I feel like u missed 1 game cause i remember playing a demo from EA where u could play 3 minigames one was spell fighting against other students but im not sure if that game was ever released after the demo
The three first computer games were my entire childhood. I still play them from time to time for nostalgia. However, I still find them fun. I also played Half-Blood Prince, but what I enjoyed about that game was the free roam
Do you have the CDs for those games or did you get them from somewhere? I tried to get mine from EA, but they said they no longer sell it. Used to be my entire childhood too and I just wanna go back to the jelly bean room.
39 minutes of seamless, non-stop Harry Potter games history with no ads. The way you explain things appears to have no bias, only facts. Way to go!! Best of luck in your future.
Dude, Harry Potter 1-3 games were so well crafted for their time. Especially compared to everything afterwards in the main series, you can see how the simplified style of the early games really helped sell the immersive experience. When they started to try and make the characters look like their actors, the games started to look and feel so incredible clunky lol.
they also had that sens of wonder and excitement to them, so many hidden secrets, new areas unlocking with spells, fun lore to buy from fred and george. so damn good.
Eh, they were more like mediocre movie tie ins. Couldve been a lot worse, considering how those usually go, and fun enough as a kid, but not exactly great.
Thanks! I appreciate those videos for what they are, but they definitely left me disappointed when I found them. I wanted more context and history for each game. So…had to make it myself 😄
Hearing the philosophers stones music is instant nostalgia. I remember my dad buying the game for me when I was a kid and how I was reading the booklet in the car on our way home. I spent days in this game and its still one of the most memorable games I've played to date.
I’ve recently replayed Prisoner of Azkaban on the PS2 and it actually kind of holds up, easily my favourite of the series. Being able to free roam the castle was incredible.
It's only a shame that there are so many long loading screens. If the games are someday remastered into a more seamless experience, then I'd love to give them another go.
Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets on PC is the most underrated game in the series, the free-roam exploration and secrets are the best in the series (at least in terms of the PC versions) and the spells learned make the gameplay the most fun. When I think about good memories of Harry Potter games, that's the one that comes to mind
That's kinda my 'happy place' HP game. Loved the spells and loved dueling. Azkaban for PC had so much potential with Buckbeak flying and transfiguration but did little with any of it, Chamber of Secrets was very balanced with how much it offered and fleshed Hogwarts out. Recently got emulated PS version - it's so different from the get-go, feels like a completely new game
I'm telling everyone for yeaaaars on end that they need to release a modern version of Quidditch World Cup like back in the days. That game was SO DAMN GOOD. I think it will do very well!
SAME! I keep thinking about a Career mode where you start out in trials for you House, try and win the house cup, get drafted into a team after school and then try and play for your country and win the world cup. Also online where you play one position on the team. Ultimate Team, Manager Mode. The world is so wide and rich that it would be so easy to make, surely!
There was the unofficial game Broomstick League in early access but it got cancelled and a fan made the experience Seeker VR. Maybe in Hogwarts Legacy there will be some!
Absolutely amazing job with this video! Don't think I have ever seen a HP Game history video that complete and thorough. Even with growing up with a bunch of these games and now speedrunning pretty much the entire series there were some things in this video I had no idea about. Thanks for putting that much work into it.
Wow, thank you, Nixxo! Glad you enjoyed it. It's kind of crazy how the video is 40 minutes and I still feel like there was a lot I didn't get to include 😅
I love the first 3 games for the PC for their collectors aspect. I loved collecting beans and going to Fred ang Georges shop to buy chocolate frog cards!
Oh man, Quidditch World Cup brings back so many memories! I first played it when my cousin brought it over to my grandmother's house while his side of the family stayed there for Christmas. He absolutely flattened me cause I'd never played before. But I eventually got it for myself and played it obsessively cause I was determined to beat him next time. Every day after school, Quidditch. I played everything. All the teams, all the brooms, all the fields. I was ready. The next time I saw my cousin, I asked him to play........ And by that point he refused to, because it had been over a year and he'd gotten bored with it. You can imagine my frustration. But QWC sticks out in my memory as the first game I ever completed 100%. Good times.
I've been a fan of the Harry Potter series since I was a kid, and the games have always had a special place in my heart, especially Philosopher's Stone [PC] and the PS2 versions of Chamber and Prisoner. I've been on a Potter game binge recently, looking into the various versions of the games, and have found at least something to enjoy in all of them. Thanks for the informative video (especially showing off the mobile games, which I didn't know about until just last month), and I look forward and hope not to be disappointed by Hogwarts Legacy. Cheers, thanks for the great video!
It’s also important to note that back then, critics were actually gaming critics so even though they were pretty generous for my liking, the standards where much higher today. A 6-7 were still above average and worthwhile. Today a 7/10 is like a 3-4/10 back then.
true, now most of the 'critics' are paid by the publisher to rate games highly, or are completely inept and should never be in a position of judging video games.
For me the best ones are the first 3 for PC even though I tried other ones. Those are insanely good for that time and the soundtracks are so incredible, Jeremy Soule did an amazing job. I still have those installed on my PC so I can play them when I feel nostalgic.
I cannot thank you enough for this video! I’m a huge HP fan, grew up playing the GBA, PSP, PS2 and PS3 HP video games, you brought me back amazing memories with my siblings playing these, thank you 💗
Such a trip down memory lane! I've played several of these, but I hope Hogwarts Legacy is the game that'll capture the magic of the Harry Potter world.
Excellent video! I have fond memories of the Game Boy Color games, but I didn't play too many after that. Definity looking forward to learning more about Hogwarts Legacy after it's release. Right now I'm in "wait and see mode" on that game.
Thank you, I had been looking for a video comparing different versions of mainline HP games for weeks. For a franchise that has such a huge fandom I hadn't seen a video thi thorough
the Order of the Phoenix on PS2 is still one of the best games I have ever played. roaming freely around the castle, exploring every bit. learning all the portraits passwords, getting an o on all subjects, getting everyone from the DA, finding all talking gargoyles, playing wizards chess, Godstones etc etc, just made for such a cool game. it followed the entire storyline of the film and even added some parts and details from the book. you could choose to play the storyline or shortly pause to explore more parts of the castle/do sidequests or battle someone on the courtyard or play a game of wizard chess/gobstones/exploding snap. Sadly the Half-blood prince could not replicate the experience.
Thank you. :) This video brightened my day and took me back to a time long ago. I especially liked the adaptation of the ratings from the books near the end. Made me smile. Thank you for that.

Chamber of Secrets PS2, Quidditch World Cup, and Prisoner of Azkaban PS2 were my childhood. I know those games like the back of my hand. PoA is a legitimately good game and still fun to play through now
the first 3 + quidditch world cup were so damn good, the first 3 had that sense of wonder to them. the games after that just like the movies just felt like they tried to be to dark/serious
Yeah it was weird how drastically they changed the formula. I think if they had just kept iterating on the formula of the first 3, they could've ended up with something really specially by the later ones.
I am about to cry... I love historical story telling so much more than modern one and I always wondered about earlier hogwarts eras. please let this be a success, I love the old games
Pretty interesting how back then the games were all made for a specific console and these days all consoles have the same game, just sometimes on specific consoles its really shitty to play, because the console is just too weak. I miss the old days...
I would love to see some kind of making of/interview with the developers of KnowWonder and look at some of the source material and earlier versions. I would love to hear where they got their inspiration. Besides that, nice video!
I would LOVE to interview someone from KnowWonder or EA at some point to talk about those early games. Who knows, maybe someone will see this video and reach out. I'd certainly love to do it.
I played most of these growing up! Honestly, HBP had a lot of potential since it had free roam and you could cast spells and make potions -- it was really cool on the Wii. But like you mentioned, you could easily do a speed run in just a few hours. I wish it had more collecting like with the jelly beans in the older games, more characters to play as and perhaps more side quests among other things.
Great video. I have fondest memories of Sorcerer's Stone and Chamber of Secrets on PC. I still think a full-fledged MMORPG could be profitable for the Harry Potter universe. I just worry it's not feasible to green-light a game like that considering the current production cycle of video games.
The PC version of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets was in fact my initial exposure to Harry Potter. I was 5 years old. I was being babysat by some relatives, and I remember watching my older cousin beat the basilisk. It wasn't for several more years that I read the books, but it's funny to reflect on
Wow, I completely forgot I had Lego creator Harry Potter. It's been so long I can barely remember playing it. Just that I imagined a ton of scenarios I wanted to make up
My sister and i love the first 3 games, PC version, our favorite still is Prisoner of Azkaban, i personally love more the Soundtrack. But then Goblet of fire drop and we were "ehh... but why EA why?! " Then with Order of the phoenix and Half-blood prince we made a who finished it first with the most percent of completion till the end of the story, it was fun but the first 3 games were better on our hearts ( we still play the first three from time to time). And the Deadly hallows games, we didnt really care, we get some free demos and saw some reviews and i get a copy for her to play, all because she is a bigger fan of the HP universe, she hate it didnt finish she get bored, really bored. And so we put and X on the game and future games. We are really really doubtfull about Legacy, but oh well we still have the books and the old goldies
you and your sister remind me of me and my brother + sister... I still remember back in the day when our mother gave each of us 15 min to play videogames and well I was the youngest one so they somehow convinced me to give them my 15 mins xD you just gave me some nice memorys. have a nice week!
Played the heck out of HP2 on the GBA. It just felt great, so much stuff to do besides finishing the story. You could max out levels, collect all the cards, find funny dialogue or a few little sidequests... Even finding bugs was fun. I have very fond memories of discovering you could get a sidequest Ginny npc onto the 3rd floor hallway after she's been taken into the chamber of secrets in the main story. Just the fact the developers made it so that after you finish the story, you get to start again with your level, monster info and famous witch/wizard cards made it so much better. Also, it had minigames to play with my siblings, getting hiscores against eachother. Got the Goblet of Fire for the DS later and probably finished it once and tossed it aside.
I remember the philosopher gbc game as i got it and a gba for my birthday. Played it forever on end and had to use a lot of batteries for it. Good to see it again
What I loved about the Order of the Phoenix release the most was that those experience points unlocked exclusive video clips from the actors about making the game. I was so cool!!
My brother had the 2nd, 3rd and 4th on PS2 and remember watching him play in awe. I later got the 3rd and 4th on GBA, 5th on DS, 6th on PC and both LEGO games by TT on Wii (Also got the remastered versions on PS4). I have just bought 6 on Wii and I've ordered 5, 7 part 1 and 7 part 2 on Wii and I'm also eagerly awaiting Hogwarts Legacy for PS5.
Wow what an amazing video! I found this on Reddit and I couldn't be more impressed. You obviously did your research, it's clear and concise, and you've got the perfect voice for this type of video. You have definitely earned a sub. I don't know what type of games/movies your into nor do I know what type of videos you normally make so I'm not 100% sure if this is too far fetched, but a "The Complete History of Star Wars Video Games" would be something to maybe consider and something that me and my friends would definitely watch. Anyways, keep up the great work man. God bless!
Thank you so much for all your time: this is probably the most comprehensively put together video about computer games I've ever seen. The effort you put in to writing the script and selecting scenes of gameplay to match it and so on is phenomenal. You've really gone above and beyond what I would have expected in a video on the subject. Probably tens of hours at the very least you spent on putting this together: much appreciated (I knew a film maker who would typically spend 300 hours on each hour's final film output for broadcast/ distribution so I can only imagine how many hundreds of hours you've spent on your channel). Thanks so much again for all your hard work! I was just dipping in to find out about a few of the later games I never got round to buying and was it worth getting Howarts Legacy and so on but I've come away having learnt so much more than I was expecting. Brilliant stuff! Liked and sub'ed :)
@@RetroRaconteur Aw bless you thank you so much for replying that is very kind of you to say. The very least I can do is write a few lines in a couple of minutes in return for your most extraordinary efforts. You're most welcome! Keep up the excellent work and I'll keep watching and liking 😊😀
So now I’m curious…would you be interested in seeing more “history of” videos of various video game franchises? Or would you be more interested in Harry Potter content?
I loved Harry Potter and the half blood prince on my ps2 when i was a kid…still love it. Cant wait for this new Harry Potter game, got my ps5 so now imma wait
Lovely video, so many memories :) Tbh I cant believe there is so many games I have never even heard of :D Incredibly excited to play Hogwarts Legacy, like crazy.
Oh my god, that lego HP building game is a huge nostalgia hit! I had totally forgotten about that! Thank you for reminding me of this ancient little gem. Spent many hours building out my train track from Kings Cross in the weirdest and wonderful ways. The first few games are all a big hit of childhood sat on the floor astounded at the TV
Chamber of secrets was a dream men. Flying around the castle. Snape walking at night outside(super creepy) everything was amazing, the spiders all around the school, the hidden items...wow.
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban was the best out of all the games. Open World-ish, three main characters, and the older graphics just give a nostalgic vibe.
Even if not released yet, I already appreciate Hogwarts Legacy for making people interested in the older games, especially first 3 movie tie-ins. Before that they were mostly known because of memes made from PS1 graphics. Besides that, videos about them were scarce and I recall only two with over 1 million views: review of PS1 Sorcerer's Stone by a popular youtuber and full walkthrough of Chamber of Secrets for PC. Now I see retrospectives and actual reviews. As for your final words about looking back at older games and wondering about what could have bee... Same. Now when I'm playing those older games I like to imagine how the remakes would look like.
Yes. To me, it’s a series just begging to be remade with the proper time and care between each release. There’s still a huge Potter fan base that would support them.
@@RetroRaconteur I would love the remaste/ remake of first 3 tie-in games with better graphics, less glitches, polished gameplay, and some small quality of life changes Sadly it won't happen since KnowWonder is gone I think and movie tie-ins rarely get recognision years after the release.
My mom sent a picture of the next HP game and immediately I said 120 dollars out the window from gift cards because I had planned to buy another game in September, but I love Harry Potter and I’m going to Universal Studios to see the HP world for the first time right before school!! Super excited!
Really enjoyed this and the love and care you put into making this video. I never played any of the HP games, except for wizards unite, but I'm def going to check out the lego PS3 games and perhaps a few of the others.
It's wild how diferent the first two games were depeding on the platform they were on. I remember a friend talking to me about throwing gnomes at the Weasleys and me having played on PC having no idea what he was talking about. Also, Quiditch World Cup was way better than it had any right to be! EA could learn a thing or twenty from it.
That’s because each platforms were made by completely different game studios making their own things. PC: puzzle platform shooter PS1: Platformer GameBoy: RPG GBA: Adventure puzzle GameCube/PS2/Xbox: Adventure Zelda clone
I have faint memories from when I was a kid playing (what I've learned now to be) Goblet of fire. Felt like an astonishing game with breath taking graphics and gameplay. Fun to finally figure out what game it was, thanks.
I only vaguely remember playing Lego Creator over Halloween and only got as far as the Hogwarts Express lol. I was having so much fun extending and watching the train move that I purposefully avoided reaching Hogwarts lol.
Thanks to everyone who made this video possible! Sources and links to the footage I used are all available in the description.

Pretty interesting how back then the games were all made for a specific console and these days all consoles have the same game, just sometimes on specific consoles its really shitty to play, because the console is just too weak. I miss the old days...
Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets for the GBC is still one of my favorite games of all time.
@@RetroRaconteur that would be dope
I have such fond memories of the PC Sorcerer's Stone & Quidditch games. Loved learning about the other titles I never had a chance to play!
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed the video 😊
I really like watching these kinds of videos before i sleep. Thank you for making it
Glad enjoyed it! 😊
The PC version of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets was in fact my initial exposure to Harry Potter. I was 5 years old.
I was being babysat by some relatives, and I remember watching my older cousin beat the basilisk.
It wasn't for several more years that I read the books, but it's funny to reflect on
Every video keeps getting better and better... keep it up!
Harry potter and chamber of secrets on GBC and the first three pc games were my childhood still play them from time to time.
Thank you for sharing that, Shira! Going by all these comments, there are so many of us who have fond memories from these games 😊
Brilliant video, thanks man
Glad you enjoyed it, Muro!
as a kid I remember being blown away by the physics on harry's cape/uniformz in HP2
Your videos are killer man :)
Appreciate that!
I’m so hyped for hogwarts legacy & the ps2 games bring back so many memories quidditch world cup will always be my favourite
Love the video, very well done 👍🏻
Thanks, Ernesto!
The turn based games were the best. If only the later games had rpg versions we could have had a real winner.
Wow. After a long, stressful day at work, this is exactly what I needed. Thank you
You're so welcome! Glad you enjoyed it! 😊
Man the first 3 PS2 games were my childhood, I miss them so much.
Best video I've seen so far on this topic.
Appreciate that! Took a loooong time to make 😆
Finally, someone made a solid video on these games. Respect!
Awesome, glad you enjoyed it!
Never played the first lego one but man it brings back memories of games i had as a kid like that.
I loved Hart Potter 1+2 on the Playstation, but sometimes I felt really anxious especially in cellar parts. You were all alone. 😅
I remember the philosopher gbc game as i got it and a gba for my birthday. Played it forever on end and had to use a lot of batteries for it. Good to see it again
What a brilliant video, the effort, research and time really paid off.
Thanks, Tommy! Definitely took a while, but I think it was worth it.
Lydia, this comment warms my heart. This video was MADE for people just like you, haha. Thanks so much.
Those first three games had a charm to them that was completely lost after the 4th. They deserve remasters.
Lovely video, so many memories :)
Tbh I cant believe there is so many games I have never even heard of :D
Incredibly excited to play Hogwarts Legacy, like crazy.
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed the video.
CoS on Gamecube is definitely the one I have the most memories from.
I have played every last one of the Harry Potter games.
And still to this day, Quidditch World Cup bangs the hardest IMO.
2:42 ahh the memories, the music OMG!
Soooo good!
My mom sent a picture of the next HP game and immediately I said 120 dollars out the window from gift cards because I had planned to buy another game in September, but I love Harry Potter and I’m going to Universal Studios to see the HP world for the first time right before school!! Super excited!
great job.really enjoyed whole video
Awesome, thank you!
Really enjoyed this and the love and care you put into making this video. I never played any of the HP games, except for wizards unite, but I'm def going to check out the lego PS3 games and perhaps a few of the others.
Thanks so much for the kind words! That really means a lot to hear. Appreciate you sharing 😊
Philosopher's Stone and Chamber of Secrets are my favourite HP games.
10/10 video
Appreciate that!
PC: puzzle platform shooter
PS1: Platformer
GameBoy: RPG
GBA: Adventure puzzle
GameCube/PS2/Xbox: Adventure Zelda clone
There are so many great ideas for Harry Potter video games.
I have faint memories from when I was a kid playing (what I've learned now to be) Goblet of fire. Felt like an astonishing game with breath taking graphics and gameplay. Fun to finally figure out what game it was, thanks.
Nice! Glad you enjoyed the video.
I love everything about this! :)
Thank you!
This video is perfect. Your evaluation is the same that mine.
For me, Harry Potter 1 e 2 for PC are the best!
Thanks for this nostalgic video.
Glad you enjoyed it! 😊
I only vaguely remember playing Lego Creator over Halloween and only got as far as the Hogwarts Express lol. I was having so much fun extending and watching the train move that I purposefully avoided reaching Hogwarts lol.
God, I played these games on the PC, seeing prisoner of azkaban and half blood prince brings back such good memories
Dude this video is so good - saw you posted it on Reddit. So so good, I hope you continue making vids like this!!
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it.
The game boy color(GBC) games and lego harry potter 1-4 & 5-7 are my favorites
