Agreed. Show the small upgrades one at a time. First switch to dual channel, and show us the improvement. Maybe also the conversation with Dell about how they shipped not what you ordered. Then upgrade the CPU cooler and show the performance improvement from that also?

Agreed, I'd get Dell to send you what you ordered. I'd ask about the cpu cooler too but that isn't guaranteed. Do it with dual channel and a non crap cooler to see how the case setup performed.

I've worked in IT for years now and I've never understood why the ventilation on OEM towers is so dreadful. They make some really neat design choices with cable management, board layouts and the like, but then they get stuck in the 1990s with a single crappy rear exhaust fan, a miniscule PSU fan and almost no gaps for air to get in. When the system's an i3 and integrated graphics you can understand, but when there's a high-end gaming or workstation GPU in there - which doesn't even evacuate rearwards - it just becomes baffling.

I'm rocking a 2 year hold prebuild dell that's been mostly cool for me. I've had two minor issues with it. One was a Windows problem, not dell's fault. The other was the Optaine drive failed. It was a catastrophic failure, went into an endless boot cycle. However, the dive isn't really needed, it just boosts the hard drive speed a little. I've had a noticeable, but overall slight hit in performance. Mostly things just take a little longer to load than they should, but I'm ok with that.

The fine print for many pre-built's include some form of clause for 'substitutions'. You get the sum of what you ordered, not the specifics (so 1x16gb instead of 2x8gb = close enough in their world). I'd still take a poke at them for the CPU cooler though to see how they respond, that is on the dark side of dirty for a substitution given the marketing material (where custom/high performance does not equal oem boxed). You could make a case for 'inadequate' given the temps, especially if you can get it hot enough that it down clocks on a sustained load.

My laptop was on its way out, so I decided to get a Dell XPS with an RTX 2060, 10th generation i5, and 500W power supply. I've been gaming regularly on it for a couple months now for at least a few hours a day, and here's my rundown of the system.
    - If you want to game, you MUST replace the CPU cooler and add more fans. After mods, my CPU stays at 45C and my GPU 60C even after a few hours of heavy gaming. I used a Vetroo V5 CPU cooler, which is cheaper than Dell's proprietary cooler / Noctua's equivalent cooler. The difference in performance between the three is negligible.
    - It is difficult to upgrade the RAM on these systems because RAM speed is capped depending on what processor you have. For i5s, the cap is 2666. For i7s, it will not go above 3000. I'd at least like to upgrade my single 16gb stick to two 8gb sticks, but I've heard of people having issues finding compatible RAM for this system.
    - Use zip ties instead of rubber screws to mount your fans.
    - The motherboard and power supply cannot be moved from the case. So if you want to move parts to a new case, you'll have to buy new ones.
    - On my order, the front panel's power button did not extend far enough to actually turn the tower on. I keep the front panel off. It isn't pretty, but ventilation is a lot better with the front panel off anyway.
    - ALL fans must be connected to the sockets on the motherboard that say "CPU FAN" and "FAN SYS". If you try to connect it to the power supply / any other socket, the BIOs will throw up an error. This means you will need fan splitters / extension cords. I have CPU FAN connected to the CPU cooler ( duh ) and top intake fan. FAN SYS is connected to the bottom intake fan and rear exhaust fan.
It's not the BEST, but it plays triple AAA titles at medium-high settings, and I have not run into significant issues since using this as my gaming PC. I also upgraded from the stock 256gb Kioxia NVMe to a 1tb WD Blue.
In total, I spent about $1000 on the tower + improvements. Happened to get the tower for $800 during one of those sales Dell runs about once every month. Pretty good given the current specs and the way the PC gaming market is right now.

I don't like the glass panels or RGB either. I just built a new AMD 3600 cpu machine and used an old generic black case from my dad's computer that didn't run any more. I replaced two 5 1/4 face plates with a front fan mod and it looks great. If I want lights, I will buy a desk lamp. lol

Last time I bought a major company's prebuilt it wouldn't even boot up out of the box. Their cable management was shit so one of the wires got tangled in one of the fans. Luckily I was able to easily diagnose the problem myself because when I called customer service, they were 100% useless.

I'm still rocking my Dell keyboard from my pre-built that I got back in 2004 and was still using the mouse up until a few years ago when the right click stopped working. I'll have to ditch the keyboard once I eventually upgrade from my current PC that I built back in 2011 since I know modern PC's don't have a PS/2 port.

4:00 Dell's standard peripherals are not amazing quality but they are pretty solid. The chiclet keyboard is pretty well liked in offices. Also it's nice that they come with the computer at all so you don't have to bother ordering them if you're getting your first pc.
That said, dell could give you an option to not include them and save ten bucks or something.
Also, I like the understated looks. It's pretty lowkey stylish.
