The thing I love about this movie and I said many times. This movie has representations of all the races of Colombia. So I loved it.
There's just 1 native colombian character, and there's no male native lead. You also think they would have added a native kid to the film.
@@AlexAlex-wm7xt The movie was intentionally made to represent ALL REGIONS, all types of Colombians because they took the time to travel through the country and do their research. And no, we dont need a male native character because the movie was not revolving around men, lol given that one was dead and two had no gifts im sure you gathered that much. Idk if you wanted a whole ass Wayuu or Kankuamo tribe in the movie lol but as a Colombian with Native blood, Native grandmothers, family members still in tribes up over in la Sierra Nevada, and not from the region everyone knows from novelas, I felt chills seeing how much all our regions combined so beautifully in this. It really isn't necessary to do the most, to represent well. Sometimes the one character makes all the difference.
@@yourmomsays5295 It's strange that you value diversity but not native inclusion. Like you think other inclusion is more important than native. If other groups were included why not native, the first colombians. you make it sound trivial. If this representation was important for kids like this, why not a native kid? Not a whole tribe, but maybe more than one person. It's strange to care about inclusion and not care about natives. And there's no way this cast is an accurate representation of colombia.
@@AlexAlex-wm7xt r u columbian to say that

I love how Disney represents different skin tones and hair textures within the same family. My nieces and nephews are mixed race and they are all different shades of beautiful, it’s especially amazing to see a darker skinned mixed race child on screen. Well done Disney, excellent attention to detail !!!
Don't forget that this dark-skinned character was written positively and not stereotypical. Plus, his father who is a black Columbian isn't written to be a deadbeat father like how most stereotypical writing of black men are.
Edit: I get it's a stereotype for black fathers due to statistics, but it's just really amazing how they represented the good black father AND husbands who are minorities

Im asian myself and I haven't seen indian characters with East/Southeast features (because I'm north east indian) in Disney but I'm glad that they included latino characters
Yess ! I’m a brownskin mixed girl and I would always see lighter skinned mixed kids be represented in tv shows and cartoons. I even met people that didn’t believe I was mixed because I’m brownskin and look black, which I only hear in America but when I go back to my country everyone can easily tell that I’m mixed and some people even called me Redi meid which mean red girl. I have literally gotten into arguments with people in America that are so ignorant and when I explain to them they still say but you look black so you’re black. First of all the one drop rule doesn’t work in my country and second I’m mixed with 7 ethnicities and I’m a quarter Indian. ( sorry for the rambling ) 😅
Personally, I loved seeing Luisa in the movie. Not all girls are small and delicate. Some of us are tall, built like linebackers and stronger then the guys around us. Growing up, I was taller then most of the guys in my school and if I wanted too, I could have tossed them around the school yard. I also have a similar voice to Luisa, so thank you for giving those girls with Alto voices some love. We're not all Sopranos.
Yes! And she has a beautiful voice too. I loved hearing a female with alto FINALLY!! So awesome!!
yesss and they didn’t make her stereotypically masculine either!!! I was so happy to see it

Ok but the tossing around part was a bit thrown at us. Maybe don’t make your comment like this because you might be giving Kathleen Kennedy ideas for stupid Female Star Wars characters like Rey
While it may not be a big deal it was nice to see that Mirabel wears glasses just like me. I loved character design so much. And I can’t get over how Dolores’ dad looks. He reminds me of one of my uncles. I just loved everything about his design.

The one thing I noticed right away and loved about Encanto was the perfect representation of my Colombian culture. We come in all colors shapes and sizes. It’s true one family ranges from all colors of the spectrum and are all blood related.
I'm Venezuelan, and it Is the same in our country, in my family people range I the looks, from black, to white, and indigenous. I myself have Kinky hair like a black person but also green eyes like a white person. My sister on the other hand looks indigenous. We are black/white/indigenous. And the looks in my family range from all those 3 phenotypes.
I'm not Colombian, but encanto made me really relate, because that the diversity you see in our family, also they portrayed so many things that are relatable to our culture, like multigenerational houses and arepas. Well, colombia and Venezuela are no far off, colombians are our brothers. Every time I meet colombians it is an instant bond, also I'm from a region of Venezuela where the accent sounds a lot like the Costeño accent a lot of colombians think I'm from their country when they first meet me. I have family in colombia too. In these times of crisis in Venezuela, no country has shown kindness like Colombia has, I have considered moving there myself, so it is a country that I hold very dear to my heart. I love Colombia ♥️🇨🇴
Uhh very vaguely but whatever
All of Latin America and Caribbean does but we are just relegated to Panama Dr Belize etc. They forget the Afro Ecuadorians Argentina Chilean Peruvian etc
We are many

Honey encanto represents Diversity in the world and I love encanto representing dark and black people
I absolutely love this movie my daughter is an Afro Latina and seeing her represented was wonderful. Encanto is a wonderful movie you so rarely see dark skin Afro latinas or non white afro latinas presented in various shades and as main characters. So happy the little boy got a moment to feel seen.
"I absolutely love this movie my daughter is an Afro Latina "
There is no such thing as an "afro latino/latina". If that's what you are saying then what you mean is that your daughter is black. Latinos are people of Latin American ancestry/blood. White people and black people are not latinos. This whole thing of saying that everyone is a latino erases actual Latino people who rarely ever get the spotlight in Hollywood. Black people get the most representation of all nonwhite groups in the US.

@@totallytaly1652 Yep
@@gooddude8767 that's a very idiotic way of you saying you want your children to view characters the way many children have already been forced to do due to the fact that there isn't much representation in terms of looks for colored children ANYWAYS. The reasoning for physical representation is to help influence a healthy mindset of your child's self. Physically and mentally. It isn't just enough for the child to always be given cool characters that spread positivity. The child needs to feel that they ALSO can do that too, and when they are constantly shown that that isn't their roles within shows, where they are left out it IS damaging. Infact you had studies to prove this on how lack of diversity and segregation had a negative affect on children's mindset. When kids watch movies or a show they tend to Invision themselves in those roles, because children are the biggest "copy cats" it's how they learn. So ultimately all you're doing is exactly what many children have already went through. Where they're forced to only see one character and their good qualities, but not themselves. And it's so funny you've said this because I have an experience that shows why this doesn't really work. (And I'm sure others do too) I have a black friend, we do everything together practically, We even own this account together. One of the movies she and I loved was Barbie. And perhaps you wouldn't know this, but in the extremely old Barbies there weren't any black characters for a while, but it still had a big impact on us, it's what got her into ballet, but it's also what encouraged her to be self conscious. Infact years later she ended up quitting. And it's sad because as a kid I didn't understand why. And this isn't the first one either, there were also Disney princesses, as well. And I'd always be there to encourage her. Of course when you're young you don't actually get whats the big deal. Why? Because I'm shown practically everywhere. I have blonde hair and blue eyes. So it was easier for me to not be bothered. I was just sad because she was sad😂and then you had cartoons like Winx club, and Bratz, that actually had black females, but they didn't have her freaking personality. Infact they had this stereotypical edge that is mostly shown with black cartoons. (Still done in a nice way in my opinion) But believe it or not, those same characters she couldn't relate to other black girls absolutely could. Physical representation as well as a positive personality within a character is so extremely important for children. Infact studies also shown majority children who are constantly told or shown that they will always be bad end up doing bad things. To deny your child physical representation can be damaging.
The hate in the comments section is real. Smh...we are talking about an animated movie for children, and some people are very upset by the discussion of representation mattering. Children are clean/blank slates and have no appreciation for or understanding of racialized hate. A little child who gets excited by seeing the mirror image of himself through a Disney film character is a cute thing. He is right to be excited and his parents are right for celebrating that excitement with their child. How anyone could look at a story about a cute / happy little boy and seethe with hate and make the story about their grown ass self is beyond sad. I am reminded of what "Maria" (from Sesame Street) recently said in response to the uproar over the first-ever Asian (American) Muppet.
No no it's like these white people(the racist ones) just wanna see their races on screen as if they're the only ones living on earth.

This is wonderful! As a white girl from Sweden I never even thought about Disney characters looking like me, and once I got a bit older I realised that's because they pretty much all did. I didn't even notice because it was always just right there. It was "nothing". They were just characters on a screen. I never had the experience of noticing that they looked like other people but not like me. Everywhere I am seeing people on social media and UA-cam reacting to how they can’t believe how they resemble the characters of this film. I’ve seen reaction videos of girls and guys who resemble Isabela, Mirabel, Louisa, Dolores, Camilo, Felix, and Bruno. They were more than happy to see themselves represented. That’s one of the many beauties of Latin America because how it’s one of the most diverse continents in the world from a long history of mixing of different ethnic groups. I am Hispanic and my sister and I resemble Mirabel, while my younger brother resembles Camilo. Never have we seen an animated film with characters that resemble us.
Frr, I’m half Colombian but I don’t appear as much, but Luisa had my features and my family member even said so. But like, encanto is banging 🤌
It's awesome cause even if you don't see yourself in the characters physical traits, you can see yourself represented on the character struggles... I've seen grown men crying over feeling like Luisa with the pressure of being the older sibling...
Another Mirabel lookalike here! My mother and I watched Encanto together, and she kept looking back at me and saying “Wow, she looks just like you…” And it feels so good to have so many unique latina characters in the spotlight for once!
As a black Brazilian, I love seeing that there’s Afro Latinos being represented. Everyone out of South America think we all look like we have tannish, or bronze skin when that is totally wrong, we can be black,Asian, white, native, etc especially where I am from (Brazil). Though I am black, I would love to also see Asian Latinos being represented!
I’m white, gingery blonde hair, blue eyes, English so I’ve always had characters that look like me and even sound like me. It makes me sad that so many children didn’t and don’t have that still, I love seeing these stories because a lot of people would assume a 2 year old wouldn’t notice, but they do, children need to see and experience diversity and representation from a young age and if that’s hard to get in your community then tv and films are the next best thing. I hope more producers and companies see this and play their role in representing a variety of cultures and colours in all their glory.
Amen

Funny, I’m 47 and a POC and I understand how this little boy feels. Before the movie came out, I saw the dolls Mirabel and Isabella. Actually, the Mirabel doll looks exactly like my Grandma, right down to the outfit, the glasses, hairstyle and yes, even the accordion! The features were something I NEVER saw in a doll. And the Isabella doll, well, she reminded me of myself. The doll is a lot darker than the movie. She is almost my exact skin tone, and her facial features are similar to mine. Even down to the big nose and small lips! I had to buy them and showed them to my husband and adult children . They all agreed, the dolls looked like me and my Grandma! I finally saw the movie and, well the resemblance ended with the dolls. But, I definitely appreciated all of the skin tones and facial features of all of the characters, even all of the villagers! @@gooddude8767 I partially agree with you. Yes, you should look past skin color and enjoy the virtues of a character. But sometimes with movies you dont really have the tiem to do such as its only a VISUAL medium. And the longer you run your movie/video the more money you'll be throwing. Partially why movie tropes exist. And since movies are a visual medium thats mostly what people are looking for, and I dont think thats wrong either. Kids black, asian, mixed, etc need to see characters like them because in American media in the past(and I'll admit this is just the past) have been boiled down to stereotypes or just straight bland/tropey(which is what happens to a lot of "for diversity sake characters" so giving them an actual personality and good morals matter. The fact that these characters have such diverse personality and are Latin or just darker is a nice change. Don't make a character dark or a different race not for diversity do it because you just want to or you think the look more pleasing. I do feel like a bit of it is being seen and "If someone like them can do it then so can I". Relatability too.
Im not sure how others do. Im a D&D DM and Player so when I create a character Im trying to find aspects that fit or that are different that I enjoy. sometimes I'll say the Half-Orc Paladin backstory feels nice as a female character. Sometimes I'll try bending the gender Sometimes I'll try and change the race. So lets make this Vengenful character a Female Elf. Sometimes things just stick. Which is the point of concept art I presume.
@@gooddude8767 As a videographer, I can tell you that it's not just "they look like me = I'm happy". What representation actually means to the viewer is "Stories of people like me are worth telling" and that is a powerful thing. Actually capable of changing societies. That's why when you first give someone a camera and they start taking photos/videos of what's around them for the first time, they feel really valuable and excited.
It's just the beginning, of course. The character should also have interesting traits for it to be memorable or even good. But the mere fact of being someone who matters in the story can lead to more people feeling like their experiences are worth being listened to and worth talking about. Feeling "seen" means that they feel important to our society, and that is definitely a great thing.
Not showing diversity in your creations pretends those stories are not common or dramatic enough to be told, which is not true at all. Now that social media allows showcasing new cultures and perspectives, there is no way Hollywood could stay with the same type of stories. They are adapting, and sometimes they do it right, sometimes they don't. That's just part of the industry. Representation is still a great thing, it's an expansion of possibilities for storytellers.
It's not JUST that it looks like him ...it's that this character portrays the little boy as a precious person and I think that this helps people to see people of color as just people and I think this new movement being applied to all different kinds of people will help us all to enter and new world seeing each other as just one of us....becoming one.
My son is afrolatino and I am so happy he is having representation on television. Marvel is probably going to cast an afrolatino with Miles Morales and it just makes me so happy. Representation matters. Kids need someone that looks like them, speaks their language, has their culture, and eats their foods.
There is no such thing as an "afro latino". If that's what you are saying then what you mean is that your son is black. Latinos are people of Latin American ancestry/blood. White people and black people are not latinos. This whole thing of saying that everyone is a latino erases actual Latino people who rarely ever get the spotlight in Hollywood. Black people get the most representation of all nonwhite groups in the US. Latinos hardly get any. Need proof? Where are the Latino superheroes on TV and movies? Blacks have Black Panther, Black Lightening, Miles Morales, Batwoman (the CW show), Luke Cage, etc... where is the Latino superhero on TV and movies in Hollywood? The whole world is not just white and black people. Latinos exist and yet are constantly ignored and pushed away.
@@DaRunningMan you mean pardo, in my country that's what we call the mixture of black and white ppl
@@DaRunningMan You are so stupid and ignorant. Latino is NOT a race
@@DaRunningMan there are so many things wrong with this comment... first of all, people of multiple heritages should take pride and celebrate all of them, and not pick one just because you said so.
And heck (in native language) "Latino" is not even a word we use to refer to ourselves! "Latino" in portuguese/spanish just means "from Latin". It's more used to speak about things, not people. French, spanish, portuguese languages, those are "latinas".
Even when we do use it, I've only seen it as "latino americans" and it only tells people about the place we came from (basically any country south from the us), DEFINITELY not specifying any race
@@DaRunningMan You know Latin America is a mixture due to colonization. There people mixture of Portuguese, Indigenous, African, Spanish and even Asian too.
The character is an Afro-Latino. Afro-Latinos are descendants of Africans. It doesn't matter that the character is Columbian. The point is this character looks closer to this little boy than other characters of white descent that Disney has shoved down everyone's throat for decades. Stop hating on little black and brown kids finally getting their chance to feel apart of the Disney magic that has been whitewashed for the entirety of our lifetimes. Seeing positive images of people that look like you in mainstream media makes a huge difference in someone's life and on their self-esteem. Stop being bitter Karens and Kevins and throwing in some "all children matter" BS because your fragile privilege is being challenged.
They are either missing the point due to their own biases, just out right refuse to acknowledge the facts or have a limited view or capacity to see the big picture (left brain total users). 🤦 They make my head hurt, just irritating but hey thats America for you.
The ones with limited understanding has the most to say and say it quickly without any thought.

It brings so much joy for a child to see someone who looks like them on the screen in a positive light. It can build positive self esteem and self confidence and foster imagination and positive development of identity.
I remember when I first watched Encanto
I was at the movies with my 9-year-old sister, she just found out she needs to wear glasses, and was hating her looks (she already kinda hated her curly hair because of some mean kids at school) and at the first time she saw Mirabel she looked at me and said “Luisa, look, shes like me!”
that's amazing. and ur name's luisa too just like mirabel's older sister!
And this is why representation is so important. Seeing people that look like them represented in a positive light in media is so important for young people.
What a cuteeee little boy!!!!! This warmed my heart!!!!
What I like about the movie is that it's not cliché, they didn't have to look all perfect and skinny, Mirabel wears glasses and it's a story about family, not some random prince.
fr
I'm a nanny for a half Columbian family, and the mom is so happy her now toddler daughter will get to grow up with a movie representing her culture.
As for me, I'm happy the main girl wears glasses. And MAN does she rock it!
Colombian
The resemblance between the character and their toddler is spot on. They are a beautiful family, too. The Disney artist(s) who created the various brown skin tones and hair textures of the characters did a marvelous job!

I love the way Kenzo corrected the mispronouncing of his mom’s name at the beginning of the interview. So cute.
Encanto is so under-rated. I really loved this movie, there were people that looked like me. The story was beautiful.

Yesss! I’m a Pacific Islander and when Moana came out, my heart would swell anytime someone told me i looked like her haha! It made me appreciate my long curly thick hair, and made me feel seen! I’m so glad little boys and girls can feel this, my heart ❤️😭 also when my younger sister who has long straight hair and beautiful brown skin saw Isabela, she was like omg that looks like me and we just got so excited, it’s a wonderful feeling to see someone who looks like you in a movie 🥰
Latin and Southern America has so many colors. It's all representation.
Yes, that's what I loved about the movie! They accurately represented the diverse population of Colombia, unlike Coco who only seemed to feature brown Mexicans. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but I know that not all Mexicans look like that. However, Encanto did a great job incorporating all sorts of skin colors and racial features to their characters. If you go to any city in Colombia you will see we are all different
Let’s not forget African Slaves went to South America and that’s why the dark skin tones

Kids need to see the hero of the story look like them. This is where representation matters.
Adding a kid that looks like a common colombian might have been a good idea for that.
@@AlexAlex-wm7xt Afro- latino are as "common" to the South American continent as all other Latinos.
@@barcelonachair6487 Most colombian and south americans are of indigenous ancestry. Eitherway it would have been a good idea to add one.
@@AlexAlex-wm7xt Actually Brazil and Venezuela have the largest population of Black people(or Afro-Latinos) for countries outside of Africa, and not to mention there wasn’t just slavery in North America(majority of the Americas did).
Not to mention I am literally black(my moms Afro-Latina) and have family(know others) from Central America/Columbia who look like Antonio, his siblings and dad.
Also the family is indigenous aside from a couple of people, and this honestly looks like it takes place post-slavery and post-colonization… so there’ll be a bit of a mixed crowd…
If there were a live-action Encanto, this boy would be the perfect Antonio.
Even at my age I get emotional seeing myself represented. Being a latina morenita, seeing someone look like me being one of the main characters is amazing ❤️
This little gentleman’s reaction is so pure.. It really shows the beauty and impact of representation in the media. And he’s right, Antonio looks like an animated copy of him!
I'm melting here..so cute..well I'm 30 n love cartoons so..For a child to respond like this it tells me that even from a tender age humans understand the importance of identity..very touching...Encanto was lovely
He's *a -DORABLE* ! 🤗💖
He truly is...Love his name as well🥰😍
his answer that he would rather had a dog makes him more relatable to Antonio's love for animals, ... God bless him.
This kid is so adorable 😭
im crying rn this is so cute and beautiful. it’s so great to see people who look like me and other people of color, mirabel is my doppelgänger lol
My 2 year old looks like young Mirabel and it made me want to cry as well, so adorable!
“do you wanna go on a trip to disney world?”
“i wanna get down”
lol in true toddler fashion
i had the same reaction with moana. i was 12 when it came out and had never seen someone look like me in any of my favourite movies, but then there i was, a polynesian disney princess. modern day disney is doing great things 🙌
thats so sweet
I‘m not black, but I wear glasses. I felt always like I couldn’t be a princes and all because nobody was wearing glasses. Seeing the main character wearing glasses means the world to me. It really touched my heart. It’s great to finally get that kind of a representation as well
Cuteness overload 😍
Kenzo is absolutely “ADORABLE”
🥰🤗🥰❤️
as a hispanic person, i saw alot of myself and my family in these characters. im older now, but i wish i had something like this when i was younger
My son had the same reaction, he is mix im hispanic and dad is black and his curls and everything are just like his. It was pretty amazing! Even though the movie was kind of sad at the same time for me, knowing how great grandmas or grandmas act just like that, no matter how i tried to make her proud
I’m a mixed young adult and it was what I felt while watching Nina in In The Heights and Rachel Zegler in West Side Story. What a beautiful year 2021 was for cinema. Representation is so important, I’m so happy this little boy saw himself in this movie. The next generation is going to be saved when it comes to entertainment. I really hope West Side Story is going to be streaming soon on Disney +. This movie was everything I wanted to see in a movie musical for years.
Kudos to Steve, the dad, for having an interest in his son and taking time for him. That's a real man.
Maaaannnnn I was in my 20s when Princess an the Frog came out and seeing that beautiful black princess made me feel like a giddy 5 year old. Representation ABSOLUTELY matters. To this day I watch Princess and the Frog with a twinkle in my eyes!!!
This is one of the sweetest things I've seen in my life.
I love all the different varieties of skin colours, body shapes etc, in movies like Moana everyone basically has the literal same skin tone making a lot of the side and background character blend together meanwhile in Encanto everyone looks unique and shows off their personality through their designs
it is because Colombia has every skin colour, we are very mixed!
That’s bc Latin Americans are of mixed race. Polynesians(especially in the era Moana was set in) kept to their original race because the colonizers hadn’t come and ruined everything yet, so tf are you going on about?
Polynesia is less racially diverse than Colombia, so it makes sense for the characters in Moana to look more similar to each other than the characters in Encanto
Ofc they woul all look the same lmao
What a beautiful family! The boy is adorable.
I’ve been seeing this so much lately from children to adults finding their lookalikes while watching the movie. I think it’s important that Disney has made these characters more relatable in terms of looks.
Representation matters, specially when it’s done the right way, with great ORIGINAL characters and a good story and songs
All the kids who got to see a mixed family like theirs just makes me smile
I can't wait for each and every country to have it's own Disney film. Not just "Generally Asian Setting" or "Generally European Setting" etc. But actually individualizing races, to not put us into vague boxes to the American audiences and next generations.
I liked seeing Isabella the most. She actually looks like people I’ve seen and it’s wonderful
The team that made Encanto must be insanely proud of themselves 🥰
and mum is basking in her melanin glory
isn't she!
Breath taking
She’s beautiful
I was the same way when I was small watching Little Bill
It is adorable when we see young children being fascinated with likeness and being enchanted by the world around them. Regardless of ethnic group, color, creed.
Children are a beautiful reminder to the world how we should view the world. Children do not see color and differences with prejudice and hatred until it is taught.
I. Absolutely. Loved. This. Movie. Antonio's gift was my favorite part too. So cute and Congratulations to the little guy!
Beautiful black family
For real. Need to see more of that.

Its the fact that it looks like him and what makes this video more better is his reaction when he saw his self in encanto its just so cute😊!
This is why I truly adore this movie,, I have glasses and the same curly hair as Mirabel, so it was really comforting to see her design. She also kind of reminds me of myself in general :)
making movies more diverse in race and ethnicity does have an impact. for example, I felt a strong connection to the movie moana because the character looks just like me she is brown with long dark wavy/curly hair just like me. the movie encanto also made me feel a strong connection because I am also Hispanic and characters look me and by characters I mean Isabella and mirabel I look like a mixture of the two 🤔 anyways its very nice to see diversity in shows or movies 😊
@@gooddude8767 yes virtue does matter I am just saying it's great to see diversity of race and ethnicity just like if Disney decided to make a animated movie based of puerto rico I'd feel so happy because that's my home or if there was a puerto rican character. and I am not saying they should add more black characters you say it like if I am black 😅 I speak of diversity so everyone feels included and again yes virtue matters, like if a character looks like me but has bad attitude in the movie I'm not gonna really feel anything for the character 😅 I'm not the best explainer but hope you understand what I am trying to say
The comments are beautiful the segment and the movie is beautiful I wish news could have more beautiful moments like this??? Love IT!!
both of them are literally adorable
It's nice seeing someone who look like you in a movie glad he could see someone like him
You said it better. I was trying to say how it's cool to see someone who looks like yourself in a movie. It's kinda like seeing yourself in the movie? I'm not good with words but when I experience media it's fun to picture myself in that story sometimes. But the virtues you said I think are much more important. At the end of the day I'm just glad the kid enjoyed the movie. I hope my words come across correctly I'm not good with how I word what I'm trying to convey. Your comment is a much better put together thought than I can write down. I agree with you.
I love this movie because of the representation of different races and different Hispanic cultures. Colombia is so beautiful 🥰, and that kid is adorable!
one of the cutest pictures ive seen in a while,i got emotional as well by seeing it it's just beyond adorable
Seeing Luisa with broad shoulders literally made me smile the entire movie cuz like….oh my god 😭🤌🏾
I'm so glad I saw this video. As a white person, I knew that representation is important, but I couldn't resonate on an emotional level to why it is. This video brought back memories of when I saw girls on screen with my type of hair color/cut and felt happy as a child watching cartoons. Now I've got an even better understanding, such a cool thing.
Yeah! I’m a brown latina, and there’s no feeling like seeing girls with your features be portrayed as beautiful.
For me, it’s the little things, like thick eyebrows and the hoop earrings that often come with my culture. You don’t often see that outside of stereotypes and caricatures.
i agree! personally I’ve never had a Disney character look like me in anyway, the closest I got was rapunzel with her short brown hair (my hair is much shorter and is wavy) but anyways representation is so important and i don’t get why some peeps don’t like it
@@Huh9631 same, my hair is short and wavy, white with brown eyes and when I was rapunzel as a kid I was really happy even if I didn't look exactly like her
I love this 💯. Representation is key to bring up a coexisting generation ♥️
The best most diverse Disney movie thus far.
Representation does matter, I'm 25 and whenever I see South asians in movies or shows, idk, it just feels nice, I remember first time it was Harry potter goblet of fire, with the Patel twins, i mean they weren't the main characters but they weren't in the background either and it was nice to see them in traditional lehngas at the ball
Those girls were absolutely gorgeous! As a kid when that movie came out, I remember really admiring their garb. Very cool stuff.
As a child I was always desperate to see my hair type represented on TV and film. I've had to deal with a lot of internalized shame about not having thin, straight hair that I can get wet without fear of it puffing up even more. Even though I'm 23, seeing Antonio's adorable sister Dolores in the film have a hairstyle I wear very often (now that I've finally found comfort in my hair type) makes me so happy and helps me feel beautiful and seen, so I can only imagine the positive impact such representation can have on the developing self-esteems of younger audiences.
Mom: Do you want to go to Disney World :D

My daughter loves Encanto too. She's half black/half white and she looks like Mirabel. Her birthday is coming up and she wants a Mirabel cake. 😄
