Was I the only one who saw Daisy and Mrs. Patmore looking at the wedding buffet and making faces at the food? Like they would have done it differently? I had seen this movie a dozen times before I noticed it. Now I notice all the time and laugh!!
Given that Tom never got to celebrate his marriage to Sybil with a big wedding like this, its nice he got the chance to do so with Lucy when they found each other 💞
Daisy: "I've never seen a wedding like it". Didn't she prepare all the food and see all the decorations for both Mary and Edith's weddings to Matthew and Bertie? When half the town turned out to cheer, all of high society was there and it was about twice as big? This one is positively quiet by comparison xD
I think her role as kitchen maid at the time of the earlier family weddings kept her back at the house working in the kitchen. She was in a more elevated position by the time Tom and Lucy married so she could attend.
I could be wrong, but when Daisy said that, I thought she was referring more to the reception than the actual ceremony. Mary and Edith's weddings were more traditional and formal and most likely held in doors. This outdoor reception with freely mingled servants and uppercrust would be different.
If I recall correctly Tom is Catholic. There's a chance that it was Catholic service. Which is very different from the one of the Church of England which they're familiar with. Nowadays it probably would be an ecumenical service honouring both traditions at the same time but I am not sure if that existed back then.
@@katalinelo8011 likelihood is they probably had something like what happened for Rose, (as Atticus was Jewish), a registry office ceremony and then this was a blessing
I'm glad for Tom and his marriage to Lucy, but sometimes I feel bad about Sybil's character still. People remember the 'nice' stuff about Tom and Sybil, but I still remember how Tom was not the nicest guy to Sybil and how she sacrificed a lot for him (sure it's sincere on her part since she did love him but I've always thought Tom didn't deserve Sybil...I know he's got his reason, and background on why he was like that). But yeah, Tom's character did grow on me after Sybil's death...but still sad about Sybil. At least Lucy would get the 'nicer' and more 'polished' version of Tom.

It's a shame that "Master George" Crawley, Mary and Matthew's son, didn't get better scenes in the DA films - I would have liked to have seen some dialogue between him and his grandfather Lord Grantham or his great-grandmother Violet. The boy who plays him here was certainly talented enough for a speaking role, and it is well known that Hugh Bonneville and Maggie Smith can also interact well with children in front of the camera.

Lol he gave up everything about his previous identity. Vacationing in South of France, living in Brompton, having a valet, and sitting in the great hall while the foot men serve..... ofc he would. Why struggle and change the world when you can live in luxury. He's the most hypocrite character.
@@harveyspecter1855 I don't think he's a hypocrite, its just he genuinely loves Sybil's family who accepted him despite his political beliefs. Who loved him despite his political beliefs. They didn't see him as their enemy. He began to realise they weren't pantomime villains parasitically drinking the blood of the poor, but that they were people with their own struggles. He's also intelligent enough to understand that estates like Downton and Bromton are working estates and require good management, since they're a major provider of employment for the area, not to mention food since their farms will be providing meat, milk, crops and eggs to the whole area. (No Tesco in the 20s) Tom straddled two worlds, and he came to see things are not black and white, oppressed vs oppressor. He himself admitted to struggling with the idea of Sybbie inheriting the villa since it was just for fun, and not a working estate. He came face to face with the people he thought were enemies and found it was more nuanced than that. As, indeed, life is. Sitting in a great hall whilst employing people who actually take pride in their work - work for which they've trained and are paid - perhaps today we might find "service" demeaning, but then it was part of the world. Yes, he had luxury, but I imagine he'd make a fair employer too. What was he meant to do? Burn Downton to the ground in protest? (He ran from Ireland for that) yes, he'd signal his virtue whilst destroying more working-class people's lives and incomes than the gentry. I like Tom. I like his evolution as a character. I think he might be the first person to worry about whether or not he was a hypocrite, living the life he lived, but again, life is full of these conundrums and moral questions.
This was a really boring storyline. He should have married the blonde chick that works for Edith. They also should have had Mary marry Charles Blake instead of the race car driver that is afraid to race cars. What about the Car business? It all fell apart with the movies.
The car business is doing fine in the first movie. In this one, it only gets a mention that Henry is off traveling because of it to explain his absence from the movie.

Lol he gave up everything about his previous identity. Vacationing in South of France, living in Brompton, having a valet, and sitting in the great hall while the foot men serve..... ofc he would. Why struggle and change the world when you can live in luxury. He's the most hypocrite character.
@@harveyspecter1855 Perhaps is was for the sake of his daughter 🤷🏻♀️
Sybil is a better woman
She was lovely but so is Lucy
If i get married one day, a bad lady will not invite.
I thought Branson was Catholic. This is not a Catholic wedding.
Lovely cast however to much of a fairytale about it all
This was a really boring storyline. He should have married the blonde chick that works for Edith. They also should have had Mary marry Charles Blake instead of the race car driver that is afraid to race cars. What about the Car business? It all fell apart with the movies.
No,Lucy is the best woman he could ever find. They can't cover every thread of the past series in a film
@@davidknowles3459 Make two films, lol.
The car business is doing fine in the first movie. In this one, it only gets a mention that Henry is off traveling because of it to explain his absence from the movie.
Good Tom finds a new love and happiness in his life, Lucy, who is suddenly taken by a
mysterious illness and dies. Shortly before her funeral, a strange man claiming to be a
doctor, and a professor arrives at Downton Abbey and request - much to the chagrin of
of the Crowley's - that he be allowed to examine the body of Lucy, and informs the Crowley's
that a vampire is at large in Downton Abbey, at which point, he is immediately laid hands
upon and remanded to the nearest sanitarium forthwith.
😂😂😂😂
