I love these kinds of videos, looking at how different people record their music in their own way is just so fascinating to me.
I'm shocked that two samples of misalignment actually made a difference. I was fully prepared to think that the AutoAlign was unnecessary. But it really did help. It wasn't bad to begin with, but it took it from good to great.
It’s staggering how much of a difference this made in the guitar tracks with it off vs on with every part recorded. Wound have had to eq a lot more in the upper mids to correct.

Totally agree to the whole "if it sounds good, I don't care about the gear" BUT if you want to achieve the same (or similar) result, you will not able to do it if you don't know with what gear you achieved it in the first place. So, just write down some notes and that's all! Thanks for the series!
I always take photos just in case the band wants to achieve similar results, but I never want to achieve the same tone every time. Every EP/single I ever tracked sounds different and has their own unique qualities. I also don’t have any mix templates for this very reason.
The only time I write detailed notes and take photos is if we need 2 days of recording of a specific instrument and we had to break down the mics.
