    More about this upgrade
    The original pleated blinds and window valances have been removed and it’s time to install some new ones. We decided on day/night roller shades from RecPro.com for the new window coverings, but needed valances to compliment the new look.
    This is the third video in this remodel series. For a full list of remodel videos, click on this playlist. • CLASS C RV RENOVATION ...
    The materials needed for the valances:
    (1) Fabric
    (2) Batting material to give the valance a little “poof”
    (3) 4x8 ft sheet of ½” plywood
    I cut the plywood large enough to cover the roller shade hardware adding a little extra (½”) to the inside dimension. Then I put the partial box valance together with wood and nails.
    To finish the valance, I wrapped the outer wood valance with batting (except for the top) and stapled the edges down. I then wrapped it with the fabric, folding in the edges and stapled it down. For a finishing touch I used spray adhesive to secure the ends of the fabric inside and on the top to prevent fraying.
    CUSTOMIZING THE SHADES: To keep the bottom shade from moving while driving, I installed drilled a small hole in the bottom shade crossbar and inserted a small magnet. I added a second magnet in the wall just below the window frame. The magnets were glued in with Gorilla glue. This mod worked very well.

    Tito - Our Cedar Creek 38FLX has those same shades. They are fantastic. Adjusting them can however take some getting used to. I love, love your videos! You seem to always do things the "right way". Your videos are always very informative and helpful with my own research and ideas. By the way, I really like your shop and choice of tools. Your approach to how you complete a project reminds me of myself. I wish I had a friend like you as a neighbor. I would be bouncing ideas from you all the time. My wife and I purchased our a 2017 Cedar Creek Fall of 2017 and we love it. Unfortunately, we only get to use it for about three weeks out of the year. I'm Systems Engineer that works from home. So I hope to spend more time RVing with my wife. Thanks so much for all your videos. Love you guys!

    Very nice job! I really liked that you made the valance only as big as was needed to cover the shades. It gives the feeling of a lot more space when the valance doesn't go all the way to the bottom of the windows. I have also found the spray contact cement works great to put the batting on. This allows you to cut away any excess batting, but have it stay securely in place when attaching the fabric. Looking forward to seeing how the new recliners work out!

    • @RVwithTito
      @RVwithTito  5 років тому

      Thanks! I'll try that next time. I'm questioning whether or not to wrap the batting around the bottom edge. Any thoughts?

    • @sykesc2
      @sykesc2 5 років тому

      @@RVwithTito I would wrap it for a softer look. If you want a sharp edge, then you can just stop it at the edge (Be sure it is evenly cut if you don't wrap it or your fabric will look lumpy at the edge.). If you don't wrap it t be careful not to bump your head on it. :D

    You'll need some 3" long felt on both ends on the backside of the shade bottoms (both shades) if you don't , they'll rattle like hell against each other and the window frame going down the road. The darn $6,000 MCD shades we had installed, rattle like hell. MT-- we'll take care of it since you didn't.It's bad enough with gps and tire pressure monitor going off, then add the clanking of the shades, it's not an enjoyable drive.

    Hey Brian. Love the videos as a newbie remodel enthusiast. One question that always haunts me. When you are screwing in things, like valances, into the wall, how do you know where to go or how far? I'm always worried about puncturing my coach or missing a stud. Are there studs?!

    • @RVwithTito
      @RVwithTito  4 роки тому

      The interior walls have small wood studs, maybe 1x1 or so. The exterior wall studs tend to be metal with insllation in between. Most plumbing and wiring runs through the interior walls. Anoter tip on interior walls with 1/8" panels is to use pop rivetts. They hold pretty well. If possibe, try to figure out where the plumbing or wiring runs are before poking too many holes. Exterior walls are mostly insullation and fiberglass. So it's ok to screw into those. Mine are about 1" thick. When screwing into an exterior wall from the inside, try and find the metal stud (I just knock around and listen) then use a self drilling screw that's long enough to hold, but not long enough to reach the outside panel.
