I’ll never forget a video I saw on UA-cam about the Vampire dragster where Richard actually revisited the car. He said “It’s funny. I remember getting in this car but I don’t remember getting out of it, so technically I’m still in it.” Even though he said it humorously, it felt like quite a harrowing thing to say about a machine he nearly died in.
It was a nod to his full recognition of the PTSD caused by the incident. The person he remembers as whole did get in, Someone entirely different came out.

I know it is The Grand Tour, but May´s crash of the Mitsubishi Evo was scary as well, since he landed on his side of the car. Terrifying to watch but glad these 3 are OK after all they´ve been through. Hopefully we will get some more from them in years to come.

It was staged. They made it pretty clear when they were asked about it. 80% of what you see is scripted along with jokes etc. 20% is improv and just stuff that happens on road.
I had 5 broken ribs in my back once. Watching James May fall to the ground actually hurts! If anyone wondered why he moved so slowly afterward, it's just that doing anything is very painful and difficult after that.

Remember seeing video that showed the right front tyre before that last run and it was badly torn up. I though they would change it first but was shocked when they set off.
just fyi: hammond had no intention of breaking the land speed record, in fact, he wasn't even allowed to try as you not only had to do the top speed going down the runway, you had to then turn around and do the same speed in the opposite direction and the production team deemed this too "unsafe"
Flintoff didn't crash he simply went off the runway. Hammond's crashed occurred when they were taking tracking shots he wasn't going for any kind of record there were no Guinness world record officials at the runway or any land speed recording equipment.
Guinness isn't the official records keeper for that, it's the FIM or the FIA. Hammond was doing 320 miles per hour when he crashed the dragster too, so I don't think that was just a tracking shot. Then again I don't know if he had any intentions of attempting a record in the first place.
he wrote a book on it, great read, highly recommend. when you suffer that amount of brain trauma you never fully recover, its just the unfortunate fact.
Some constructive criticism: Instead of putting the name of who got injured on the screen, it would be a lot more useful to know which series and episode the injury features in. Everyone watching this likely has seen all of these injuries already so knows who got hurt.
If you watched the video for ~10 seconds longer, you’d see that Jeremy WAS in fact driving a Porsche. They were using footage of the Audi because it appeared in the same episode AND the same scene as the Porsche. Next time, maybe fully watch the clip.

he wrote a whole book about the crash and the after math, I've read it and its actually really good and a fascinating read if you interested in brain trauma like I am, I believe its called "on the edge"

How Hammond is still alive and kicking is extraordinary. Had that crash happened ever so slightly as it did, he's dead.
May was supposed to do but could not, his extra height would have made it a fatal crash
Well, sometimes you can be extremely unlucky and extremely lucky at the same time. In this case, you can have a fatal crash but survive that.
Crashing at 320 mph, or tumbling down a cliff and coming out alive in both those incidents, Hammond sure had luck on his side.
