    Another underrated shortcut for macOS is using CMD+H to hide windows instead of minimizing them using the yellow dot. Apart from being quicker and not needing the mouse at all to achieve the same effect, hidden windows can be brought up again by CMD+tabbing, while it doesn’t happen when you minimize them in the dock!

      I added ⌘ + ~ as an shortcut to minimize windows, that way I still have the cool animation 😂 it's close to the tab key so I find it very practical

    Great video, Matt! I am using Mac for over 18 years and still learned a couple of new things. I like the idea of using Low Power mode even when on power adapter. However, I noticed that it also sometimes disables the automatic sync in Photos. I had to switch back to defaults because of it.

    Nice video!
    Coteditor is a simple code editor that I would recommend instead of VS Code for non-devs.
    Raycast contains a built-in clipboard manager (and it's the best I have ever used), it deserved a mention :P

    Excellent. By far the best, most practical Mac tips video I have found. Thank you.

    Great video. I’ve been using macs for a long time, so I’ve learnt a lot of these, but there were quite a few that I didn’t know about. Really helpful, thanks!

    Ah, I did not know about Command + Option + I on files. Always waited until there are 30+ files in the folder in order to start messing with their information. Thank you!

    You can make the key repeat rate and the delay before repeat faster via terminal: “defaults write NSGlobalDomain KeyRepeat -int 2” (I like 2, can go down to 1) and “defaults write NSGlobalDomain InitialKeyRepeat -int 15”. I love the shorter delay before repeat and find 15 optimal. You have to reboot for it to take effect.

    Just wanna mention that RayCast has a built in clipboard manager.

    That is not what background tasks does. They run small pieces of the application in the background to keep up to date. The list at the is the things set to open at startup and run as the full application. Background tasks run at launch with only certain pieces (likely checking for updates or changes to metadata - depending on the app).

    If you have lots of finder windows open, you can hold Option and click the close button on any window to close all windows.

    Unrelated to the content, but how do you zoom into specific areas of your screen recordings? What software are you using for that focus zoom effect?

      There are so many things you can do with Raycast, it's insane. From time to time, I just to into their extensions "store", sort by newest, and take a look at everything new from the last time I checked. I keep discovering cool stuff!

    Raycast has its own clipboard manager which defies the need to use a separate one, not to even mention paid apps.

      @@NumericCitizen It does, but you are limited to 1 week clipboard history if you're not on the Pro version. For most people this is enough, but for me I like having at least 1+ month history because I often go back to check old snippets of code I wrote a few weeks ago.

      I also replace the MacOS emoji picker with Raycast's which I prefer.

    • @bzikofski
      @bzikofski 9 місяців тому

      @@swiftrealm There is no 1-week limit, but rather 256 entries. Also, for code snippets, you can use Snippets feature built into Raycast (with no limitation on the free plan). So... free version is enough.

    Emoji Picker. You say "Command-Option-Spacebar" to bring up the Emoji Picker, but the screen prompt shows Control-Command-Spacebar, which is the correct key combination. At least it is for me.

    13:54 what if you previously incorrectly uninstalled an application. Can you get Ray cast to go back and do the cleanup work that needs to be done?

    • @FBracht
      @FBracht 9 місяців тому

      I don't think so. For that, I would recommend CleanMyMac, which you can get as part of a SetApp subscription. (By itself as well, but then I'd say it's too expensive.)
      There are certainly other apps for this, but it's what I use.

    Coming from Windows, I leave my M2 MacBook Air on its uncluttered, unbloated settings. MacOS is a complete package that nearly covers all of the basic computing needs of any individual. It's a better computer than when loaded with external apps that will burden and slow down the device.

    Help! How do I stop the syncing of the text replacements between Mac and iPhone?
    This is driving me absolutely nuts
    I use Ray cast for my text replacement on the Mac.

    • @FBracht
      @FBracht 9 місяців тому

      I don't think you can actually stop the syncing. Can't you just delete the Text Replacements that are giving you trouble, or Esc them out when they appear on your Mac?

    All these keyboard shortcuts... they work like there are no mices... I know, that they're comfortable for anyone, who has not tried Windows or even Gnome, but in case, when someone already works with a non-mac OS they are not too easy to remember... I think, that instead of providing its own way of how computer works, Apple should rather work on making their devices more compatible with an external world...

      The thing is, Mac’s way of doing things came first. Windows came after the Apple Lisa and the Macintosh and did its own way of doing things. If Apple tried to do the Windows way of doing things, it’d leave long time Mac users-who are, obviously, the Mac’s core audience-unfamiliar with how to use their products. Now, obviously there are some areas they could take queues, but they need to keep the appeal for their customers before trying to get new ones
