other things, due to cutting calories too low while doing OMAD (I eat until satisfied but that's not really a lot when fat adapted).
Since this seems to be quite a usual issue, I think it'd be worth for you to dedicate a video to how to speed up metabolism in this case.
For now I stopped IF (still low carb), I restarted weight lifting training, I am eating legumes often (they don't spike my blood sugar significantly), and I am also taking selenium an l-tyrosyne supplements. It seems to be working, at least I'm gaining muscle quite quickly, and my belly seems to have stopped growing.

I don't comment on videos on YT. But I am now to thank you for your channel. This video is beyond excellent. You are a great educator. I have been following your channel for 7 months. After being diagnosed with DM2 and some other adverse health conditions, I decided to make a game changing lifestyle change. Your videos were instrumental in this process. I am 7 months down the road in my lifestyle change--which is mostly my eating/diet habits. No sugar and low carb diet and 90 percent unprocessed foods diet and OMAD for last month. I have lost 75 lbs. A1C in normal range. And I had insulin tested--now in low insulin (insulin sensitive) range. Beat back metabolic syndrome. Big changes are possible if you truly are committed and do the work. Not easy. I used to eat alot of fast food. I haven't had a single bite of fast food for over 7 months now. If you asked me a year ago if it was possible, I would said maybe, but unlikely. Just one persons story. Thank you again. You get the gold medal for your health education work! Cheers.

I have been on keto since 2019 and it was easy enough daily but the carbs were a sticking point for me as I seem to be addicted to man made carb foods (junk food). The pandemic hit when I had reached normal weight. I was so relieved to know I would not be at exceptional risk because of being overweight as I had lost the weight prior to the lockdown. All of 2020 was ok for keto as well but my tip for you is to watch the carbs. It is 2021 today. Carbs are my biggest problem in staying on the keto diet because the call to eat them has not stopped. STAY STRONG !

@@GeminieCricket You may have other problems that might make it seem like carb cravings.
I have been on keto since 2017 (not all of the time, but mostly), but the last 5 months I've had a really hard time keeping it up. Now what I realised is that in my case (you may be different, but it's worth checking) there we three things wrong.
One was that I used carbs to get rid of feelings of boredom and loneliness, so sort of masking the pain and rewarding myself instead. Realising this made me go deeper into myself and bring up those feelings to the surface so I could work through them. After doing that, it became easier to stick to the diet, but I wasn't quite done.
Second thing is that I was missing fiber (that's quite easy to miss on a keto diet), and after adding 50g of chia seeds per day (just make sure to soak them thoroughly before eating/drinking so they won't absorb your body's fluids), it became even easier.
Third and last thing is that I did an analysis of my intestinal bacteria, and that made it clear that I was missing some bifidus and lactobacillus bacteria, which are needed for proper function of the gut.
After fixing these three things, I no longer have any problems sticking to the diet without any carb craving at all.

Hi Dr. Sten - I had C-sections with both my boys! What I remember vividly about my pregnancies back in the 1990s was that all the doctors were advocating consuming copious amounts of orange juice due to its folic acid content which they said was essential to fetus development. They never spoke about the foods I should eat, JUST orange juice! So like a good patient, I cut out all caffeine and replaced it with orange juice drinking 4-5 glasses per day, sometimes more. What I didn't realize (until now), is the amount of sugar I was consuming, and this was passed along to the babies growing inside of me. I feel so betrayed by my doctors. Thanks for reading this.

I also really appreciate that you aren't trying to sell things in your videos like so many others do. I can't watch Thomas DeLauer because of this. I just don't like advertising. That explains much Dr. EKberg! I have recognized most of my life that there are "basically" two types of thinkers... There are "Linear" thinkers, that go from A-B-C-D and all their decisions are processed using that thought model. Then there are "Spatial" thinkers who look at the entire picture in a "3 Dimensional" thought model. "Linear" thinkers lack "Common Sense" naturally as they cannot recognize consequence until they come upon it. Whereas "Spatial" thinkers possess "Common Sense" naturally because they see the "Potential" consequences in advance and avoid them...I have Common Sense, and see that you do too! 😉🤗

I can barely remain upright contemplating the chaos that passes for the consciousness that inhabits these individuals... 🤣

Its hard because our body don't measure calories. What you are eating isn't filling you enough. Just because you track your calories, it will not magically suppress your appetite. Eat high volume of low calorie food that you enjoy. You cannot fight hunger instincts. You feed your body with what fills you up without exceeding your energy balance. The properties of food is not merely calories. Its only one aspect.

    • @Powerman80923
      @Powerman80923 3 роки тому +4

IF is calorie restriction. If you lost 15kg in that short of a timeframe, you were on a pretty decent calorie restriction. Be careful of the rebound. You will have to slowly taper your eating up to the new lower level of daily calories since it's not possible to maintain that kind of restriction for very long, without bad consequences.

@@krioni86sa Yes and yes. IF wasn't the solution for me. Change in diet to quality foods, and not overeating every meal is what helped me, and has allowed me to maintain my new lower weight easily. Eating only once or twice per day would cause me to overeat overall. Lots of people trick themselves into eating much less with IF, and sometimes that results in a severe calorie deficit.

So well explained, thank you. I have been IF now for almost one year (mostly 18/6) together with mostly real foods. For me (age 65), this is now the norm and I find it easy, together with my daily walk, regular yoga, and twice-weekly HIIT. I feel so much better overall. I have also lost 10kg in the year, bringing my BMI down to 25. All this is partly due to the information you have provided in your videos. Thank you again from the UK.

The description of how fat is burned in the first couple minutes of your video was kind of mind blowing. I never thought about it that way.
Anyone who has done Low Fat diets many times like I have knows (at least knows deep down) that a calorie is not a calories. You can calculate exactly what you ate and theoretically what you should lose every single week. But you will never lose the weight you expect to lose. Initially you will lose more and then later you will lose less... and over the months there will be ups and downs. We are clearly not dealing with every calorie exactly the same way.
The big turning point for me from thinking of keto as a crash diet to thinking of it as a lifestyle is understanding carbs and insulin. The next mind blowing thing that influenced me was understanding that we are not obese because we eat too much. We eat too much because we are obese. Obesity is not the disease - it is a symptom (I am no longer obese though because I learned how the body really works )

It’s true. In the 90’s I did the low-fat diet and worked out up to 4 hours a day to lose weight. Measured everything from food to workouts and kept track on Excel spreadsheets. It worked for the short term, but then the weight came back within 2 years. Tried to do it again and again and it never worked a second time. Even at 900 calories a day, I still gained weight. I kept blaming myself back then, but now I know that the diet didn’t address the underlying cause of the extra weight, so the excess fat wasn’t my fault. Two years ago, I started keto and I lost weight eating between 1500 and 2000 calories a day and gentle exercised maybe 30 minutes a day. One year later, the weight is still gone. Calories in / calories out doesn't work for me.

Your explanations are clear, concise, and so, so helpful. A special 'thank you' for helping me to finally start to lose visceral fat. My last weight loss effort got me to the 'right' BMI, but it left me looking emaciated, barely touched the visceral fat readings, and the weight just started going back on. Now, a little over four weeks of IF, light aerobic activity and keto, my skeletal muscle readings are going up - visceral fat readings going down, and I've never felt healthier. Weird thing is, I'm now actually lighter than my original target weight, but bulkier.
