Thanks for the explanation, I use an external clock with my Apogee Rosetta 800, and I believe it noticeably improves the low-end sound quality. While some people argue that external clocks don't make a significant difference, I've found Antelope to be a reliable brand for high-quality clocking solutions.
Cog is another name for a gear. Computers do have clocks, often many different clocks, usually syncronized to a master clock source and since modern digitial audio tech is computer based their clocks are often syncronized too. When you have syncronized clocks in the digital domain (as opposed to analog audio) the data stream is passed completely unmodified - as if you were copyinig a file. Digital audio links will naturally syncronize so long as the bit-rate and bit-depth are the same on both devices. When the bit-rates differ it's like your fingers analogy u got four fingers trying to fit into the (time) space of 3 fingers or vise versa so you gotta use some maths to make it work and the result is only an mathmatical approximation of the source - think of it like recoding a movie by pointing a camera at the screen ur gonna get all kinds of artifacts and noise that most people wont really care about or notice. When the bit-depths are different it's like ur either losing or artifically gaining detail. The TLDR is that unsyncronized clock and bitdepth settings will result in changes (distortions) to the data as the stream passes between devices. (you had it right, i'm just rly high and rambling ;p)
@@apextraxx2903 black lion specializes in clocks. I have had RME 400 and 800 I always clocked them with Big Ben. If I had to guess I would use the Black lion base on the experience with clocking. The most important thing is that one is slave and one is the master. If you plan on growing invest in a dedicated clock. I would look at the specs on both units. Thanks for the question
Thanks

I need you on my page. So pls subscribe and like. You can help education my followers also. Cool info.
My car, my bedroom, even my phone all have a clock. But there's still so little time

Got a question, I have the black lion audio exp converter and the RME UCX2, Which of the two should I use for clocking?
